Well, on June 13th I seen Dr. Luttrell for the first time. I had an easy time finding his office and showed up about an hour early. OOPS! Well I had to wait for 2 hours to see him, but part of that was because I was so early. When I got to the office, I was told to go to a window and the woman told me about payment and was really nice. After I finally got to the back I waited again and finally got to see Dr. Luttrell, He was very nice and would look you in the eye when he was talking to you. I like that alot. He never mentioned after care, but focused alot on the risk of surgery and we talked alot how life would change. He did focus on insurance alot and how they would or would not pay and told me about a cash plan, and that most insurance companies do not accept with an appeal. But overall I did like him alot and I am waiting on a approval from my insurance now. He dictated a letter right then and I was told by Mary that she would let me know and to contact my insurance company this Friday (June 29th) I am so nervous. I am so scard they are going to say no even though my insurance book says it will if a medical necessity.
WEll it is 7-2-01 and my insurance approved me. I just called the Dr office and talked to Mary. She told me that she would call my insurance and let me know about what I had to prepay if any. She will let me have a schedule date as soon as she talks to my insurance. I am so excited and they have been so helpful. I guess Dr. Luttrell's letter worked I got approved in less than 10 working days. I found out my letter wasn't even mailed till the 19th. I will write more when I get a date.
I got a call from Mae telling me about my pre testing schedule it is a hectic one! I go on August 16th to have my Upper GI at 9:15 and I have my blood work at 11:00. I can guarantee I will see some kind of food by then. I will be able to eat the hospital. I am still excited!
I went to meet with Dr. Luttrell on Wednesday, June 13. I was SO nervous. Dr. Luttrell was very nice and informative. His staff impressed me. He gave me lots of hope. He says that he hasn't ever worked with my particular insurance company, but that he hasn't EVER gotten a denial when the patient has sleep apnea. It sure got my hopes up, hope I don't tumble to the ground. The letter was sent off to my insurance company today the 19th, so we'll see how it turns out. Pray for me please.
I had my 1st meeting with Dr. Luttrell this week. I was very impressed. He took time to explain the entire surgery & answered all of my questions. He explained all of the risks & benefits --- he also made me feel alot more at ease about having the surgery.
He was very sweet & confident. After just meeting him i knew he was definitely the doc for me :) His staff was great as well. They were right on top of things, in fact they called me the next morning after my appt to ask me some questions so they could get all the info mailed to the insurance. They all were soo sweet & understanding as well. I highly recommend Dr Luttrell to anyone wanting to have this surgery.
I have not met him yet I will see him may 1,2001. I have heard nothing but good things about him . I work at Baptist health on the heart floor , Very good comment about him. Will answer the other question after seeing .

One thing that surprise me was him makingme very aware of all the things that could go wrong. I was wondering if that was just to make you think about the down side instead of allthe great things. He didn't chane my mind. I just know he knows what he doing.

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY DR. LUTTRELL AS WELL AS HIS STAFF. HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE ABOUT ALL AREAS OF THE SURGERY, AS WELL AS POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS FROM THE REVISION.I WAS VERY IMPRESSED THAT HE IS HAVING DR. OZMENT (MY SURGEON)FROM 1979TO ASSIST HIM. I BELIEVE I AM IN VERY GOOD HANDS WITH THESE TWO DRS. AND GOD ON MY SIDE.
I have met with Dr. Luttrell one time. I found him very matter of fact, very direct and up front about the risks and complications of revision wls. His office staff has been very helpful and kind, and have returned my calls in a very timely manner.
To have a competent surgeon with a personality would be great, but competency is an absolute must.
I have to say the Dr. Luttrell's nurse Mei, and Sandra who does the insurance and billing, are the absolute best. None of my calls have gone unreturned, none of my questions are too silly. They undoubtedly have patience for days, and are always very kind.
I was very impressed with his manner the first time I saw him. My impression was only reenforced over time.
His staff is very supportive. They answered all pre and post questions quickly and gladly.
There was nothing that I did not like.
There is no onsite after care program as such but he and his staff are very supportive post op. I belong to a support group online.
The risks were explained as well as the procedure itself.
I give him a 10. He is competent, caring and supportive. What more could you ask for?
I know this sounds too good to be true but I really have nothing negative to report.
Today is January 23, 2001. I finally met Dr. Luttrell today. He has done 500 surgery's so far. I told him I was type 1 diabetic and he proceeded to tell me I would probably be able to get off all diabetic meds. I then explained I have the most severe form of diabetes, and then he proceeded to tell me how he will be able to get a endocrinolgist to assist in regulating my insulin.
I was a little leary of him at first, but the more I talked to him and his staff the better I felt about the whole thing.
