Great first impression! Sharp man - acted like I was the only patient on the planet. Loved consult room, better than a sterile exam room. Very non-judgmental and sympathetic to the medical plight of obesity. Friendly & helpful staff. Good customer service and follow-up on phone. I NEVER felt like I was bothering them by calling to check on status. They were always very patient and courteous.
Post-op has been good as well. Loved his team that took care of me in hospital.
Would use him again in an instant!
I had choosen a docter in Dallas.Mentioning no no names his office would not even set a appointment until they had all medical records from my previous doc. I was so frusterated trying to request info and other ofices questioning me saying the office should be doing this.I went searching calling the hospitals to see if they had any staffed to do the sergeryAfter i called Baylor they refeared me to DrMcCarty i was able to gwet a appointment with him in a matter of weeks whitch other programs were booked til Jan. I was so nervous going bymyself to see him i had done quite a bit of research and was really prepared. The office is very perfesional and caring and Dr McCarty was so conforting. He came in and explained the procedure that would be best for me and what all was involved and answered ant questions i had. He really seemed to care as far the outcomes explained the goods and bads and i think really prepaired me for the best journey of my life.I have a few friends that are following me through this journey and are as well prepairing for their journey as well good luck nicki and natasha
OH MY GOODNESS!! HE WAS THE MOST WONDERFUL DOCTOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! HE ACTUALLY CARES AND SINCERELY WANTS TO HELP YOU. I WAS REFERED TO ANOTHER DOCTOR AND THE MAN TREATED ME LIKE I WAS NOT IMPORTANT AT ALL. JUST A FAT PERSON! I CRIED ALL NIGHT. MY SECOND VISIT WAS WITH DR. MCCARTY AND HE WAS WONDERFUL!! HE SPENT ALOT OF TIME ASKING ME LOTS OF QUESTIONS AND ANSWERING ALL MY QUESTIONS. HE WAS WONDERFUL. I JUST CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HIM!!! I HAVE REFERRED 3PEOPLE TO HIM THAT I KNOW AND LOVE. ONE PERSON HAS HAD THE SURGERY ALREADY AND THE OTHER 2 ARE SCHEDULED. I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS I CAN AND ENCOURAGE YOU COMPLETELY TO PUT YOUR TRUST IN HIM. HE IS THE BEST!!
I met with Dr McCarty on 9/20/2000. I was very impressed with his personality and knowledge. He made me feel very comfortable and went over everything to pre-op to post-op care. I had previously been approved for surgery with another doctor; therefore, I am hoping that changing doctors does not delay surgery as I would love to have this done in Oct. 2000.
I met with Dr. McCarty for the first time today. I liked him a lot and he was very thorugh and insistant on explaining the bad with the good. He tried to talk me out of lap RNY in favor of open. No sale. I cannot take that much time off work. He said he does not expect any problems with the insurance and he can handle them if they deny based on medical necessity. It impressed me that he will schedule me for a heart valve test because I took Pen/Fen even though I have no symptoms.
When I first met him, I liked him. He was nice and seemed understanding, even though he probly doesnt know what it would be like first hand, you know from patient point of veiw. He seenmed like he was interested in wanting to help me in all ways possible. He still is. The only thing about the first meeting was that there was only one and at the time I was informed before I went so there wasnt that much to talk about. We just went over some major concerns I had. He was also ready to schedual as soon as possible wich was a little uncomfortable for me. But I can understand that I knew what I wanted and that I was there for a reason, so why tap dance around. I have suggested him to others, and one has even had the surgery with him also. His office staff is great, they are helpful and no matter what questions I have, weither about billing or health they answer them quickly and intelligently. They are also very thoughtful and not in a generic doctors office way. Right now they dont have a structured aftercare program but he is working on it. Dr. McCarty told me straight off "Your stomach will still be your stomach, it will just be smaller. It will either work or it wont." I was really informed before I went, because of research I had done and of my cousin that had the surgery done a few months before, so we just talked about a few of the risks that I had concerns about. I was surprised that he takes the gallbladder out while doing the procedure, because of the risks of gall stones. Overall I would say that him and his staff are great, though I had to remind them of to fill out some forms once. They worked hard with my insurance company which I greatly apreciate. I even saw his partner Dr. Kuhn in the hospital and he was very nice, although he has a different approach to aftercare. Dr McCarty wanted me to be on solids as soon as I felt I could handle it (about a week or two), Dr Kuhn though was wanting a liquid diet for 2 weeks and gradually go into solids. Dr McCarty saw me in the hospital 2 times in the 4 day stay, but the assisting surgin Dr Gogel (whom I would leave my husband for:)) visited me everyday at least once. And he was very helpful in questions and concerns. All in all I beleave I was very lucky to find the Surgical staff I did. I thank my cousin all the time for recomending me to them.
I can recommend Dr. Todd McCarty without reservation. He conducts himself very professionally, but is also very relaxed and refreshingly honest. He acts as though he has all the time in the world and patiently answers all questions. He realistically presents the pros and cons of surgery and emphasizes that it is a tool - not a cure. He strongly supports aftercare and is currently assimilating his team - psychiatrist, nutritionist, social worker, etc. He is in the process of beginning the WLS clinic at Baylor Med Center in Dallas, so the program is still in the "birthing" stage. He is very interested in feedback from his patients. His surgical competence is excellent (oncology, general, head and neck, etc., etc.). His bedside manner is relaxed and encouraging. As the program is established, the aftercare (support groups, nutritional advice, etc.) will only improve. I rate him a 10+!
