CER Hospital Hospital
My name is Eveleine Currier and I am a Patient Facilitator for Dr. Kuri. I want to thank him for helping me to make the best decision I could have ever made. The LAP-BAND has given me my life back. The weight loss has given me the ability to really live my life again. To be able to share my story and help others achieve their goals is the greatest gift I can give in return.rnrnMy story, hmmm…. well it seems one day I just realized I got fat, and I couldn’t help but think, “how the heck did that happen?” I had never had a weight issue as a child. I was always active and had a high metabolism. I guess I took that for granted when I met my husband and life just seemed to slow down. Being married, I started making dinner with desert to follow and staying home instead of going out dancing. Every time clothes got a little tight I would just go shopping. Then, one day I woke up and I wasn’t a size 3 anymore… I was an 18+.rnrnI started to go through the diet fads one-by-one. You name it, I tried it. The weight would start to come off and then I would lose interest. Yo-yo dieting was hard on the mind and body. rnrnAt 31 I decided enough was enough, surgical intervention was going to be the answer. In doing my research, I felt I was too young to go the rest of my life with the side effects of gastric bypass.rnrnThen I saw a medical program about the LAP-BAND procedure. All I could think was, “WOW this is for me!” A friend and I did months of research, but we still had so many questions. It was so great to learn about a gastric weight loss tool that is adjustable and even removable. We found Dr. Kuri and knew that his experience and success with so many patients would help us. Of course I made her go first, and we were on our way.rnrnThe day of surgery I weighed in at 242 pounds. At 5’8’’ that was a reality slap from the 120 pounds I was used to. The surgery was very easy for me; after a few days of being sore, I was back to work. The hardest part was making the decision to take control of my weight and eating habits. No longer was a large pizza going to be the answer! Feeling good and looking good was going to be the reward.rnrnI was banded on August 12, 2004 and lost 50 pounds by January 2005. I found out a month later that I was pregnant with my second child. Dr. Kuri drained my fill to 1.0cc and said to watch my eating and exercise and that I should only gain healthy 25-30 pounds. “Yeah, right” I thought. With my first pregnancy I gained 65 pounds! Well, he was right I gained 28 pounds over the whole pregnancy and lost 38 pounds about six weeks later. And not even three years out and one pregnancy later I have lost over 100 pounds and feel great.rnrnThe best advice I can give to anyone feeling trapped with their weight, is do your research but don’t waste valuable years before you to do something about it. Stays focused on your weight loss goals and remember that the band is simply a tool to help you achieve those goals. You will still have to do your part with proper diet choices, self-control, and exercise. The LAP-BAND has so much to offer as a weight loss tool.rnrnTo Dr. Kuri, once again, thank you. Thank you for being a great Doctor and sincerely a wonderful spirit to know and call my friend. To make everyone feel special and capable of success is a gift you gives us all. rnrnEveleine CurrierrnPatient FacilitatorrnBanded August 12, 2004
I have had nothing but trouble. The Los Angeles hospital is clean and nice and the staff seemed good enough. I met with Dr Kuri before surgery very quickly to go over what would happen. He was very rushed and i did not get my questions answered. rnI never saw him again. Someone else checked me after surgery after I gave my money. When I call, another doctor calls back. When I had trouble after trouble all they said was to come back to Mexico. This is not possible on quick notice with 4 small children a job and a sick mother. rnI had to see a doctor nearby who thankfully took me in, warned me about Mexico and the Mexico doctors, and had to remove the old model band he said was put in at a bad place. He gave me the newest model that he says is much better than the old ones that are used in Mexico, after i heled for 3 months. He said I should have gotten the new band in the first place. The coordinator never said I'd get an old model Band in Mexico. This has cost me more than $27,000 already, most of my savings, and I should have gone to an american doctor in the first place. rnAt least i have lost 87 pounds by now, but it had nothing to do with the poor care I feel I received from Kuri in Mexico.

I was invited by Dr. Kur'is office to write a review. I'm sure I am on some mailing list. rnThe surgery and hospital were fine. Kuri seemed fine too but there was no more than 5 minutes with him before surgery. rnMy friend who went with me for surgery told me later that Dr. Kuri propositoned her. She told me this after he called me later to ask for her phone number. He never even asked me how I was doing but only wanted her phone number. He said he had \"information\" for her and i thought it was very weird. rnThis is horrible and I never went back to him for myself. He wanted to meet her in San Francisco for a fling. rnI talked with Joanne about this and she said to keep it quiet and brushed me off. I wonder how often this happens. rnI did go with a friend for a fill a few months later and saw that fills are an assembly line with 30 people waiting all at the same time. She did not get any questions answered and got no individual time at all. I got all my care locally before my band eroded 14 months later and had to be removed. They said when they took it out it was placed wrong.rn
I was banded by Dr. Kuri in Tijuana. The sad thing about being banded in another country is the lack of support. I highly recommend if at all possible you get your lapband in the U.S. and close by to where you live. I can't begin to count the number of times I have got a fill from Dr. Kuri only to have to return in less than 24 hours to have an unfill because the fill was too much and be told it was my fault.rnI used to promote Dr. Kuri but I've had too many time of going to see him to get some encouragement or suggestions only to be told I'm cheating. How professional is that? It's hurtful and it's not true.rnMaybe it's the hispanic machismo but can we be real and say perhaps if I had proper pre-op testing, including a psychological evaluation we would have found I should have never been banded. But Dr. Kuri would not admit that this is a crucial component of being banded. Instead he has contests to get people banded as soon as possible thru the holiday season.rnI've been kicked off his support group on line, possibly because I don't go along with the marketing scheme it's become. That's all it is anymore. I don't know why it's upsetting to me to be kicked off. I can't support the marketing scheme, so why would I want to be on the group?rnI'm getting excellent on line support at Successful Bandsters, another group led by an educator who has dedicated her life to being educated and educating others on the band.rnI know I'm burning some bridges... but I have to be honest and yes, I'm looking for a doctor here in the states to take me on as his patient

I had researched Dr. Kuri and booked my surgery with him without meeting him. My daughter went with me, she is a nurse and we had agreed if we felt ANYTHING was below par, we would leave and I would not have the surgery. Everything was impecable from Dr. Kuri's staff picking us up a the border to the staff to the very clean and modern hospital. I was banded on 5/10/08 and as of today am down 59 lbs. Everyone's journey will be different, but there has not been a day go by that I have not thought about Dr. Kuri and the tool he has given my to loose and keep off my weight. This site asked if there is anything negative to say, and I can say 100% that I have no negative comments or concerns about my experience so far. Thank you Dr. Kuri.
I love Dr. Kuri! I was banded in August of 2004. I can't believe how great the whole experience was. Dr. Kuri's team is top-notch! rnrnI was banded at the \"little\" hospital, but have been to the new facilities many times since. You will not find a cleaner hospital ANYWHERE. rnrnI would recommend Dr. Kuri to anyone who asks...
Dr. Kuri's compassion and kindness were the first things I noticed about him (other than his sweet smile). He is concerned above all for your health and that you completely understand the process of the surgery, and the rules of life after the surgery. He is world renowned as one of the top bariatric surgeons and specializes in Lapband surgery, performing over 4000 of them in total. Being that he is in Mexico and I'm in Canada, we discussed my family doctor and her comfort level with my decision as well my aftercare. The patient facilitators are amazing and mine was JoAnn Jackson from Denver Colorado. She is a nurse in an ICU and also had her surgery performed by Dr. Kuri. She and Drl Kuri are both a simple toll free phone call away if I have questions or concerns. I felt completely confident in the care of Dr. Kuri and his entire team. His website is http://www.lapbandsurgery.com/index-lap-band-mexico.phprn
Dr Kuri was awesome! Very professional, very human and very easy to talk to.rnThe day before the surgery, he took the time to explain me in details what he would do, how, and what was expected of me after. I didn't expect that he would take 30mn for that, as I already had received a lot of emails, videos and explanations from him and his associates! rnAfter the surgery he came to my bedroom a couple of times and even to say bye just before I left. I would warmly recommend him and his team.
Dr. Kuri is a wonderful surgeon and I was very pleased with the surgery and outcome. His office and staff were efficient and what I expected. Future patients shoudl know that ther is no follow up aftercare program. If something serious comes up he is ther for you and he is available for fills but that is a 2 minute appt. For me I needed an aftercare progrqam to go over issues. My first year was uneventful and I lost 40 lbs of the 80 I needed to lose. Since the first year (I am 2.5 years out) I have had issues that I do not get addressed. I am looking for a doctor in my hometown that will work with me on aftercare.
My first impression of Dr Kuri was that he looked clean cut and prfeessional. My first impression stayed the same with many additaives!! He is also kind, memorable, funny, and honest!! His office staff were wonderful all the time and were great at making you feel normal and confortable coming from another country! Their english was great! The least thing I like about all the staff and Dr Kuri is that they do not open an office here in Canada. Having siad that,l he has made trips here to Canada and I have seen him here too! Aftercare is very important and Dr Kuri stresses this the most! If not for that, the srugery will not work! The aftercare is from a distance however the office does keep in touch and Dr Kuri offers a support/party for all patients YEARLY!! I even think he foots the bill for the margaritas!!haha Dr Kuri is very honest and straight forward, He tell it like it is and explains all the risks invloved. He is clearly NOT in this business for the money. I have seen him personally turn people away! I would rate him a 10+ no questions!! Surgical competence and bedside manner would both rate top notch!! I hope I do not sound so positive that I it is too hard to believe, HOWEVER, ask me what you are worried about. I would love a challenge to find something I have regrets about!!rn
