Dr. SImon is a friendlt caring individual who is confident in his abilities to serve his patients. He has been consistent in his encouragement and very helpful. His office staff are friendly and give you the time you need to get your answers. Dr. Simon is very specific in teaching that the pouch is only one tool to use in weight loss. He encourage use of the whole team from nutrion to psych support. It is my understanding that there are plans to develop a support group with a professional moderator to keep the group moving and relavent. Dr. Simon reviewed the risks withme and with my family. He wasn't sure if he'd able to the that lap, but was hopeful, and as it turned out he was sucessful. My surgery took longer but I slao have a BMI of 82. My surgeon teaches surgical residents and interns, so I had several different people following me in the hospital and one time in the office. I felt that they were well supervised and confident in their abilities, deferring to Dr. Simon if they were not sure about my questions. My experience was very good. I did have some difficulty with my attending physician in her understanding about the need for her referral. I was surprized by my attending physician and have since changed physicians. My new doctor listened to what I was saying about the aftercare needs of a bariatric patient and I believe that component is well covered now. I had to educate my attending(s). One was clearly lacking in understanding and didn't seem to want to learn. That was my negative experience. I still came out a winner though, as my new attending is very supportive.

My first impression of Dr. Steven Simon was very good.I knew that he was a hold no punches doctor, and that he took a pride in this kind of surgery. He seemed very interested in helping me lose weight. His office staff was great in helping get all my tests and other appointments made. Since I live 2 hours away they made a point of making most of my appointments the same day.
I can't complain about anything with Dr. Simon or any of his staff. He has a great aftercare program in which they talk about my progress and address any problems or concerns and questions I may have. I was given all the risks of this surgery the explanations of how everything was going to be done was absolutley wonderful. Dr. Simon was in my opinion the best doctor I could've had. Everything was so great his bedside manner and surgical competence impressed my very much. I couldn't of asked for better.

My first impression of Dr.Simon was: I finally found a Dr who understands and cares.I've met him just once since this all has started but he took his time to learn about me,let me know all about the surgery, the negative, the positive.Went into great detail of all my work I'll have to be ready for, with the tool he will be creating for me.He didn't rush anything,he really is compassionate, and his staff is really great. It has taken me about 2mo.to get everything rolling.I recommend him to anyone he's the best.

At my consult appointment, Dr Simon spent nearly 2 hrs talking with me. First, he asked questions about me, then let me ask him questions. He was very thorough. I am very happy I chose him as my surgeon. Everyone at Guthrie seemed very nice. I would highly reccomend them to anyone considering WLS.

Dr Stephen Simon, Guthrie Clinic Sayre Pa.
I've only seen him a few times but I'm sure that post op I will get to know him better.he seems to have a great bedside manner, very infomative friendly and open to the many questions we have no matter how silly they seem. His secretary Kassie is a sweetheart no matter how much you bug her she always comes out smiling.Dr.Simon works with a lot of residents since this clinic is associated with a learning hospital. the ones that i have had contact with have been very pleasant.

My first impression of Dr Simon was that he was a very knowledgeable, caring man. Over time my first impression proved to be correct.

His office staff is very friendly and helpful.

I can honestly not think of anything I do not like about him.

One of the best things about him is that he takes whatever amount of time is necessary to talk with you in his office. When you are in a office visit with him he continually asks "What else can I answer for you?" and does not end the session until he is satisfied that you have no furhter questions. He is very patient.
He has a strong emphasis on aftercare. He does have a structured program. This program is evolving as his program is relatively new (about two years??).

He very carefully addressed the risks with me, but he also addressed the risks to my health if I didn't have the surgery, or take the weight off in some manner.

Overall I would rate him as top-notch. Its hard to imagine anyone better!
Both surgical competance and bedside manner are great.

I emailed him initially with some questions. I was happily surprised when he answered.
He verified that my insurance was covered.
I called my PCP Tues 1-16 for a referral.
It didnt take long for approval. Yea!
I have a date on March 2 to see Dr Simon.
We invited Dr Simon to a large gathering of pre and post ops. We were delighted when he came. That says volumes about him and how he views aftercare. He is there for us.

Dr Simon is a wonderful person and a great surgeon. He is honest and straight forward when talking to you about this surgery. He spent alot of time talking about how this procedure works at my first appt. He answered all my questions and made me feel like I wasn't alone in this battle of obesity. It has been 2 yrs already and I have lost 130 lbs and I feel great. Dr Simon and his staff are wonderful and they have a great program. It worked for me and can work for you to if your ready.

I was so impressed with him---His name is Dr. Stephen Simon at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. On my first visit, He sat for over and hour and explained the procedure, the risk and so on and so forth. He never did an examine---He then had me see the dietitan, the endocronoligist, and pulmonoligst. His office staff is excellent and very knowledgeable and always available. He works and I will work very closely with them and the dietitan once I have the surgery-
There was nothing that I didn't like about him--- Yes they have a very structured aftercare program---
