Dr McCarty is a great surgeon and doctor and makes you feel welcome the minute you step into the office. He does stress aftercare as far as diet, exercise, protein needs, ect. The thing I liked least was the office staff doesn't return phone calls but will usually respond to emails. You have to stay on them for them to respond back. He does explain all risks associated with the surgery and tells you up front that it is not a "quick fix" or a sure thing. You have to change your behaviors in order to be successful. I would highly recommend him.
My first impression fo Dr Mccarty I thought he was nice and had some very good bed side manners. I instantly knew that I had chosen the right Dr for my surgery. I was really impressed with his office staff especially the one that does all the insurance approvals she was so helpful and always willing to help me in anyway I needed it. I would rate Dr Mccarty the highest number possible. I would recommend anyone having this surgery to use Dr Mccarty.
My first impression of Dr. McCarty was awesome! He is a highly-skilled and competent surgeon and I felt comfortable having him do my surgery. Several friends of mine have used him and all have had wonderful results. His office staff is amazing and someone is always available to answer any questions or concerns. The aftercare program is great and includes post-op visits and nutrition classes as well as a support group that meets once a month. The risks of surgery are addressed at the seminar and Dr. McCarty will personally address the risks (if you have any additional questions) at the pre-op consultation. Overall I would rate Dr. McCarty and his staff and weight loss program a 10! He is fantastic and I am so glad I chose him as my surgeon.
On first meeting i found Dr. McCarty Efficient and knowledgeable with a great smile. So far, my opinion has not changed; except to say that since I had surgery, I am more convinced he was thew right surgeon for me. The office staff at The Weight Loss Surgery Program in Dallas is very nice, but somewhat young and new. I was a "Private Pay" patient and this is considerably different from an "Insured" patient. Under these circumstances, answers to questions are not always the same and can be confusing. In the beginning, I was cvoncerned that Dr. McCarty did not spend enough time with me. I still think he should spend a little more time with patients, but I also want him to have as much time to help others, as possible. Aftercare is stressed and very structural. The Weight Loss Surgery Program(WLSP) provides you an enormous amount of information, in wqritten form. At first, it is a little intimadating, but you later find that you need this information to refer back to. Aftercare includes a 2 week, 6 week and 6 month check-up, but it does not stop there because you have so many other people to contact if questions, issues or problems arise. Dr. McCarty is a man of few words. All the risks are spelled out in written form and discussed at a Pre-Op Seminar. You must attend the seminar before your application for the surgery is considered. I think he 's concluded that a peron who has gone through all the Pre-OP stuff knows and understands the risks and benefits by the time surgery comes around. I would rate Dr. McCarty a 10 for Surgical Competence and a 7 for Bedside Manner. I am happy about the 10 and can definitely live with the 7.
My husband and I learned of Dr. McCarty through our brother-in-law who is is a surgeon in Lubbock. Dr. McCarty had come highly recommended, and we understood him to have what was described as one of the best WLS centers in the country. Dr. McCarty and his team were extremely professional. Based on the information I had gathered, we felt Dr. McCarty had one of the best surgery protocols we had seen. Dr. McCarty answered all of our questions about the surgery, its risks, and potential rewards. I was particularly impressed with the number of surgeries Dr. McCarty has done, and the very low rate of complications recorded as compared to national averages. When it is all said and done, the most important part is choosing a skilled surgeon who has great interest in the outcome of your surgery. From my perspective, it isn't about bedside manner, looks, or any other superficial thing. It is about results. Dr. McCarty's program is statistically one of the best. Although we found Dr. McCarty to be very pleasant and ethical, we chose him for his skill, and he delivered. The Baylor WLS program is very well designed. It has a great aftercare program, and internal support group called Baylor Buddies. Some members of the office team have actually gone through WLS and have personal experience that makes them able to empathize with the patients.
Both my husband and I had the surgery (on the same day). We both had (and continue to have) great confidence in Dr. McCarty and his team. We would highly recommend him based on our experience with the Baylor program.
I meet with Dr. McCarty on 11-25-02. He is a wonderful person and very positive. He answered all of my questions and even asked me a few.
After some trials with my insurance company I finally was able to have the Lap RnY on 12-29-03.
Everything went great without any issues what so ever. Dr McCarty is a wonderful surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone who is thinking about having a major change in his/her life.
Dr M was awesome, his support staff, and the hospital staff just wonderful! For the first time ever having surgery, it definately was great having such a great group of health professionals there to guide and support me through the whole process!!
The only negative was the confusion with my Mother and girlfriend who were not kept up to date as things progressed as they had hoped, however they were very pleased with how everything had turned out and how well I was doing after surgery!
