Dr. Simon impressed me as a very knowledgeable, competent surgeon. He was very straight forward and told me the facts. He is very personable and genuinely seems to care about his patients and their success. I was very impressed with not only his medical knowledge and skill, but of his confident and caring bedside manner.
Dr Steven C. Simon is a fantastic Dr and has years of experience. He is very patient and calm as well as understands your need to ask a million questions. My surgery was on 08/29/06 and he did a SUPER job. I'm now 7 days Post Op and down 11.5 lbs. I would recommend anyone seeking a Wonderful, Caring DR for WLS. Carrie
I currently conducted approximately 1 & 1/2 to 2 years of research on the surgery. I met Dr. Simon and was amazed at his knowledge and honesty about ALL the pros and cons of the surgery. I also loved the fact that he addressed the fact that if you don't follow your post-op instructions and due what is neccessary to use your tool [pouch] effectively, then he is not the surgeon for you. I totally got the since that him and his staff were caring about their patients and the work that they do.
I originally attended a seminar with Dr. Newhoff and liked his direct manner right away. He asked the group, "Who wears a seat belt?" All but one lady raised their hands. Dr. Newhoff asked that lady to leave if she wasn't serious about her health because his office doesn't waste their time or skill on people that don't want to live life to the fullest and in the safest way possible! I knew this was the right office for me and drive 2 hours each way to my appts., even though there is a local program much closer to me. I chose Dr. Simon instead of Dr. Newhoff soley based on wanting a lap procedure instead of open. I also figured his basic principles would be like his partner's, Dr. Newhoff, and was right on. Dr. Simon is very direct, covers risk info, and spends time to answer your questions. I was waiting for my 10am appt when a sales rep came in late and wanted to see the doc ahead of me for his 9:30am appt. Dr. Simon came out and told the guy that he would have to wait since it was now 10:30am and his patients have priority, since afterall, isn't it about the patients? I loved that and he even took over 40 minutes to go over my list of questions. When I apologized for taking so long he said,"If you took the time to write a list of detailed questions, I can take the time to answer every single one."
Overall, I've been very satisfied with Dr. Simon. My first impression was right on--direct in manner and a very skilled surgeon. Just read up on his training--excellent schooling. He performed my lap RNY in 10/05 and everything has been right on track. I had no complications during or after surgery and had virtually no pain afterwards due to this nifty pain treatment method that Dr. Simon uses. (Pain medicine in a bag that automatically administers to the incision sites.) His aftercare program has been non-existent for me since I live too far away, so I can't comment on that. I know his office has post-op meetings and I was required to take pre-op education classes. I attend a support group locally instead. His staff are extremely busy and can be hard to reach at times, but very nice. Be patient and give them time to respond, they have many people calling them every day. Lord knows I called every day for weeks to get my daily case info...imagine how many of us call to bug them constantly?!?! Last time I was there they had just hired 3 new people so hopefully they will be quick to respond for new patients with the same pleasantness I received. (Thank you, Marcia!)
Overall, I am happy with my choice and feel it was the right one for me. I refer people to this office without hesitation. I found that Dr. Simon had far more experience than the local surgeons I interviewed and I liked that his/Dr. Newhoff's practice use a method similar to the Fobi pouch involving a silastic band. This method wasn't available locally. I still think their office is well worth the drive!
I liked Dr simon from the start. He was very informative. Me and my wife had surgery performed by Dr Simon. I would recomend him to anyone thinking of having wls. The after care provided by Dr simon is great. It is structered and free of charge. We had such a great experance with him that as our daughter aproaches 16 we are thinking of intrusting him with our baby. She has the same weight problems as we do. If I trust him to operate on not only my wife but my daughter. Than how could I not recomend to anyone else.

I had a great first impresssion of the doctor. I went to one of the conferences he holds. He was very upbeat, straight forward with facts, and quick to answer questions. I scheduled an appointment with him that night and was very excited. I am 5'9" tall, 225lbs, 26yrs old, high cholestoral, a specialist in asthma telling me the reason I can't breathe and have more attacks is due to weight, and have many more health problems of general character. When I went to the office, I saw other patients were treated nicely. I was called in to be on a special scale that figures every thing out about your weight right off. Most of the information it provides a doctor, computer program, or someone with a calculator and the formulas could provide in my opinion. I met with the doctor and very quick into the conversation he told me I could not have the surgery at all. If I wanted it I would have to gain more weight. He was generous though to let me know that I could buy into a Weight Watcher Program for $200 some odd dollars a month to diet. I have been a WW and am a lifetime member. I gained my weight from bad health/surgeries on my face and lack of being able to be out of bed for a year and a half/ restricted exercise now/ and steroids. For that money each month I could have a handy dandy calculator gizmo (this website has info that can help), menu suggestions, a notebook!, and wieght in once a month! Wow! For $48.00 a month I get the use of the WW website that does the same stuff, a counselor, weight in 4 times a month, meetings, and journals! What a scam. He also offered me his books. Well, that meeting has been some time ago and I have fluxed up and down trying to lose weight, I have been reduced to tears by that man because he refused to help me by listening to all the info - breaking the oath he took to be a doctor. He caused harm when he should have done nothing to me if he could not help me at all in the manner I requested. I told him I thought his program was a silly and he still made me meet with his nuitrionist who tried to pitch me again. I asked her how she lost her weight when she mentioned she knew what it was like to feel like me. She replied that she did it by surgery! Ha! That program is silly and he was dead wrong on the non-need for surgery and getting approval would be difficult. One of my other problems had been restless leg symdrom, something that also helps you get the surgery approved. Turns out it was extreme nerve damage, my spinal column is being crushed by a growth that can't be removed, disks are slipping and the weight needs to go. Congrats doctor, you have furthered more pain on a patient. Had you seriously taken the time to research me and stopped trying to make a buck, you would have help me by aiding me to get rid of the weight that I am struggling with that is causing me pain. Since I have left your office I have followed diets by my PC, been on Lipitor which caused me to be in the hospital for a week because of a drug reaction, and now I am getting the surgery I should have when I came to you. I was prepared, I had done my homework, had my referral, had my physch approval, had all my other docs on board and you just caused me pain emotionally and physically. I know weight is my own issue, but patients come to you for help and it is your responsability to take them seriously, not blow things off to extract money from them. Overall I give you and your office a 10+ at scamming and a -10 at being a true medical professional. If you didn't have a white coat on and a Ph.D on the wall I could have sworn you were a car sales man! Thanks bunches. PS This is only my impression, I am not what others may have thought.
First impression, very smart man.
My impression didnt change over time.
Office staff is very helpfull, they know their stuff!
There was nothing not to like about Dr. Simon that I saw.
That he know's what he is doing!
Aftercare was stressed before and after surgery.
Yes, there is a structured aftercare program.
The risks of surgery are addressed from the first seminar.
I would rate him an 9.
Both are very important to me.
Dr. Simon has been most friendly, easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, very patient with questions and just absolutely excellent. He even called me directly before surgery when I was fighting a rather severe cold. He and his office have excellent classes and information given to each patient prior to surgery. This education that covers everything about this kind of surgery and the effects from day one through long term is excellent and I would think an absolute necessity. This way I knew full well the commitment I needed to make to be a success with this surgery as a tool.
I do not think I could have had a better surgeon. I also think his staff, the nurses and the hospital could not have been better trained to work with me through this surgery.
I highly recommend Dr. Simmon.
Dr simon is a very caring man. He is very knowledgeable. His staff is wonderful, always willing to answer any questions I have. He is very strict about your water intake and not drinking any soda after sugery. he will not repair a pouch that has been stretched if he find out you have been drinking soda.
