My first impression of him was really good. He is very nice and very sensitive. He always wears a bow tie, so you never forget him. He's got a very mellifluous voice that puts you at ease right away. rnrnHis office staff is extremely helpful and works to make this as easy as possible. They return phone calls promptly, which is a big plus when you have a bunch of questions and they never seem bothered by them all.rnrnThe aftercare program he has is a huge plus, for me. Personally, I love exercising, but just need to be at a healthier weight where I feel comfortable doing so without stressing my overstressed joints. The exercise program he has set up is amazing and I'm already looking at other gyms to join when I'm done with that. It feels really good to look into that again and know that I have a lot of support.rnrnHe thoroughly addresses the risks of surgery many times over. rnrnI would rate him very high. rnrnI think competence is more important. However, I think that having both makes for the best experience.
Dr. Myers is the best. I investigated the other bariatric programs in Columbus and even spent almost a year trying to \"get through\" the hoops at OSU when I found Dr. Myers. rnrnHe is a very kind man. He offers weekly information sessions and HE is the speaker, unlike most programs where you don't meet the surgeon until right before the surgery. He has Annie, a patient advocate, who makes everything easy for you. Their program is now at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus and it's great. At OSU, they gave me a \"check list\" of everything that I needed to have done and then reminded me once a month of what I had not yet completed. Dr. Myers offers a 1-day plan which includes blood work, physicial, psych testing and eval, meeting with registered dietician and meeting with exercise physiologist. After that, they send everything to your insurance company, and you know within a few days what you need to do for approval.rnAfter care is an important part of the program and I will have 12 weeks of personal training and exercise classes to help me change my lifestyle. I can't wait for surgery!
I dealt with different people at Fresh Start. Dr. Myers did the surgery as well as one pre-op and one post-op visit. All other pre and post op visits were handled by Dr. Timothy Custer, who worked out of the Lancaster Hospital at the time.rnBoth Drs. Custer and Myers were very easy to talk to and easy to ask questions of...they were both very knowledgable and took the time to answer and explain any questions that I had. rnI'm very happy to date with the Fresh Start Program. They have a very comprehensive program that includes both pre-surgical screening and care as well as post-operative care. This includes having dieticians and trainers on staff to help with nutritional guidance as well as exercise.rnThe only thing that I wish they would have done differently would have been to more thoroughly explain the risks of the surgery at the initial seminar rather than just a couple of weeks prior to the surgery. It would not have changed my mind, and I was well aware of most of the risks. However, when the risks were explained, they were explained in great detail and I had ample opportunity to ask questions concerning the risks and have everything explained to me.
My first impression of Dr. Myers from his seminar was that he seemed extremely competant in skill and very compasionate in manner. He is a soft-spoken, nonintimidating guy.rnrnOffice staff is very friendly and Patient Advocate Annie McQuate is the best. Dr. Myers and his staff make you feel very comfortable and give you lots of information. All of the risks of surgery are explained well, and are explained several times. rnrnThey have an extensive pre-op and aftercare program in place that encompasses psychologists, nutritionists and exercise physiologists. They have an approach that treats the whole person, and their success rate is higher than national averages.rnrnDr. Myers has a great bedside manner and I am confident in his surgical abilities. I would rate Dr. Myers a 10 and his staff/overall program an 8.
Dr. Myers was so down to earth. rnrnTo be honest I was paranoid. I could not make up my mind about which procedure to have done, but what helped me with my decision was that I didn't want to go back and forth to the Dr's to be stuck with a needle every month nor did I want the ability to go back to my old eatting habits.
I first met him at the informative group meeting. His staff and a speaker was present. I instantly felt that he was a very caring, kind, & knowledgeable surgeon. I wasn't thrilled about the expense associated that insurance does not pay for but after going through this for 2 months I do understand. He does require joining a gym which is part of the expensive but I am kind of glad now. I am now scheduled for surgery on 3/12/07 exactly 2 months from the time of my 1st appointment. Very quick!! Staff is very kind but I did have to keep on top of them. But I do understand they have a lot of patients and are currently functioning out of 2 offices. My last appointment with him confirmed that he does listen and give you the time to voice any concerns. Will update more after surgery! Surgery was 3 days ago. All has been going well seen MD 2 times a day in hospital along with his own special bariatrics nurse. Riverside nursing was not the best but MD and his direct staff were wonderful.
My surgeon when I first meet him was fantastic, i said then and have always thought that god meant for us to meet and him to be my surgeon. He has meet and exceeded my expectations and impressions so far. The office staff and his team are just as great, i have never felt so confortable around a doctoe before. He and his team are very caring about each of there patients aand the needs and wants. As for there aftercare program it is emphasized and structured for each patient and is great so much more is offered and required i did not find it at the other places i checked out. His program seems like a complete package for a effective and beneficial WLS.
Dr. Myers is one of the most caring doctors I have ever seen. As a nurse, I knew when I first met him that he was throrough and he was going to make sure that you were taken care of from the day you start the program and then for the rest of your life. rnHis nurses are the best. I had surgery last week and about a week before it, I almost chickened out, but I called Annie and she prayed with me over the phone about it. How many medical professionals today are willing to cross that line? It made me know that although I was having cold feet, I could go on with my decision to have the surgery.rnOn the day of surgery, Dr. Myers was wonderful with me and my family. He was there to answer any questions that we had and he was always there for any of his patients.rnI developed pneumonia the night of my surgery, which I may have had going into the surgery and just not known it. When the nurses called him at home and told him about it, I couldnt believe it, at 0430am who was walking into my room, but Dr. Myers. He went with me to get an abdominal CT to make sure I didnt have a leak, which I didnt, but instead found the pneumonia and imeediatly began to treat it.rnIf you want a doctor who truly cares about his patients and their comfort, choose Dr. Stephan Myers at Fresh Start Bariatrics.
I really like Dr. Myers. I was dissapointed after I got an infection and he had to do emergency surgery and cut me 6 in. along the left side of my belly button. Although that wasn't when I got dissapointed. Then 2 days later he told me he had to do surgery again because he didn't get all the infection out. He ended up cutting out a hole that you could fit a softball and baseball in. Still that wasn't when I was dissappointed. It was after I came home. They had put a \"wound vac\" in my gigantic hole to help speed up the healing. It was so painful. After a few weeks it was hard to get him to give me pain meds. It was like he thought I was a drug addict or something. So when I did get a prescrib. I did my very best to make them last. It was just like he didn't have any sympathy for me or didn't think I should hurt that bad. But overall, I love him and appreciate all he has done for me. I'm very fortunate though in that I could have died from the infection. I know that before the wound vac, when they would \"pac\" the site it was total hell. As every mother knows how painful having a child is, I would have rather had 5 kids than go through that pain. But thankfully I made it through with lots of prayers and the wonderful nurses at Medcentral in the Woundcare clinic- Marylin and Lisa was fabulous. I would rate him a 10 for the bariatric surgery.
