Dr. Scott Shikora Named a “Top Doctor” in SurgeryrnCongratulations to Dr. Scott Shikora who was listed as one of Boston’s top surgeons in the “America’s Top Doctors” ranking in the Sunday (5/15/05) supplement of The Boston Herald. rnrnThe ranking was achieved through surveys and nominations by hospital executives and other surgeons.rnrnYou can read all about this nomination in either the May 16 Community Newspapers supplement or in the book – “America’s Top Doctors” published by Castle, Connolly.rnrnI like Dr. Shikora. He is very thorough and supportive. He emphasized greatly the need for aftercare. NEMC has a very good pre and post-op program. He is 100+ on a scale of 1 to 10.
My first impression was he is very nices person answer all my question. Dr. Robinson really cares about his patients . He sat down and talk to me about the risks and the benerfit of the wls. I dont feel rush at all the staff was kind too. Jennifer is his sercetary and she call me back everytime I left a messages.I talk to her about a surgery date but she needed my file first and it was not there so she said she will call me back when she gets them and she did first thing the next morning with my surgery date. I like the fact that they follow your prograss for 5 or more year. I would rate Dr. Robinson and his staff A+ +.

My surgery went very well. I have a Lap-roux-en-y, I was in the hosp. 2 1/2 days. My care was top notch. All 3 shifts of staff were right on the ball. I was not in pain at all. As most hospitals, it is not a quite place, B&W's is a teaching Hospital. I do not know what hospital that isn't! I would recommend B&W highly to others.
My pre-admitting appointment and testing was very pleasant and efficient. The pre-op lounge was great...lots of comfy couches and even internet access. The PACU staff were just awesome- couldn't be nicer. When I got to the floor though it was incredibly noisy. I had a roomate who needed a lot of help and wasn't seeming to get it so we were both awake all night. It seemed the floor might have been understaffed. The next day I was given my UGI very quickly and painlessly and then was on my way home!
Dr. Vernon was my choice of surgeon because I work at BWH and kept meeting one happy lapband patient after another. She seems to be the \"favorite\" among the OR staff and well, they would know! I needed my gallbladder out as well and being banded depended on its being successfully removed without any chance of infection. I was very glad that I had a highly skilled surgeon who was able to do both surgeries at once. Everywhere I went in the hospital other employees- nurse, anesthesiologists-all seemed to offer the same opinion: that she is a meticulous surgeon as well as a nice person. She has a fabulous, efficient, funny secretary as well, Jane, and it seems that she and Dr. Vernon work very well together. Two nutritionists are easy to reach with questions as are the PAs. I've been very happy with everything except for the longish times sitting in the waiting room which seems to come with the territory at big teaching hospitals.
My sugeon, Dr. Ashley Vernon was wonderful. She explained everything. She is a great surgeon. She said to me on my first introductory visit to make every single calorie count for your body. That has stuck in my mind and I live by that every day. We eat to live, not live to eat! Dr. Vernon's office staff, mainly Jane, is wonderful also. They take the time to listen to what you are saying. Dr. Vernon told me everything that can go wrong with this operation. She didn't sugar coat it. She also said that this is not a quick fix, that you have to work at it everyday. Also, Dr. Vernon said that you can still gain weight after this kind of surgery. I thought that this is drastic so I had better not mess it up. Now I am nine months post op and very happy. I have lost 80 lbs and feel wonderful! I think that surgical competence and bedside manner at both important. rnrn
