My first impression of Dr.Todd McCarty was that he was very concerned about me as a patient, and he took the time to make sure I understood the surgery, and risks. The office staff was completely professional, and friendly. Dr. McCarty cares and he's an excellent surgeon. It's very important that you take advantage of the aftercare program for your surgery success.
I rate Dr. McCarty & his Staff 10+.
My first impression of Dr McCarty was "what a cutie pie". And he had a great bedside manner and was very worried about me. He took me on as a patient with problems from another Dr and never thought twice about it. I was almost dead and I remember him sitting on the side of my bed and he told me "he had had no one die, and I was not going to be the first". After that I trusted him 100%! He did everything he could to get me back on my feet. You can not go wrong with Dr McCarty as your Dr. He is very busy, and may not make it by everyday, but he makes sure that if he can not make it, one of the other Drs. in the group does.
Dr. McCarty is AWESOME. My impression of him has not changed from the night we went to seminar. He was the doctor there and I really liked his personality. The staff is great in his office, always have smiles on their faces and eager to help with any questions. Up to this point there has not been anything I don't like about Dr. McCarty. I feel he is very competent and this makes me feel very comfortable. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate him a 10.
Dr. McCarty seems to be the "top of the line" with this surgery. He is patient and kind and able to answer any question presented to him. He seems to be extremely capable and has the surgery down to art form. The only thing that worries me is that he might be a bit overly confident although I certainly want to have a confident surgeon!!! Dr. McCarty is overseeing a new WLS program in Waco, which is where I am having my surgery. I would go to Dallas (2 hours away) if that is what it would take to have him as my surgeon. Dr. McCarty takes time to explain risks but explains that they are meant to educate, not to scare. While all enter this knowing the risks, everyone of us HAS to enter believing that any thing bad will not happen to us. If we believed otherwise we wouldn't do it. Because this is a new program for Waco the structure is still taking place but everyone in the office has been great. I honestly do not think that I would consider this surgery at this time at Hillcrest, only because it is new, if it weren't for the fact that I had the good fortune to get Dr. McCarty as my surgeon. And, not to take away from any of McCarty medical skills, he is nice to look at as well!
Very kind, yet professional, made no outragious promises and said that the road to weight loss would not be easy and the surgery would not be a quick fix, only a tool to use during the journey. His office staff was kind and helpful with all insurance issues. I had a different employer then and was approved with the first claim his office submitted prior to the surgery. After the surgery he made frequent visits during my hospital stay. On my scheduled office appointments, he took the time to answer my questions and concerns. I would recommend him to anyone that would consider using him. Aetna was the insurance company at the time of my surgery, however I now have Blue Cross Blue Shield and they will not cover any kind of WLS even if it is a life and death matter. Aetna will cover plastic surgery for WLS patients, Blue Cross will not cover ANY, despite the fact that I have severe back pain and discomfort.
I think he is a great surgeon with good bedside manner. I still feel that way about him. His staff was great and caring. Many have had the surgery. There was nothing that I didn't like about him.He won't steer you wrong. He is proactive on aftercare. They have a great aftercare and support program. He will tell someone if they shouldn't have surgery. I would give him the highest marks.
Both his bedside manner and surgical competence are great.
