I had two fabulous nurses, Patty and Shar, and one horrible one. My vein blew and was quite painful, and the nurse was quite vocal about being busy with paperwork. After shutting off the medication, she clearly didn't want to take the IV out, almost yelling that she was busy and had other things to do. When I simply replied that I understood, but it was very painful, she grumbled, told me that she couldn't guarantee when someone would be back to put another one in, and finally pulled it out. My husband, who witnessed the whole thing, was furious, but knew I didn't want to make waves with any of the staff so held his tongue. I will be following up with BTC regarding this.

Dr. DiNick was great. He was caring, and explained everything to me. When I had any concerns, I found it very easy to talk to him, and appreciated that he himself called me if I left a message for his office. I had abdominoplasty, and hernia repair done, in Feb, 2003. I would definitely recommend him for any reconstructive surgery, and someday plan to see him again for arms and thighs.

Dr. Poplawski is a very compident surgeon. I have had no complications at all. I attribute this to his great abilities as a surgeon. He has a very dry sence of humor. He is very thorough in his exclamation of the surgery and after care. He shows great concern for his patients. He addressed all the risks involved in the surgery but I felt very confident in his abilites. My care at Grand Haven ( Ottawa Community Hospital) was absolutley fantastic. I could not have received finer care anyplace. BTC has an excellent after care program. The staff at Dr. Poplawski's office in Holland have been great. They are all friendly and caring. The nuetritionist was also very good with her presentation and follow up. I would rate Dr. Poplawski a high 9 and would recommend him to anyone.

My first impression of Dr. Poplawski was that he is a caring individual. He wants you to make sure you are ready for the journey.

The staff at his office are just as caring. They answer ALL your questions.

Dr. Poplawski empasizes walking walking walking after your surgery. And he's right.

I am greatful to have had Dr. Pop for my surgeon.

Dr. Pop as his nurses affectionately call him was great. I was very impressed with his attentivness to what I had to say, how he took time to expalin any questions I had. He was very straight forward and made me feel very confident in him. His track record is the best. Cindy Elder in his office has been an absolute sweetheart in dealing with me. She has been very patient and helpful. I know I am in for a lot of major changes, but I feel sure things will go as smooth as possible.

The only major complaint I had with BTC was that they don't make their patients aware that they are not an innetwork facility until right before surgery and then its to late to start all over again looking for a new surgeon so you kind of get tricked into paying more out of pocket than anticipated.

Overall, I am happy with my time at BTC. I couldn't wait to leave though. My room was SO hot it was unbearable. They finally found a fan and brought it in, they also called maintenance to come and turn the heat down, it wasn't self controlled. My television was busted, so that had to be replaced, and believe me, when you aren't walking, there isn't much else to do; I couldn't concentrate to read. We were supposed to have a private room the first night, but that didn't happen because it was New Year's Eve and they didn't have enough staff. That was a noisy night. The night staff didn't seem to care whether or not you got any sleep or not. When they would come in for my roommate, they would turn on lights and talk in loud voices. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep. I couldn't wait to leave. You also don't get to choose your roommate, and mine was very whiny. You get the feel that the hospital is a factory where they bring you in slice you and dice you then send you on your way and your not even sure what happened. BUT, in saying all this, I would still tell anyone to go to the BTC. Everything else about the hospital outweighs the negative.

I met Dr. P. once...he seemed capable & confident...I was wondering if he were a Christian...this is important to me now and didn't ask him about that when I talked to him in Sept of '02.
Since I met him I found out my 12 yr. old son had cancer...everything took the back burner but now my son is doing OK with his chemo and everything...so my operation is now back in my focus.
