As a RN, I had previously worked with Dr. Luttrell in the Operating Room so I already had respect for his ability as a surgeon. He has one of the best bedside manners that you will ever encounter with a surgeon. He listens to you, makes wonderful suggestions, encourages you in everything you are trying to do, his staff is wonderful as well. They are always available to you for questions or concerns. I have never had to wait for an appointment, Dr. Luttrell is very good about staying on time for his appointments. Of course there is always a chance of an emergency. His inservices prior to surgery are very informative and easy for everyone to understand. He attends every inservice and answers any questions that anyone may have.rnrnShould you choose to go with Dr. Luttrell, you will have absolutely no regrets. He is an excellent surgeon, has compassion for his patients, is tolerant, has an excellent staff and I just cannot say enough good things about my entire experience at this clinic.
I was really impressed with him. He answered every question I or other patients in the semianar had. He really explains everything to you and your spouse very well and wants you to be very sure this is your only option before you do this. His office staff is very friendly. I felt very comfortable with him and his staff. He really stresses everything that you need to do before and after surgeory. He gives you every risk of the surgeory. He really stresses that if you can not follow his instructions then you do not need this program.
Dr Luttrell is very nice and has a great smile. He takes the time to answer my questions and is very interested in my progress. The office staff seem to know exactly who you are when you call for anything. Aftercare is important and compliance is a big issue. For me surgical competence is the biggest factor then beside manner, but both together is the best.
The first time that I met Dr. Luttrell I found him to be very open and knowledgable regarding any questions or concerns that I had regarding surgery. My opinion has remained the same throughout my surgical experience. The staff in thie clinic as well as his group of \"helper bee\" in the OR were all warm and caring---any question or concern was always addressed in a timely manner!!!rnrnOne of the things that needs to be stressed regarding Preop time---you have a 2 week window that you are to be faithful to a Protien shake diet---2 meals a day followed by a light meal. The importance of this aspect of this period needs to really be stressed. I travel for work so it was sometimes challanging to do the 2 shakes a day---but somehow I managed. If I had not followed this routine and when they went in for my operation---they may have had to stop the procedure because of a \"fatty Liver\"----these things are very friable and bleed very easily. Therefore can lead to increase risks that could have been avoided my following your physicians orders.rnrnAfter care involves progressing your diet---at an established interval---I used to be a diet coke freak!!!! My sister in law (who also is a nurse) was drinking a diet coke in the car as she was taking me home after surgery----I took a swig-----WRONG answer!!!! Needless to say---we had to pull over for me to get rid of the bubbles!!!! Follow the plan that they have outlined for you----other people have done the \"trial and error\" aspect of this for you.....follow what they ask. Weeks 1-2 you are on a liquid diet, then you progress up to semisolids and then back to real foods---you will learn what things you can eat and what you can't eat!!!rnrnI think Dr. Luttrell is the best!!! He is intelligent, compassionate and can carry on a conversation.....I've worked with MD's all my life and many of them are so focused on their abilities and careers that the bedside manner is a lost art. Dr. Luttrell is all in one!!!
Dr. Luttrell was wonderful! He is very nice and completely understands how obesity affects people. He took the time to listen to me and answer all of my questions. He made me understand that it was not my fault that the VBG had failed. He thinks of the patients best insterest. He did an excellent job on my surgery, especially since I had so much scar tissue from a failed VBG 9 years ago. He was willing to try to do the surgery to give me a second chance at a normal life. I had gained all the weight back from the failed VBG and I was developing life threatening conditions. I am back on the health track with the Lap-Band procedure. His office staff is wonderful too. They always answered my questions and responded quickly to my phone calls. I can't say enough about how much Dr. Luttrell has saved my life. I have already recommended him to several friends. I am 3 days post-op today (12-29-06).

My first impression of Dr. Luttrell was that he knew what he was doing. He comes across as very educated and confident in his ability to perform the surgery. I really liked that in him. My husband met him with me and he liked the guy too.
At the surgical center, I really don't remember much of seeing him...lol. I was pretty drugged up and just in happy land.
I went back for my check-up 5 weeks after the surgery. I really liked talking to him then. He keeps constant eye contact, which I love. He's very attentive and more than eager to listen to everything you have to say.
I really feel like he has one of the best "bedside manners" of any doctor I've ever met. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
There really are not enough words to describe my experience with Dr. Luttrell. The moment that I met him my mind was completely at ease. He answered every question that I had. I remember that first visit so vividly. He seemed to really understand what I was feeling and he really tried to explain everything in a way that I could understand. He didn't seem to hold anything back, he just told me exactly how it is. He told me everything that would be done step by step. The day of the surgery is a day that I will never forget. The last thing I remember is when he came into the operating room and ask me "Are you ready to get this done?" He took any last minute fears that I had and made them disappear. I can never say thank you to him enough. He truly helped me to get my life back. I had to call the office about a week after being discharged from the hospital, They returned my call within 30 minutes. The staff seemed to be really caring and non-judgemental. As you konw so many people lok down on extremely overweight people but that just didn't seem to be the case at Dr. Luttrell's office. As to rating Dr. Luttrell I would give him more than a 10 it I could. I really have nothing negative to say because if I did it would have to be a lie. I know that some people have problems but I believe if you go into this surgery with an open mind and a positive attitude, it will be a positive thing for you too. I went into this not believing that this was going to be a magical cure for my obesity. Just because my stomach was smaller didn't mean that my mind didn't still want to eat like before. It has been over 3 years and I can honestly say that there are days that I would love to be able to eat like before but all I have to do is look in the mirror and ask myself "just how good was that pizza?" It was not good enough for me to risk weighing 275 lbs again. So there you go, my take on gastric bypass surgery. I truly was worth everything to me.
Dr. Rex Luttrell in Little Rock, AR. performed my Adjustable Laparoscopic Gastric Band surgery on 26 January 2005 and I have lost a total of 43 lbs. as of 22 Sept 2005 and a total of 34 inches off my body. I also suffer from Diabetes Mellitus II, and have been able to decrease my medications substantially. I have decreased my daily glynase dosage from 6 mg to 1.5 and my daily glucophage dosage from 2000 mg to 1000 mg, my hA1c results came back 5.1, no sugar highs or lows. My usual hA1c is 5.9 with many highs and lows throughout the 90 day time period. I now feel that I will actually be able to get off these oral medications, and finally be able to achieve my desired goal weight. I feel fantastic, and I am positively astonished at the results of this procedure. I honestly view this Lap-Band as a gift, and couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon. The surgery was easy, minimally invasive, and the recovery short. I was fortunate not to have any complications or side effects, and a terrific doctor, whom I believe, genuinely cares about the “PEOPLE” who are his patients.
THE ONLY THING I COULD SAY ABOUT DR. LUTTRELL IS THAT HE HAS TO BE THE BEST DOCTOR I HAVE EVER SEEN. HE IS VERY HONEST AND STRAIGHT FORWARD ABOUT THE PROS AND CONS OF HAVING GASTRIC BY PASS SURGERY. HE HAS TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF ME. HIS STAFF TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. IF I HAD THE SURGERY TO DO OVER AGAIN I WOULDN'T TRUST ANYONE OTHER THAN DR.LUTTRELL AND HIS STAFF. DR.LUTTRELL IS A RARE KIND OF DOCTOR BECAUSE HE CARES ABOUT HIS PATIENTS. HE ALSO SPENDS TIME WITH YOU ANSWERING ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE IN DETAIL AND HE NEVER ACTS AS THOUGH HE IS IN A HURRY , ALTHOUGH HE IS AN EXTREMELY BUSY MAN. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN HERE FOR ME WHEN EVER I NEEDED HIM NO MATTER THE TIME OF DAY. FOR ANYONE SEEKING A GREAT SURGEON I FEEL THAT DR REX E LUTTRELL IS YOUR MAN.
