In my initial meeting with Dr. Sherer, he was very patient and took the time to explain all of the procedures to me. He was very easy to talk to and I am really glad he is going to be my surgeon. I would also like to say that I found his office staff to be very kind and helpful. NOTE: Anyone who expects this doctor to sugarcoat the risks and complications will be in for a surprise. He also is very upfront about what your lifespan could be without the surgery. I found this very refreshing. I want to be told the truth, not a fairy tale version of it, and that is what I got with Dr. Sherer.

I'm having my first consultation with Dr.Sherer on August 15th. I'll post my impressions of him after then.
8/15/01: My husband and I met Dr.Sherer today (after a 1-1/2hour wait). Boy was he running behind, but I should have know better than to schedule an appointment in the middle of the afternoon. Anyway, it was worth the wait. Very gentle and caring doctor. He seemed like he could spend all afternoon talking with us. We got all of our questions answered, and he even kinda appologized to me for being so straight-forward and blunt in answering our questions. Wasn't that nice? I decided on the laproscopic surgery, even though I'll be one of his first couple of lap patients. I still feel good about him doing it. So, now all I have to do is wait on BC/BS to approve. Please keep me in your prayers! ! !

5/26/01 Okay, well I had my consult with Dr. Sherer. I really like him! He was realistic and honest, which goes a long way with me. Most importantly, he was knowledgeable and answered all questions to my satisfaction.

8/3/01 I had my surgery on 7/19, with no complications so far. Dr. Sherer has a great bed-side manner and my family felt at ease with him. I would recommend Dr. Sherer in a heartbeat.

08/02/01 -- I met with Dr. Sherer for the first time today. I was thoroughly impressed and very happy with my choice. After spending the last two and half months in limbo trying to decide whether to have surgery, what type of surgery and what doctor to use -- I knew immediately that I had finally made the right choice by going to him. He spent over an hour with my mother and myself answering all our questions. He asked his staff about my insurance and they confirmed that my insurance was no longer doing predeterminations -- so he scheduled my surgery while I stood there! My mother was also very impressed with him and noted that he treated me with respect! I don't think that I could have made a better choice if I had spent the last year looking!

With my contact being just over the phone so far, the office staff has been wonderful. Also, Dr. Sherer is now doing LAPs starting August 1, 2001.

Dr. Sherer is a very honest and pleasant man speak to, very soft spoken. A family man, who wishes to have more time with his family (he has a beautiful daughter who looks like him). His staff is very professional and friendly. The waiting room is small. All the chairs have arms on them except one bench seat. My overall rating of Dr. Sherer is very high. He took his time with me and my husband. I didn't feel rushed at all. He didn't play it off that this was a very risky surgery. He made sure that I knew exactly just how risky this surgery was... I was VERY impressed with his honesty and personality. I believe him to be a wonderful professional. I will trust him with MY LIFE.

HE IS VERY FRIENDLY AND PATIENT. I FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE AROUND HIM AND I TRUST THAT HE WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF ME

i would just like to add that doctor STAHL is not my doc but he is in the same office as dr. SHERER and he came by to check on me twice. i thought that dr. STAHL was very kind to share his time with someone who is not even his patient.

Dr. Sherer has done two other surgeries on me prior to the bastric bypass, and I like him very much. He is willing to give you whatever time you need to talk to him, and even though he is very professional, he is also very warm. His office staff, Jan, Susy, Diane and Patty are all terrific! Dr. Shere requested that I follow all of his advice, that I start an excercise program and that I go to overeaters anonymous. I have done all but the last, which I substituted with a support group instead. At first, I wanted more specific aftercare advice, but now I realize that this experience is unique. From talking to other patients of Dr. Sherer's as well as other surgeon's patients, I realize that what foods you can tolerate well is very individualized. I would encourage anyone doing this to join a support group, because they have already been through it all and their advice is GOLD! I prefer a doctor who has both competence and personality, so Dr. Sherer worked well for me.One thing I loved was that I had no sutures to remove-all of the sutures were inside!

Dr. Sherer seemed to be real nice and a believer in the Lord above. (A huge plus for me)He was really great through the whole thing. His staff was very friendly. And helped in all ways.I liked everything about Dr. Sherer he explained thing to me and the staff took care of the insurance. It went real fast...I have to go back in 2 months to check aboutvit. shots ect.He wanted me to know all about the risk. They send out a packet that explains everything to you then they are there to answer any questions you also.I couldn't ask for a better doctor.
Both are great.I must say that this was what my case was therefore all the views above pretain to me...

3/8/01 (Thurs)- Dr. Sherer is so nice. His staff as well was very polite and seemed caring. Dr. Sherer stated several times that this is not a cure but an aid in the fight of obesity. He stated that this helps the physical part of losing weight but that there is still the mental part of obesity and how we view food. He offered information on a local support group to help with this. He really stressed the aftercare as well. He said that is another key to the success of the surgery. I was very pleased with him.

I first met Dr. Sherer on Jan. 30. My husband and I were both very impressed with him. He was kind and considerate. He answered all of my questions thoroughly. The main thing we liked was that he said the results were basically in God's hands. It is not often that you find a doctor who will mention God, and it really encouraged me. Dr. Sherer also said that he believed himself to be a very good surgeon. He sounded very competent but not conceited. Right now I am waiting on insurance approval. I feel confident that Dr. Sherer will do a great job when the time comes.
