I was quite nervous so it was difficult for me at the initial consultation. I felt this was all routine for him and he would'nt know me from another patient. He soon put me at ease and I felt confident that all would go well...and it did. My best friend accompanied me and he did her surgery 9 months earlier. He remembered her. That made me feel good.
The more I saw of Dr. M. the more I liked him. I was surprised at how much he remembered about me when I came back for my check ups.
I find the people who work at the Ypsilanti BTC to be very friendly and caring. If I lived closer I would like to work there.
I don't have any negative feelings about Dr. Marymor.
Patients should expect Dr. M. to be straight forward and confident. He is easy to talk to.
I don't really remember much about discussing after care with Dr. M. personally, however the BTC has a very structured program which tells us what to eat and when to eat it. I went from clear liquids to full liquids to pureed foods to soft foods to, finally, real food. The real food came in 6 weeks. I followed the program and was afraid not to. The dietician called me at each scheduled interval of the healing period to discuss my food. I could call any time I had a question.
The nurses and care givers help us in every way. They don't do things for us, but help us through verbal guidance to do what we need to do.
I was made aware of the risks and they made me nervous, but not nervous enough to change my mind. I figure I was at a higher risk by staying obese.
Dr. M. is a highly skilled doctor and knows what he is doing. He is committed to his work and I even saw him there at night in jeans and a T shirt when one of his patients was having problems. (He will head the new facility in Philly, PA.)
I think bedside manner is very important; almost as important as surgical compeitence.
This was a very positive experience for me and I don't have anything negative to say. Sure, I was in pain and I didn't want to do what I was told, but I did EXACTLY what I was told and had a good recovery with almost no side effects. No nausea, vomiting, hair loss and only one incident of "dumping" from eating something with too much sugar...my own fault.
He was willing to answer any questions I might have regarding surgery and wanted to be sure I thought I was making the right decision. He wasn't overly friendly, but wasn't abrubt and cool about it either. I think I concerned him because I didn't really have any questions about the surgery. I knew I wanted to have it done and I really didn't want to "know" anything. I had answered most of my questions before I got there. He wanted to be sure I understood the procedure, the risks invovled, and that is wasn't a guarantee to lose all the weight, that I would have to make some effort too, by following the nutrition program and get started exercising-at least walking. The staff was very helpful and pleasant.
He is very big on aftercare. He stressed the importance of following the "rules" as set forth in the binder we receive. I was very impressed by his bedside manner. He came in after my surgery to check on me and he was the first one to change the bandages and look over the incision, which the nurses commented he was known for doing. I had heard stories of how incisions had opened up or other complications, but I had no such problem. My incision is smooth in a lot of places, never opened up or really hurt. When I saw him my last visit, I was basically in awe of him for giving me this new life. I have a great respect for him and the talent God gave him to help out people in my situation.
Dr. Neil Marymor at first did not impress me.
But after my surgery when I go to know him better, it all changed. He is a very kind man, who listens and never makes you feel dumb for asking too many questions.
The staff was super, I have never been to a place like this were you feel so comfortable.
I recommend Dr. Marymor !!!
The BTC has fantastic afterwards care. They take really good care of you.
They also have support groups.
Dr. Marymor was up front and honest about all the good and the bad that could happen.
I give him 100+ gold stars. He has the surgical know how, the great bedside manner ( this is rare for most surgeons ) He cares.
well my 1 st impression of Dr.Marymore was that he seemed like he knew what he was doing and I could trust him and then I had to have a re-evaluate with him this year, 2 weeks before my surgery, that impression well I can honestly say he scared the crap out of me.One thing I can say about this man is that he is very honest and upfront with everything he tells you when you ask him a question and I really apreatiate that! he made me really think the last 2 weeks about if this is what I really wanted for my self and I thank him for it.After the surgery he was wonderful doing things for me that I thought was the nurses responsiby but he got right in there and changed my dressing and was telling me how to do this and that...a real down to earth man and a WONDERFUL doctor
GODBLESS YOU NEIL MARYMOR
I met Dr. Marymor last year when my wife was checking into her surgery and was impresed with his approach. He has a very caring attiude and was informitive to any questions or concerns we had. I have no problems reconmending him. BTC's approach is second to none with the whole package from preop to follow up.
First impression of him, Hmmmm, very handsome, polite, helpful. He was very informative. My impression hasnt really had time to change. His staff, one woman was really rude and after talking with other patients they sat she is the 1st time you come up then is nice later. Hopefully this is true, because I can be just, if not more rude than she can. I have a teenager and a toddler. I get lots of practice. Least liked that he was going on vacation. It was Easter weekend so I guess it was acceptable. He very much emphasizes aftercare. He has an aftercare program. He addressed the risks of surgery in a very blunt and realistic way. No bs, just straight answers. Right now I would rate him an 8, If my surgery goes great then I will up him to a 10. I have high hopes for him.Surgical competence is more important to me. I want to make sure he knows what he is doing. If his bedside manner is highly rated then that is a plus. Its not often you get both in one doc.
My first impression was an excellent one. He was middle age, nice looking, and very friendly. When he entered the room, he shook my hand and then my husbands. He sat down and started my consultaion.
The office staff was pleasant. I felt pretty comfortable being there.
There wasn't anything off hand that I can think of that upset me or disappointed me with the whole experience.
He was extremely nice and very to the point. He did not sugar coat anything.
Aftercare was very important to him and his staff.
They have a well structured aftercare program.
He told my husband and I every possible risk you can think of. He did not hold anything back.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give him a 9 just for the simple fact that he was so blunt and informative, yet very friendly.
I would say that both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
Very personable at our first meeting. Seemed very interested in my weight loss journey and my support network and aftercare.
Overall he seems very qualified and experienced.
I would have found it helpful if he had his own webpage regarding # of surgeries performed, education, etc.
POST OP OPINNION
Dr. Marymor is an excellent surgeon. He takes extreme care in dealing with his patients. He has excellent bedside manner and is very personable. Unlike most patients I had some unforseen complications with my incision 2 weeks after my surgery. Dr. Marymor was very concerned and took time out of his schedule to see me (rather than have the PA take care of me). I was very impressed with the care I received from him. My mother (who is in the healthcare profession) was also very impressed with Dr. Marymor (it takes A LOT to impress my mom). I would reccomend him HIGHLY!
I was more than happy with Dr. Marymor. He was kind and compassionate and always made sure my questions were answered. He checked in on me both morning and night and even did his own dressing changes. I would highly recommend him as a surgeon. He outlined an aftercare program and was very encouraging.
I went for my first consult with him on 3/6. I think he was disappointed because I didn't ask alot of questions. I was under the assumption that this meeting was just that. A meeting for myself and the good doctor to get aquainted. I had been through the consult with the dr. at the BTC in Columbus. He was very informative to my friend that went with me. I was impressed with his manner. He informed me of how surgery would go and after how I would feel and things that would change. He also let me know of the risks. His office staff I was not thrilled with. The scheduler was a tad rude in my opinion. My friend thought so to. I already have the approval of my ins.company, and evidently this puts a curve in her otherwise straight day. My head of human resources took it upon herself, knowing how depressed I was after the 2nd denial after being approved, to push the approval through on our new policy. I did not even know that she had, and this confused the scheduler. But as long as she gets it worked out and there are no problems, and my surgery gets scheduled in a timely manner, well then alls well. They gave a time limit on the approval. The limit is up as of March 31, 2002. She says she will talk with them because the dr. is on vacation that week and can do it a week or 2 later. Hopefully I have a date in early April.. I think maybe she was just having a bad day. And my having an approval before seeing the dr. had made things different for her. I have to go to the BTC in Michigan because the one in Ohio doesn't accept my new ins. otherwise it would have been ok. and i would be haveing surgery in a couple of weeks. But it's all good.
