When I called the office for a consultation, I was told there was a three month wait but that other surgeons in his office could see me sooner. I made an appointment with Dr. Kelly Francis for 3 weeks later. During the time awaiting my consultation, I met with Smart Dimensions for a 2-hour orientation class on the various bariatric surgeries. I also took a 2-hour nutrition class on changes after my surgery. I had a one hour psych evaluation. My surgery was done by Dr. Francis with Dr. LePort as backup. The office staff was very helpful over the phone and in the office. I did not like the fact that you may have to wait a long time even though you had an appointment (but most doctor's offices are like this). My aftercare program has been great including phone calls with questions or immediate appointment when I fell at home. I cannot state enough great things about Dr. Francis (her personal attention, warm smile, great information, in-depth discussions about all areas of the surgery, surgical competence and great bedside manner). I also felt that Smart Dimensions was very helpful with all the paperwork explaining the risks of surgery and keeping in touch with me from the hospital til I went back to work.
It took me several months of waiting to finally get in to see Dr Leport. Once in his office we waited for over an hour to see a physicians assistant. After she "interviewed" me I was told that Dr Leport was running late and they wanted to re-schedule me. I insisted on waiting, and after approx another 30 minutes he took me in. Obviously a very busy office! The Dr was professional but brief, offered to answer any questions, gave what was obviously a "canned" speech, then a quick look at me.
He related the risks of surgery, but did not explain lap vs open, aftercare, or many other detailed topics. Luckily I had done some research and been to a support group so I wasn't totally uninformed.
I suggest having a comprehensive list of questions w/ you (and plenty of time on your hands).
My first impression of Dr. LePort, MD. was that I knew my PCP/PMG had picked the right man for the job. The feeling of support, confidence, and experience was there from the moment I walk through the Lite Dimension doors. I'am looking so forward to my surgery on 12/04/02 at 12:30PM. Good Luck to me, and to all that have decided to live a healthier life.
I first met Dr. LePort about a week before my surgery, since I live outside the area. I'd been referred by a Dr. close to where I live whom I trust, and I'm so glad that I went to Dr. LePort! He has a calm demeanor, and I felt full confidence in him immediately. I felt he fully informed me of the risks of the surgery, and what he planned to do (open Rouxn-Y, because of previous open gall bladder surgery). And I'm very pleased with my incision line...very neat and about 7" long.
The only thing I wish the staff had let me know ahead of time, was that my urine would be colored green post-op because of the contrast used to check that the surgery site was successfully intact. Otherwise, the staff was wonderful about informing me of all to expect.
The menu plan is very clear and specific for post-op, and also they had a protein powder supplement available (ProCell) to buy, although I can now order it cheaper directly from the company.
I feel Dr. LePort's surgical competence and his bedside manner are both wonderful. I have nothing to say negative about him.
Dr Leport is the best. He is an excellent surgeon, as evidenced by my complete lack of complications. He is not a huggable hand holder however. He is a very nice, very busy man. My followup has been with one of his associates, Dr Francis, whom I adore. I would recommend Dr LePort, or any of his associates, to anyone. It was all a positive experience.
My first impression of Dr. LePort was that he was a no nonsense type of person, which I liked very much. He laid out the facts and listened to and answered my questions. I felt confident in him and now post op feel the same way. I was set for surgery on 8/27/02 and was in the pre op room when Dr. LePort informed me he was not going to do surgery that day as my thyroid readings were not where they should be, though disappointed (greatly) I again saw his desire to do everything possible to get me the best outcome. My surgery was a month later.
His staff has been wonderful, from Vanessa doing all the paperwork to Dee-Dee's uplifting visits while in the hospital.
The support group on Thursday nights have been my lifeline and I would suggest anyone considering this surgery to attend a few. I am anxiously awaiting the next one tomorrow so I can get some information on the liquid and soft food diets. I thought I knew it all but now that I am in it I have some questions. Though I know I could call the doctors office it is the people that have walked the road before me that can give me the wisdom of their experiences.
I would recommend Dr LePort to anyone considering this surgery.
Dr. LePort was very nice. I never felt rushed while in his office. He answered all of my questions and told me to call him anytime if I had any more. He was very detailed in his explanation of the surgery process and wanted to make sure that I understood what to expect. He also let me know that he supplies the tool, I do the work. He made me feel very comfortable and I look forward to having him be my surgeon.
