CER Hospital Hospital
Dr. Kuri is very personable, knowledgable and one of the most expereinced lap band surgeons operating today. He explained the band and the operation thouroughly, and answered all of my questions. I felt very comfortable and confident in his abilities. The operation went well, though a little longer than usual becuase of a hiatal hernia repair that needed to be made.rnrnI appreciated the two days in the hospital, as well as two days in a nearby hotel that was all part of Dr. Kuri's package. It made sure that recoevery went well, and also had the benefit of soem forced relaxation.
Dr. Kuri did my Lap Band in 2004 and it was the best experience for me. He completely explained the procedure and was willing to answer an questions. His bedside manner was impecable. I would recommend him at wholeheartedly. I left Mexico after three days and had no complications so I have no idea of what his follow-up care is like.
I cannot recommend Dr. Kuri. I had my lapband surgery there about 6 months ago. After several weeks I still was in a lot of pain. I called Dr. Kuri's office. The receptionist told me it was "just gas". After a month, I called again and asked to make an appointment to see Dr. Kuri. I was told the only way to see a doctor was to get into the fill line. So, I dragged myself to TJ and was told my problem was "nothing" by the doctor on duty. I never got to speak with or see Dr. Kuri. Afterward, I went upstairs to his office to leave a message for him to please call me, but I never received a call from him.
A few weeks ago I needed a fill and went to Dr. Kuri's facility after pricing fills close to where I live.
When I went in, I said I was nervous and could the doctor on duty (not Dr. Kuri) tell me what he was doing as he went along? To my surprise, he told me I had to call the 800 number if I had any questions. I thought he misunderstood, but after a few more rude remarks by him, I was too upset to have the fill. There was no one else in the waiting room after me It then took me another 45 minutes of arguing to get my money back.
I again went upstairs and reported this to Jomi, who is familiar with both situations, and then left a message with the receptionist for Dr. Kuri to call me. That was a few months ago. I am still waiting for his callback.
There is no excuse for this. I wish I went somewhere else to have my surgery. The surgery went fine, but the aftercare and follow-up support is seriously lacking. I'm sure some people had a positive experience, but for me it wasn't very good.
If you are considering lapband surgery, talk to current patients about their experiences AFTER the surgery. At Dr. Kuri's office there are "facilitators" who are really sales people who are also supposed to help after the surgery. I spoke with several, and found them to be quite pushy before the surgery. One spoke Spanish only, which was impossible.
Something is just not quite right there, and once there is a problem, they don't either know how to solve it, or don't want to solve a problem and become defensive and adversarial in the process.
This is only my opinion and experience. I wish someone wrote something like this when I was researching clinics in Mexico. I hope this information helps someone who is on the fence about going to Dr. Kuri's clinic.
Dr. is the most caring and the sweetest Doctor that I have ever seen. I recommend him very highly.
Good bedside manners, all risks and possible comlications were discussed before the surgery by phone . Surgeon is competent and well trained.rnAftercare program was well structured.rnSometimes i wish i've learned how to speak spanish, becuse there were some difficulties to communicate with nursing staff.rn
I have been in the health care profession for many years , in many different countries and the care and professional of Dr Kuri and his staff, have been second to none.
just to update a little information. Dr. Kuri told me that he has done right at 3500 lap bands.
Who has used Dr. Kuri? rnrnTell us your story.
I know people must get tired of hearing this, but Dr. Kuri is about the most caring doc there is. He is also an excellent surgeon, according to my close friend Judy, an RN. When Judy accompanied me to TJ for the surgery, Dr. K invited her into his operating room to observe. She said that he and his team functioned like a symphony. rnrnI had my surgery before Dr. K. moved to the new hospital, but I loved the little place where we were and the hotel treated all of us kindly.rnrnThe day after surgery, I went shopping. Who can resist shopping in Tijuana?rnrnDr. K is not an all-around obesity doc. He is a lap-band surgeon. I would strongly recommend seeing an obesity specialist before jumping into this to determine whether the lap-band is your best option.
