Dr.Roe was my 2nd choice in Surgeons. I am glad that I made the choice to have him so the surgery. I am so pleased with the outcome of this surgery, I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!
His office consists of himself, Dawn and Joan. Everyone in his office was helpful, no matter how many times I called his office with questions.
I give Dr.Roe, Joan and Dawn 4 ****'s!!!
Dr. Roe seems to be very educated, sincere, and even humorous. The only negative statement I have so far is the office staff gave terrible directions so I was 5 mins late for the 1st appt. The initial appt consists of a group of 10-12 with Dr. Roe discussing every aspect of the surgery thru a slide show presentation. very informative.
They give you 24 hours to think about it, and you need to call for your next appt the following day.
I have my next appt scheduled the end of Feb.
I am very much looking forward to it.
UPDATE----I now have my surgery appt for April 9th!! Yippeee!
UpDATE I have an app. with Doctor Roe on 12-3-01 can't wait I have spoken to Dawn she was very helpful I will let everyone know if I decide to change Doctors.......:) UPDATE 12-7-01 Yes I have decided to change Doctors and Doctor Roe will be my new surgen my surgery date is 12-20-01 YYEESS!!!
Today is May 18th. 2002 and I am down 63lbs. I am very happy I picked Dr. Roe to be my surgen, his treatment of me in the hospital was great as is his after care program, I am feeling great and look forward to my monthly visits.
The date is 3-29-03 I am 18 months out or so, I just wanted every one to know that I am doing GREAT :) I have never felt better and I wanted to thank Dr. Roe and his staff once again for making all this possible,Take-care, Rho ;)
I can't say enough about Dr. Roe and his staff! I researched the surgery on this site along with all the comments from his patients and all thats been said is very much the truth! His office makes you feel very comfortable and they will help you in anyway possible! I would highly recommend him and his staff! :) A+++
Well, I was finally approved and had my surgery. I am very very happy with my choice of doctors. Dr. Roe has been absolutely great! My incision is only 2 inches long! Dr. Roe and his staff (Joan and Dawn) actually care, which is a relief when you start going through changes after the surgery! I am 100% happy with my choice of surgeons. (even though I had to pay more out of pocket with my insurance).
Dr Roe made us feel very comfortabe with him and the surgery. He didn't make it look easy, but doable.
I liked him right away and would recomend him to anyone.
Dawn was very helpful and gave more than 100 percent
I don't really see him regularlly for after care because he is 10 hours away, so we have a long distance relatioship. My new PCP is very go with my after care..I will be seeing Dr Roe again soon just for a follow-up
he did address the risks every time i saw him and even just before the surgery..
I had complete confidence in his surgical competence. I mostly saw residents in the hospital.
Dr. Roe Saved my life! He was very kind at our first consultation, and made me feel at ease giving me the pro's and con's of the surgery. I asked him if he would perform this surgery on the person in his life that he loves most if they had a problem that I had... there was no hesitation when He said he could have saved a loved ones life with the surgery. I WAS HOOKED! I knew he was talking FROM HIS HEART. I have seen him for several months after that and had no problems getting answers to questions from him or his staff, Dawn and Joan.
Future patients should know that he tells it like it is, and you always get strait forward answers to your questions. Kind of liking the medicine strait, tee hee hee...
Dr. Roe takes after care very personally, and has no problems consulting with other doctors, but more importantly, he likes to be the one to give care on a monthly basis, being sure to monitor BMI, Weight loss, Going over what is tolerated by mouth and not, and going over vitamins making sure B-12 is taken by injection to insure good health. He has a nutritionist that goes over what is needed before the operation, and followed up afterwards.
Dr. Roe is a person with a large heart and compassion. His staff also have these wonderful qualities. He studied obesity, and the affects, and as I stated earlier, he knew about it first hand from a loved one.
Dr. Roe came in after surgery with a beautiful teddy bear for me to hold against my incision to ease the pain of clearing my lungs. I could tell that he did not enjoy that aspect of his job, but also know that he was looking out for my best interest. He has a witty remark to everything I say and that is another thing that makes his bedside manner so great, Laughter is the best medicine.
I must say after everything I have been through I consider Dr. Roe, Dawn, and Joan as more than acquaintances, but friends. Not many Doctors and the staff can have that kind of affect on others, through the compassion they have given to me at my time of NEED. I thank them with my whole heart.
This whole journey has been positive steps to my well-being. I was happy from the first doctors visit, hospital stay, to after care. The only negative thing I can say is WHY I had to go through all the pain for so many years, when the surgery was available. The only answer to that is the knowledge is not out there for patents to know about, others answers are always PILLS and eat right... Awareness is very important and I let everyone I see know about my walk to the light...
I must say that this is my aspect of the journey and others may see this in a different way.

I feel very positive about Dr. Roe. During the initial meeting (too many people in too small and too warm a room - please be sure to tell them if you are bringing a guest) I was impressed with his informal but very forthright manner. He presented the RNY procedure clearly in a PowerPoint presentation, answered everyone's questions, and made me feel very at ease. I went home with a lot of paperwork, ready for my next appointment about 3 weeks later. Fair warning: you do need a psych consult. At the next appointment, I met with him personally, and he answered all of my million questions very patiently. Dawn and Joan (office staff) are good, and Dawn whizzes insurance through in no time (mine took a week). They called me and gave me the option of a surgical date that would be 3 weeks after my appointment! Unfortunately, I was unable to have the surgery that quickly due to my work schedule and need to wait for another month. I will have a visit with his nutritionist, another visit with him, and my preop exam and labs with my primary doctor. The only things that bothered me were that I think most of the staff (and maybe Dr. Roe) smoke and the office sometimes smelled of cigarettes, and that I think the suite of offices is kind of messy (maybe they need a better cleaning staff). Overall, though, I think Dr. Roe has a kind, positive, compassionate manner, a good sense of humor, and from all that I hear, is surgically competent and a patient advocate. As a nurse, I trust him and the hospitals he uses.
Dr. Roe seems very secure and confident in his abilities. I am intrigued by his method of performing the open surgery (1 1/2 hours and a 3 inche incision). This part is music to my ears. Not sure about his bedside manner. He seems to have a very dry sense of humor and is relatively "no-nonsense".
His office staff: Dawn and Joan, are terrific. Very patient and friendly.
Dr. Roe was very specific and very technical about the surgery and using the pouch afterward as a tool. He didn't gloss over anything. He was sympathetic to my fears answered many questions. I think my favorite thing about him is that he doesn't seem patronizing and he doesn't seem overly "doctorly". Not sure if I'm conveying what I feel very well but I really just liked him right off.
