He was very nice and very caring. He was honest about everything including the downsides which I thought were minimal compared to what I was facing in the future. Even though he had people waiting because he was behind he still took time with me and never made me feel rushed. So far his staff has been very helpful and nMy first impression of him was very great he was very kind and understanding. Overtime I think my opinion has changed becuase he really pushes therapy before considering surgery failure. While I do not think I have a surgery failure (I made him check with an up gi to make sure) I really had to push to get this cleared up for my on mind sakes. The office often runs 2 hours behind so be prepared to wait. The aftercare program is non existance I am being treated by my PCP sorta the blind leading the blind but I am teaching her a few things. Overall he is a wonderful surgeon and I would reccomend him to any member of my family that was considering this or any other type of surgery.ice.

Dr. Sherer is a great doctor. He truly cares about his patients and understands the concerns they have. He is thorough in his explanation of the WLS. He has a great bed side manner.

Dr. Sherer was very informative. Explained in detail the risks involved. Professed to be a tool for God. Bed side manner was wonderful. I would recommend him to anyone.
You will need to ask your PCP for aftercare. I'm blessed with a wonderful PCP so Dr.Sherers's lack of aftercare is not an issue for me. Although if I were to have complications I know that Dr. Sherer would be there 100%. I would choose him over anyone.

My husband and I met with Dr. Sherer on March 21. We both were very impressed. He spent a good deal of time with us and was very happy to answer any questions we had. We both really like him. His office staff was very nice. We did have to wait for two hours to see him though. He was in surgery. I guess if I had been the one in surgery, I would have wanted others to be patient while they were waiting. Not much aftercare emphasized at the first meeting but I am supposed to meet with the office staff again on the date I have my pre-op visit to discuss aftercare. He was very open and straightforward about the risks of surgery.

Post-op: He was absolutely great. I feel I have had excellent care from Dr. Sherer. He spent a lot of time with me during my post-op visit and answered all my questions. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I had my consultation with Dr Sherer on April 12. I thought he was nice, he came in the room and started explaining to me first, about the seriousness of the surgery. He told me that I was twice as likely to die from gastric bypass than open heart surgery! He told me a lot of info, but didn't ask me if I had any questions. I had lots of questions, but I didn't get to ask many. He did spend a lot of time telling about the procedure but I had read so many books and learned so much online, that the questions that I had were specific questions regarding "his" way of doing things. He asked me did I want lap or open, I told him that I wanted whatever he thought was best. He said he would do the procedure, lap. But he also said if it was his wife, he would want her to get it open! That really confused me.

I am so glad that I have been reading other people's journals, so when I felt so "down" the next couple of days, I was not so surprised. It is gonna be a long wait for insurance approval. I am really kind of down but I guess that is expected. There is a lot on my mind. I am NOT going to let the loooong wait on insurance approval drive me crazy. I had planned on start to watch what I eat, exercise, tan, after I saw the docter, but I don't think so.I will wait til I get a date, then cut back on colas and such.

I found Dr. Sherer to be very caring and informative on helping me make my decision to have Gastric Bypass surgery.
I still think he is wonderful!
I found his entire staff to be very caring and supportive.
I do not have any dislikes about my Dr.

I would like them to know that Dr. Sherer will help them with their battle with obesity.
I go to see my Dr. every 3 months.
Yes.

Yes, we discussed the risk of the surgery.

My husband and I met with Dr. Sherer on Dec. 13, 2001. I really liked his mannerisms. He was very easy to talk to. I had many questions and he answered all of them very patiently. I thought his office staff was very nice. Aftercare was discussed. He explained all of the risk to me and decided on which surgery I would rather have. I decided on the Lap. I rate him very high and from what I hear and read many others do as well.

I am home and had surgery and I feel great. Dr. Sherer visited me everyday while there and explained everything to my family after I got out of surgery. He and his staff came in and explained my diet to me as well as what to do when I leave the hospital with somewhat of a program. I also met with a dietitian while in the hospital who explained a lot to me. Well, i guess that is all. I loved Dr. Sherer.

Dr. Sherer did my gall bladder surgery in 1993. He was great then; he's great now! He is very thorough and will answer all your questions and concerns. He gives you the time you need. His office staff is also very impressive. And he has our size chairs in his waiting room!
Post-op: Procedure went very well. Got excellent care. Dr. Sherer, his partners (whom I saw while in the hospital) and his office staff continue to be top-notch! Couldn't ask for better!

My impression of Dr. Sherer was he was very confident in himself and very caring about my weel being. He said he was sorry for keeping me waiting and he would stay with me and answer all my questions until I feel comfortable. His staff is wonderful especially his nurse Susie. Anytime I would call about a question she would get back with me within the same day. When I went for my pre-op visit susie sat down with me for about 45min. and went back thru everything with me step by step. I will be having my surgery Jan 25, 2002 and I will keep everyone posted. I would recommend Dr. Sherer to anyone. VERY GOOD BEDSIDE MANNER The only negative thing I could say about the group is I waited 2 hours past my appointment to see him and I drove 3hrs to his office, so I wasen't to happy about that. He maed up for it, though when we finally got to meet and talk.

I haven't met Dr. Sherer yet, but I am very impressed with his staff. Jan has been very helpful in answering questions(of which I've had many) and the literature they send you is very informative. My first visit is in 11 days!
Others have told me he's an excellent surgeon, and that he has an excellent bedside mannner which is very important to me. I don't want to be treated as a surgery, but as a person.

I am very impressed with Dr.Sherer. i really think he cares about what he's doing. He said his own mother was very obese, and that he thinks most people don't realize how difficult it is. His example was this"think of your excess weight as a 126 pound sack of rocks. Now imagine having to carry that sack around everyday trying to do everything you normally do." I was nearly in tears, he was so understanding. I think he even helped my husband, who has no excess weight at all, to understand why I want to have this done, and why I'm having the physical problems I have.
I AM VERY IMPRESSED!
He doesn't do laps, though for those of you who prefer that.....

Dr. Sherer is great. His nurse Diane is wonderful. She has been so patient and caring. I have nearly been in tears and she has helped so much. Suzy and Jan are both very kind, patient people. All of them have put up with my constant phone calls and questions.

I haven't been very impressed with follow up, as there really is no aftercare program. I've had to ask to have blood tests run. He's a good doc, but needs an aftercare program set up. But this is only my opinion!

Front office staff are very unfriendly. I plan on letting Dr. Sherer know about this, and how badly it reflects on him. Maybe after my 1 year visit. These are just my impressions of these women. Maybe I'm just not their favorite person. LOL
