When I went to the BTC for my consultation visit, my friend, Dana went with me. I wanted another set of ears there, in case I forgot anything. We went over the questions I/she wanted answered. Dr. Marymor seemed very professional when he came into the room. He made me very comfortable in talking with us about the surgery as far as the pro's and con's. I was thinking about having the surgery before I met Dr. Marymor, but after leaving the facility and speaking with Dr. Marymor and his staff, I knew I was at the right place.
One of the things that drew me to BTC is that this is the only thing they do. I don't have to worry about the surgeon having to hurry up and complete my surgery and then fix someone's broken leg, etc. This is Dr. Marymor's specialty, and I feel very comfortable and confident that he will do everything in his power to make this a positive change in my life!
Dr. Marymor along with his staff, from the get go, suggested strongly I attend the support group meetings held at their facility. I had every intention of attending last months meeting, however, I was not approved by my insurance company at that time and didn't feel it would be in my best interest to attend the meeting, as it is 1 1/2 hours away from my home. Of course, now that I've been approved, I wish I could go back again and have attended that meeting, but I can assure you that their next meeting that's scheduled for next week, I'll be sitting in the front row, not wanting to miss a thing!
I would, without hesitation, rate Dr. Marymor and the staff at BTC in Langhorne with a 10++++. They made me feel very comfortable. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all, walking in for the appointment, asking all of the questions I did to them, etc. They made me feel very warm, were willing to share their individuals stories with me..which made my decision to move forward with that center even more exciting! I wanted to know where I had to sign on the dotted line to schedule my surgery by the time I was leaving the consultation!
I can only share my personal experience with the BTC at this point, and I have not one negative thing to say about them...they've been very informative and helpful in every aspect of this process!!!!
My first impression of Dr. Marymor was definately a good one. He was very professional and informative. He took his time explaining all of the pros and cons of the open RNY. This being my first surgery, I was very nervous, but he explained everything from pre-op to post-op and really put me at ease. He told me of their support groups as well as support lines to help the transition into this new lifestyle an easy one. I was also very impressed by his staff who were just as informatve and compassionate as Dr. Marymor himself.
Dr Marymor seemed very concerned about my needs for surgery although his personality was not bubbly, he did get right to business explaining the surgery and primarily the complications that could possibly go with the surgery. He was very informative and did not leed me to belive that the surgery or recovery would be "flowery" but that it was a big commitment. The surgical center in Langhorne is prepaired to take you on the journey all the way!
MY INTIAL CONSULTATION WAS ON MARCH 20,2002,AT BTC. THE STAFF THERE WERE VERY PLEASANT AND MADE ME FEEL VERY WELCOME. DR NEIL MARYMORE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN DETAIL. EVERY PRO AND CON,HE SHOWED ME VISUAL PORTRAITS OF THE SURGERY,AND EXPLAINED EVERY DETAIL IT TOOK IN ORDER TO HAVE SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS.HE WAS QUICK TO ANSWER ANY CONCERNS THAT I HAD HAD.FOLLOWING THE SESSION WIH HIM I WENT TO SPEAK WITH THE OFFICE MANAGER. SHE PROCEEDED TO TAKE A DIGITAL PHOTO OF ME FOR THEIR RECORDS.I'M ASSUMING THIS WAS FOR THE BEFORE AND AFTER PROCESS.SHE THEN SHOWED ME THAT SHE HAD HAD THE SURGERY.SHE SHOWED ME BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF HERSELF.SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS HAVING HER PLASTIC SURGERY DONE WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THAT IT WAS APPROVED BY HER INSURANCE COMPANY.THEY ASSURED ME THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ALL THE PAPER WORK THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY NEEDED.IT IS NOW FEB.18,2003.I'VE BEEN APPROVED SINCE OCT.19,2002,A MONTH BEFORE THEY OPENED IN LANGHORNE,PA..I HAVE HAD EVERYTHING COMPLETED.I'M JUST WAITING FOR A SCHEDULE DATE.THEY TOLD ME ALONG WITH MANY OTHER EXCUSES THAT MY INSURANCE IS OUT OF NETWORK. I HAVE BLUECROSS/BLUESHIELD PERSONAL CHOICE PPO. FIRST THEY SAID MY INSURANCE REQUIRED THEM TO HAVE 25 SURGERIES BEFORE THEY COULD COMPLETE MINE.THEN THERE WAS SOME KIND OF NUMBER THEY NEEDED TO HAVE TO OPERATE THE FACILITY.I CALLED THE INSURANCE CO.TO FIND OUT WHAT THE HOLD UP WAS,THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING WAS SET AND THEY WERE WAITING FOR BTC TO SET A DATE AND PERFORM THE SURGERY.AT THIS POINT IT WAS OUT OF THEIR HANDS THEY WERE WAITING LIKE I AM.I HAD ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE APPROVAL EXPIRING. HE REASSURED ME THAT AS LONG AS THEY HAD APPROVED IT THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK.I THINK I HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT HERE MARCH THE 20th!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOO TIRED. TIRED OF CALLING AND GETTING YET ANOTHER EXCUSE.I MADE A APPOINTMENT WITH DR. BARRY MANN AT MCP FOR JULY 2,2003. IF I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING FROM BTC BY JUNE I GUESS IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE DONE THERE.
He was very presise and direct about the procedure and risks. He answered all questions honestly and seems to be very knowledgable about the process and expectations.
He is very professional, not to mention a real hottie....
The people at BTC in Langhorne were all very nice and helpful, they treat you with respect and some were actually very funny...joking to put me at ease...
He was well-dressed and clean-cut. He wore bright jade green scrubs with a white coat. I thougt "this is an up-beat person".
When we had the initial interview and I asked him why he had chosen bariatric surgery as his specialty, he said "that's what we do here". Where was the passion? But he seemed to be competent in the information he gave me, so I just thought, well, I guess he's rather dry.
I would have liked him to laugh and smile more and talk about his profession with passion, not just cut-and-dry.
He seems knowledgeble, but not too enthusiastic.
Aftercare was emphasized greatly, with many programs and methods of keeping the patient on track. That's what I like about the Bariatric Treatment Center and that's why I chose it.
He addressed all the possible bad things that could happen as a result of such a serious surgery. He quoted the percentages of such risks and left me to make my own decisions.
Dr. Marymor seems to be a very competent surgeon, but I can't say much for his enthusiasm. I haven't had the surgery yet, but I would still choose him because I believe he will do a good job.
Dr marymore was very professional, yet not like all other surgeons. I was surprised when he had no problem spending 45 min with me during my consultation explaining in depth, the procedure, and he wasn't disturbed by answering any questions. He wanted to make sure i understood EVERYTHING! from the risks, to the procedure and outcome. His staff is absolutely wonderful! One of my nurses was concerned about how much water i was retaining, called him, and within 10 min, he was in my room. that's unheard of with dr's now a days. his after care program is unbelievable. i returned from the hospital on thursday, and at 11:00 am, i received a phone call from one of his nurses, wanting to know my pain level, etc, and welcoming me home. THe risks? well, he thoroughly explained all risks at my consultation, as well as the day of surgery(preop) and again postop. he wanted to make sure i was aware of EVERYTHING. I give him on a scale of one to ten - a definate 10. As for the question on his surgical competance, or bedside manner, i say neither is better . . . . i couldn't have asked for a better surgeon and i would recommend him to everyone.
