Dr. McCarty is absolutely the best of the best! The other 3 surgeons at Baylor run a close 2nd to my man Dr. McCarty. His is the best program in the area, dare I say the country! I am just over 2 weeks post op and my scars are almost gone.

For anyone looking into having this surgery anywhere in D/FW area, or if you are willing to travel, you could not find a better place to have your surgery. I have not picked which surgeon at Baylor will be doing my surgery, but I can tell you that it wouldn't matter because they are all wonderful. Aside from being wonderful surgeons, two of them are Oncologists. In addition to the absolutely wonderful surgical staff, they have a support group like no other. I have been a "Baylor Buddy" for almost 8 months now and I haven't even had surgery. We have support group meetings every month for both pre and post op patients. They are wonderful and extreamly informative, but just in case you still have questions, we have a private online support group with over 600 members. The doctors, nurse and nutritionist even answer some of the posts. The Baylor WLS Center is the best facility that I have found, and I would never choose to go anywhere else.

9/13/02 I have gone to 2 seminars now, and have talk to countless people who have either had the surgery, or been to another doc’s seminar. I can say without a doubt that I feel 100% confident in the surgical ability of Dr. McCarty and Dr. Kuhn at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. The only problem is picking which one I want to do my surgery. In late August I attended the seminar of one Dr. Horrilleno at Medical City in Dallas. I love his assistant Debra, but the seminar left me a little unsatisfied. There were about 20 people, and it was a 1 hour presentation of trying to understand what Dr. Horrilleno was saying. He was a nice man, as was his beautiful wife, but I did not feel confident in his abilities. He is no longer doing the surgery Lap (only open)at Medical City. He says it is the instruments, not him. He also says that they are unable to do Lap on patients weighing over 350 lbs. Well, guess what? The staff at Baylor only does Lap, unless there is a complication of some sort, regardless of weight. Dr. Horrilleno has dropped all insurance coverage, so if you don’t have out of network benefits, forget it. Plus you will have to pay the difference between what insurance pays and what Dr. Horrilleno wants. Dr. McCarty said the surgery is about $35,000.00 out of pocket. OUCH! Oh, and Dr. McCarty has dropped Aetna, too many problems with the North Texas Director. All in all the seminar with Dr. Kuhn & Dr. McCarty was very informative. I was there from 5:30, seminar started at 6pm, till 9pm. There were people still there when I left. My husband laid down the law last night. He said that he wants me to have the surgery done at Baylor with Dr. McCarty or Kuhn, and I agree!!! By the way, Dr. Kuhn smiles a lot (he looks like someones really nice dad)and Dr. McCarty has a beautiful upper body (he looks like they plucked him out of ER). I did not get to see the lower half. LOL
By the way, the above mentioned are only my opinions, and may not be the experience or opinions of others.

Well, I called at the end of August, 2002 and I was enrolled in the Baylor Weight Loss Seminar for 12/12/02. It was worth the wait! What a fantastic program that Baylor has for WLS! I can't say anything but good things about the Doctors and their staff at Baylor!

My husband was against me having the WLS until he went with me to the seminar and he heard Doctors' McCarty and Kuhn, Arnold and Nicholson speak. He saw the slides presented and heard the stories of people who have had the WLS. After attending he was all for me having the surgery! What a difference a seminar makes!

Baylor has perfected the Lap Procedure. It seems to minimize complications. My husband was do impressed with the Docs! Might I add, so was I!

Their aftercare program sounds wonderful! They have a mail group you can plug into after you have attended the first seminar. I have received so much information from this mail group.

I am not sure if Doctor McCarty will be my surgeron, but it really doesn't matter to me. I trust the Doctors, they have all been trained very well. Doctor McCarty is the head of the WLS program at Baylor and he is wonderful! He seems to be suited for this position. All the Doctors seem very concerned for us and want to help give us a longer, happier and healthy life. But they tell us it's not a picknick! It is a lifestyle change. I am ready Doctors, is tomorrow soon enough?

5/5/03 Was the big consult day with Dr. McCarty. My husband and daughter were with me. Dr. McCarty was very nice and interested in any questions or concerns that me and my family might have about the surgery and aftercare. My daughter is still not wanting me to have the surgery, but she seemed bery impressed and assured by Dr. McCarty that he will do his best to take care of her mother.

Dr. McCarty is an extremely professional and sensitive surgeon. My first impression of him was that he takes great care of his patients. My impression has never changed. He will answer any questions you have HONESTLY. He is very upfront about the risks and never stops emphasizing how important aftercare is. On top of being phenomenal in the OR, his bedside manner is incredible. He takes care of you as if you are his only patient. You can't go wrong with Dr. McCarty.

He was very nice and informative.Looked me right in the eye.

His office staff is good. They were all friendly, the first time i visited
Dr Capps stressed aftercare in the intial
consultation.
Stated I would follow a strict diet and that I would be talking with nutritionalist.
Dr Capps strongly stressed the risks of surgery.

Well With my insurance changing I had to find a doctor that was in network with united
health care. I found that with Dr Mccarty.
I have a seminar scheduled for the 10Jul03

He does lapriscopic. I cant wait to meet him and his staff. I have heard wonderful things about him.

Caring, knowledgeable.

It hasn't changed.

Very caring, wanting the best for all patients.

Yes

The information seminar was very thorough with regard to risks.

Surgical competence is obviously most important, but there is a lot of comfort in a good bedside manner.

I went to his seminar in August '02. I had already attended Dr. Barzune's seminar but he is not in any insurance network so that ruled him out. Dr. McCarty and Dr. Kuhn's
presentation was very informative. I'm looking forward to my consultation.

I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH DR.MCCARTY AND HIS ENTIRE STAFF. I HAVE SPENT MOST OF MY LIFE BEING OVER WEIGHT, AS WE ALL KNOW THAT CAN BE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. HOWEVER FROM THE MINUTE YOU CALL DR.MCCARTY'S OFFICE YOU FEEL THAT THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO VIEWS YOU AS A PERSON WITH A DISEASE THAT NEEDS HELP NOT JUST ANOTHER PERSON THAT WANTS THE HOTTEST THING GOING. I HAVE NOT HAD SURGERY YET BUT I FULLY INTEND TO HAVE IT AND I WILL MOST DEFIANTLY USE DR.MCCARTY. I KNOW THAT HIS PROGRAM WORKS AND IF IT DOES NOT IT IS NOT THE STAFF OR THE SURGEON IT IS THE PATIENT. THE STAFF IS VERY FOCUSED ON AFTER CARE AND JUST THE GENERAL OVERALL LIFESTYLE THAT AWAITS YOU. I KNOW THAT NO ONE IS PERFECT BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND A SINGLE THING TO DATE THAT WOULD MAKE ME DOUBT DR.MCCARTY OR HIS STAFF.

My surgeon is actually Dr. Arnold, who has the same tax id number as Dr. McCarty. I am happy with my experience with Dr. Arnold thus far. He did an excellent job with the surgery; I have had no complications and terrific weight loss. He is a nice man who seems very compassionate and enthusiastic about helping the obese patient get healthy again.

I can't think of anything negative to say. Don't expect a stuffy, rude surgeon with Dr. Arnold. He is young, energetic, and funny.

My PCP hasn't referred me to him yet, but I hope to meet him soon.
