Dr. Duncan has been the greatest doctor on the planet. He is super nice. I am so thankful for him and his staff

My experience with Dr. Duncan and his office has been fine. It was not what I
had expected, but I have no negative feedback. I saw Dr. Dr. Duncan at the
initial group meeting introducing the procedure, during the pre-op group meeting
a week prior to surgery, and one-on-one for a few minutes in my room after
surgery. All other visits to his offices have been with his staff.

I did not request any other meetings with him privately- and he might do that,
but if you follow their standard program, you will progress through their system
in a group. His staff that supervised the groups and the other surgeons who
visited and assisted with pre-op procedures were fine.

My point in making these comments is: If you need a specialist who will provide
heavy quantities of personal contact time... I don't think this will be the
right office. I did a lot of research and tried to educate myself prior to
attending the first meeting. I wanted someone that would be very familiar with
the surgery and have the best opportunity to deliver excellent results. Dr.
Duncan reports to have completed over twelve hundred of these procedures now and
I thought the odds were good that he would not encounter anything he hadn't seen
before while doing mine. I took care of the "personal comfort" stuff and wanted
a surgeon that was skilled at doing this procedure. I have had no issues
with my surgery and have been amazed by the lack of negative symptoms which I had
imagined would exist afterward.

Dr Duncan is pleasant in his presentation, but clear on the seriousness of the procedure. In addition to the pre-op test required by your insurer, Dr. Duncan requires participation in support group meetings to meet those individuals already post-op. Many of his staff members are post-op and can share their personal experiences. He provides strict guidelines for pre-op- and sticks to them. He requires weight loss prior to your surgery date. I watched several pre-op's get their surgery "re-scheduled" the week prior to their original date because they had gained weight. Follow instructions.

So far- I have been thrilled with his surgical abilities / results and satisfied with his office's services. If you are comfortable with groups- I'd recommend Dr. Duncan without reservation.

Dr. Duncan came highly recommended. I first attended an information session with him back in April 2003 at Atlanta Medical Wellness Center. He was funny, yet he let you know of the seriousness of this procedure. I have done loads of research on the surgery, but I had never actually seen it performed. Dr. Duncan had a great film of an actual Roux-N-Y surgery. I have some friends who are nurses at Atlanta Medical Center and they say that his aftercare program and Dr. orders are explicit. He is very well respected. He also seems to be very serious about patients losing weight before surgery. Supposedly, he will not operate on a patient who has gained an ounce.
I went to my consultation in the office on October 30, 2003. A few women on his staff have had the surgery. If I wasn't sold before they were a great advertisement. The staff was really nice.

My PCP has referred me to Dr Brightwell for March 17th, 2003. I'm waiting for my PCP to call my insurance (Cigna Healthcare) to see about a referral to Dr Brightwell. Since he is OON for my insurance, I'm praying they approve the visit. Does Dr Brightwell go to Medical Center also? or only St Francis?

I'm pleased by the comments I've read about Dr Brighwell and look forward to meeting him soon.

I would have to agree with alot of other people...Dr Duncan has a very dry sense a humor. I liked him right away. He seems to be a very caring individual. He's very concern about obese people and is even willing to donate his skills to the uninsured. That says alot about a Dr. He does emphasize after care and have a program established.

06/01/2003 - Dr. Duncan was wonderful. He is very concerned with all of this patients. He love to joke, but at the same time he takes his work very seriously. I have not met with him one-on-one yet, but I am sure that if he is anything like the information session he will be wonderful.

06/12/2003 - I had my one-on-one appointment, but I did not see Dr. Duncan. I was taken care of by one of his associates. She was wonderful! My mom went with me because this surgery seems to make her more nervous and me. The entire staff was very helpful to both me and my Mom. Trust me...my Mom needed the help more I think. I am just glad that my Mom was reassured that Dr. Duncan and his entire staff give 110% to each of their patients.

10/16/2003 - I had my pre-op consulataion with Dr. Johnson. He was just as wonderful as Dr. Duncan. He was very professional and was more than happy to answer any last minute questions I had. I also was able to speak with Dr. Duncan as well. He, as always, was very helpful. He was playing devil's advocate since this was our last chance to back out. I really appreciate him doing that. I really do think that if it was any other doctor at a different practice they would have never tried to get me to back out. This just proved that Dr. Duncan does not do this for the money. He truly care about ALL of his patients!!! I know that this website says that I need to say something negative, but I really do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Duncan or any of this staff. They all have been very helpful and patient with me.

Dr. Duncan has received nothing but praise from everyone I've met who has been to him. Most of my support group members are his patients. He attended one of our meetings and seems very down to earth. Great personality too! Dr. Duncan has added to his office staff and it's so impressive to get calls promptly returned. I've never experienced a doc's office where EVERYONE is so cheerful and concerned about you as an individual. I've yet to meet him as a patient but I feel confident it's going to be a very positive experience.

Dr. Duncan was very knowledgable and very imformative about WLS. The seminar was great and he even put a little humor in it. His office staff is very friendly and courteous. He is very strict with his before care and aftercare.
