I was very lucky because I got to meet Dr. Coates at my pre-op appointment. He was very kind, very thorough, and treated me like a person rather than just a patient.
The day of surgery, he was encouraging and supportive, and helped to put me at ease in the OR by joking around with me and the nurses.
He visited me twice while I was in the hospital, and was very positive and encouraging then, too. I feel like I made a really good choice with Dr. Coates.
Since my surgery, I've had to have my gall bladder removed. Dr. Coates was, again, very thorough and kind. He explained the procedure to us, even drew a diagram, and spoke with my family afterward, showing them a picture of my gall bladder full of stones. I just can't say enough good things about Dr. Coates.
I really like Dr. Coates personality, and he was very down to earth. I did not get to meet him til the day of surgery, but I was immediately assured that I was in good hands. His office staff was great!! Very nice and always very informative!! Dr. Coates seems very dedicated to my after-care and has shown me a "genuine" interest in my best interest. He stresses to ALWAYS call if I ever needed anything, and also to attend as many support groups as I could.... I actually DID have some complications during surgery, and had to receive 4 units of blood, but I felt very safe with his judgement. He rates a 10+ on my scale!! He was very well rounded during surgery as well as with his bedside manner and aftercare!! I would recommend him to anyone interested in this surgery!!
My God - this man is the MOST AMAZING SURGEON ...rnrnHis office staff are extremely friendly .. He and his PA's are very informative and have a GREAT BEDSIDE MANNER ...rnrnI immediately trusted and felt safe with Dr. Coates ... In the Modesto community - he is known for this surgery, and his success rate.rnrnThanks Dr. Coates - and your STAFF.rn
I think Dr. Coates is a really caring person. His office staff is competent and caring. They stress the importance of aftercare including regular lab tests, office visits and the use of support groups.(I personally hate support groups but understand their value) The surgical risk were stressed in the pre-op surgical class and in the educational literature.rnrnI think Dr. Coates has wonderful support staff to take care of all the \"details\" so that he can do what he does best...Surgery!
What can I say about Dr. Coates? I went to him because a girl I worked with did her surgery. I can't really say anything about him. I met him once before I went into surgery and havent seen him since.LOLrnThe staff has been friendly so far. Ive only had to deal with them for a month now. But I would say they're proffesional enough I guess. Some of the girls at the front desk can use some phone ettiquette (sorry I spelt wrong)But overall I dont worry about people and their lack of mannerism.
I had my surgery on July 30th, 2009. I had met with Dr. Coates once before the surgery and then again right before I went in. I'm told that he came by my room after the surgery, however I dont remember it. I like him very much. Seems very confident in his ability, so that puts you at ease. I have no complaints about him at all. His office staff has always been very helpful and really nice.rnAfter care is important to this Dr and his staff.rnIf I had to say something negative about him, well, I dont really have anything negative to say.
Dr.Coates is a very good surgeon.I actually didn't meet him till the day of surgery. That was fine bacause he has a great med staff behind him. They're great people, they've mad me feel so at home whem I'm in the office.Dr.Coates and his staff make sure that they give all the education you need before you have your surgery. They tell you as long as you follow what they're program wants you to,the program will work.I'm so happy about the whole experience and I wouldn't change a thing.
I first met him at a seminar that you have to do before they consider you for surgery. Never saw him again until day of surgery. He was a cheerful person and answered all my question. After hearing others comment about him I knew what to expect. His office staff is the greatest. The doctor came to see me prior to the surgery. I saw the doctor twice after the surgery while in the hospital. I think that's a record.
I had the experience of being under the care of both Dr. Coates and Dr. Coirin. Both were great to me. Of course, like everyone else, I saw Dr. Coates at the seminar, and then again just prior to my surgery. The support staff is great. Diane (PA) always takes as much time as needed to answer all my questions and address my concerns. Monica(PA) was so nice and came to see me each day I was in the hospital and checked on me. I did not see Dr. Coates while I was in the hospital nor at my post ops so far, and I am assuming I never will unless something extreme happens. A day after I was released, I had developed a bowel obstruction from an incisional hernia buring the surgery. For this, I was treated by Dr. Coirin who was on call for Dr. Coates. Although it was the first time I met him, I was very impressed with him and he was so nice. He did my surgery at about 10PM because I was so sick and in pain. The next morning I was visit by both Monica and Dr. Coirin. I am very pleased with my care. Aftercare is definitely an area of emphasis. There is ongoing support in the form of nutrition classes and support groups. The nutrition classes are required and I think that is nice, because it makes us more accountable.
