Neil Hutcher Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

I cannot put into just words how I feel about DR. Hutcher and his staff. They have treated us like we were family and not medical patients.I trust this man with my life and hope if you are having doubts to come and talk to him. I had a set back when my Abdomial wall ripped I was flown to MCV and Ground transported to St. Marys in critical condition on a vent I woke up 5 weeks later with a huge hole where my little scar was. Dr. Hutcher went to hell and back for me saving my life twice. I owe this man my life for saving me from Obesity and again from Septic Shock! Words cannot ever express the love I have for him.

He is very experienced and cares for what the patient feels . His staff is very comforting and also they care about you and what you are trying to accomplish in life with the surgery.

As seen on TV! Dr. Hutcher is the surgeon that did the procedure for the Discovery Channel. He's a great doctor and a real nice person. rnBedside manner is great, followup is fantastic. He's done this surgery a few hundred times in his life and he really knows what he's doing. rnI had many complications that could have prevented a successful surgery, such as scar tissue from a major accident years back, I also had diabetes and sleep apnea. He addressed all of my issues and we had a really great outcome. rnI wish that more doctors would mandate that patients quit smoking at least 3 months before surgery. It's kinda dumb to save your life with RNY to just kill yourself with cigarettes.rnI know I'm supposed to balance my review with the good and the bad, but I honestly can't find a single bad thing about the whole process with Dr. Hutcher.rnI'd give him a 10 out of 10 any day.

I had heard so much about Dr. Neil Hutcher. I was very afraid at first but, he and his staff re-assured me that the choice was entirely up to me. His staff is such a wonderful bunch of people, Mrs.Barbara, Jeanine, Mary, Flo & Stephanie and the entire staff there have all been very nice and helpful to me. There was nothing that I did not like about Dr.Hutcher. He came highly recommended. He along with his staff were very patient, kind and considerate me. I can't thank them enough. Aftercare is a MUST! Shortly after having my surgery I was very sick and I had a very hard time adjusting to my new stomach. I was in and out of the hospital and I had to have my pouch stretched 4 or 5 times before I was able to hold anything down. From my opinion, future patients should know that \"I feel\" that I made the best choice in choosing Dr. Hutcher, and St.Mary's Hospital to assist me in having my surgery. I had other doctors to choose from but, after doing my research I felt that he was the better choice for me. Yes there is an after care program at St. Mary. I have relocated to North Carolina now but, before I left Virginia I did attend some meetings where I met a bunch of wonderful people, like Ms.Linda and Kim. All the risk were explained to me in detail way before my surgery date, and I clearly understood the risk so along with my family I did what was best for me. Overall \"to me\" Dr.Hutcher was the better physician \"for me\"...remember he is the PRESIDENT of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and he has appeared on the Discovery Channel, featured on Jackies's Story and for me surgical competence is better but, having great bedside manner doesn't hurt. Right now I am dealing with loosing my hair and there are still somethings I can NOT eat and at first yes, I wished over and over that I could get my old stomach back and eat and drink like I was before but, now it is all looking much better for me, somedays are a little rough,but overall my health issues are to a minimum and I fell much better, I can do alot more now since I have alot more energy. I have a very active/athletic 14 year old and I really need to be around for her, she is the love of my life.

'I have switch doctors and I chose Dr. Hutcher because I have heard nothing but good things about him. I can't wait for my first meeting. I only wish I had chose Commonwealth Surgeons first.rnrnOn June 22

Dr. Hutcher was very sweet. His whole office is very professional. Dr. Hutcher is a very compassionate, but straight to the point doctor. My husband and I found him to be the best doctor. He told me right up front that I would have more complications than most because of my hernias. He was right. He worked on me for several hours more than either of us anticipated, but he fixed me up wonderfully.
I love him. He gave me back my life. I pray for him daily. He is a blessing.

Dr. Hutcher is the best! When I began my WLS journey the most important thing that I was looking for in a doctor was expertise. I had a bad surgical experience years ago and vowed that I would do my research and only allow the "best" doctor to work on my body! I felt very confident that I had this "best" doctor in Dr. Hutcher. There is no doubt in my mind that he is in the top 1% of the best bariatric doctors in America. I felt so fortunate to live near Richmond so that I could be one of his patients. I am 5 weeks post-op at this point and feel great. My surgical experience with Dr. Hutcher was great, could not have been better. If you want to know that you are in the best hands then he is the doctor for you!

DR. Hutcher seems to be very nice. He also seems to be very patient and he KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING!.

Dr. Hutcher is one of the nicest and sweetest doctors I have ever dealt with. When you are talking one on one with him, you can feel the importance you are to him. Dr. Hutcher was referred to me by a friend who had the surgery 3 years ago and she is doing GREAT! Dr. Hutcher came highly recommended and I would recommend him to EVERYONE! He is the BEST!

The staff at Commonwealth are terrific. They are there for you no matter what. They are always friendly and greet you with a big smile and a how do ya do!

I am so glad that Dr. Hutcher and his staff are going to be there for me for LIFE!
