I did not meet Dr Coates until the day after surgery. I have not seen him since surgery. I meet with his PA Diane. She is great. Very encouraging. Everyone in the office is upbeat. rnThey answer all my questions. I went to all the post and pre educational meetings concerning my surgery and felt very confident in my understanding of the procedure, the risks and benefits. I feel all staff members I have had contact with has my best interest at heart. I am more concerned with surgical competence than bedside manner.
I must say I met Dr. Coates a week before my surgery and I felt very comfortable with him, he's the talk of the town and sure delivers. I had my surgery on 11/7/7 and I was very nervous. I had my surgery everything went well, he even speaks a little Spanish :) At my pre-op appt, he was very honest and up front. Future patients need to feel confident that they are in good hands. They have a lot of aftercare information and believe me before you're going into surgery, you have a great idea as to what to expect. I think both are great! He's a pretty laid back kind of man, THAT REALLY KNOWS HIS JOB, AND THE BEDISE MANNER WAS GREAT!!! I'm very happy and i thank God for Dr. Coates. If you have been considering having the Roux & Y surgery and have any questions or concerns, don't wait. Give his office a call, they're very friendly and very knowleadgeable. tell them Nora sent yourn
This is MY pre-op experience so far (surgery scheduled for 10/11/07.)rnrnIN SUMMARY: I would recommend Dr Coates if you are pro-active and willing to follow-up w/the office staff and a close relationship w/the surgeon isn't important to you. Pre-op education is great.rnrnIN DETAIL: The whole process from going to the first seminar to getting approved felt a little like an assembly line. The office staff is friendly and were helpful but only after a little prodding from me. I have never received a single follow-up call; they'd say they would call back but never would. They also mis-placed paperwork twice. I called and they claimed they hadn't received it. I confirmed it had been sent and, after further searching, the office staff found it. rnrnI was told I couldn't meet Dr Coates until my pre-op appointment. I think it would be hard to choose a surgeon without meeting him/her face to face first. Luckily, Dr Coates had assisted on my back surgery a few years ago and I had a chance to meet him then. (I really liked him; friendly and straight forward.) If it hadn't been for the prior meeting, I would have looked for a more accessible Dr. My final decision to go w/Dr. Coates was based on his skill/high success rate.rnrnThe pre-op education conducted by Memorial Hospital Health Group is really good.rnrn
I officially met Dr. Coates on Friday, July 20, 06 for my pre-op appointment. He was very down to earth and listen to my concerns. He advise me of the risk with the surgery but he made me comfortable with him performing the surgery. Due to a previous surgery I had performed he advise me that he will have to take a little longer for the procedure. The office staff are great! we had a wonderful time.
