Now that I have met Dr. Jawad and have had my surgery, let me say that the man is a God-send! My first impression was that he was VERY thorough, in other words prevention was the name of his game. My impression of him only gets better. I had a complication-free, uneventful surgery. His office staff is great too, they are very caring and WANT to help you with this process. The only thing I liked least about Dr. Jawad was not getting to meet him sooner...he is very scarce...but at the same time, he is a VERY busy man and there are only so many hours in a day compared to the demands on him. Future patients should know that he's the best man for the job. He STRONGLY emphasizes aftercare and it is very structured. When he discussed the risks of surgery and his "stats" with regard to each risk, I was amazed! He literally goes through a list of every possible complication, explains it and gives his numbers, which were slim-to-none. Overall, I would give him a 12 out of 10 he's that good. I think surgical competence and bedside manner are both great but in the end, even if Dr. Jawad's bedside manner isn't so inviting to everyone, atleast you're in good hands.
I haven't met my surgeon yet, but his staff was very professional and answered any question I had. He has a fantastic structured after care program for as long as you live.
I met Dr. Jawad for the first time on October 15, 2004. He is a very businesslike man who truly cares about the welfare of his patients. I don't think I could have found a better doctor.
I was very impressed with Dr. Jawad and his team, How he makes sure he informs you about what your about to do. We spent a whole day in his office while they talked to us about everything. And made sure they answered all our questions. He goes through the history of this surgery and how it has changed over the years. He let us know how many patients had complications and what they were. I thought his staff was great they make you feel like family. Very caring about how I'm doing. Not to mention, I was told it would hurt when the drain came out, I didn't even know she was taking it out I had no pain at all. With either. They talk to you about how to care for yourself, With many handouts and this web site, and you can call the office if you have any trouble plus return visits. I couldn't say enough about this Doctor and his staff, they are setting me free from this prison I've been in for many years,They are my angels on earth. Thats how I personally feel about them.
I have yet to meet Dr J. The office staff seem to be quite busy, i detest voice mail. The RNNP was very informative, but I think that she painted quite a rosy picture. I have been to Dr Black's lecture in Daytona and he was the complete opposite.
Dec 2nd is our preop visit, so I'll know more by then.
I had my laproscopic gastric bypass with Dr. Jawad back in April of 2005. 7 years later I have had no complications and I am doing great with my weight. I have even gone through a healthy pregnancy! Dr. Jawad was wonderful and I never doubted that I was in excellent hands. I would highly recommend him
I went to an orientation at Dr. Jawad's office with many other patients inquirying about the WLS. There the nurse explained all the risks, benefits, and procedures that we will go through before we will see the doctor. The clinic gave my a big packet of information about different types of WLS's. I was also told of an internet site to contact and forums I can attend with the doctor. Though, his clinic is far away for me and I don't have a adequate babysitter for me to travel 90 minutes away. Lissette from Dr. Jawad's clinic contacted me on the same day I had my pschye eval and she informed me I was approved for surgery. I was stunned. I asked her what did she mean because I didn't think they would even go through TriCare until I had my whole package ready. She assured me I was approved and just fax her with the paperwork from the blood tests and pschye eval. Lissette was been working with me and she has been great through this whole process. The pschye eval doctor did warn me to seek counseling and find out more info and make sure I have a support system in place. Which is why I am on this forum learning more. I will meet with doctor Jawad on October 21st before my surgery for the first time. I have been reading a lot about him from other patients and his bio and I am not worried. I have confidence in what I have read and have heard. Since, I informed my personal doctor in May and told her I need help to getting a appointment with Jawad's office in July and had a surgery date in August I am to say the least flabbergausted. This surgery just seems destiny. This ordeal seemed a little fast to me and that bothers me some. It has been a little too easy. I really feel if the staff, nurse and staff have been cheerful and confident it made me feel confident in their employer. I reviewed his history and patient numbers and successes. I don't think seeing him until the just before surgery is all that important because there is nothing he or I would have to say until surgery date is in place.
PRE-OP - I've known Dr. Jawad for years and his reputation in Ocala is impeccable! I wouldn't have this surgery with anyone else as he is the best! I'm looking forward to going through this process with him.
POST-OP - Having now gone through the process of having my very first surgery, I know I chose the right man for the job. Dr. Jawad was just as professional as I expected him to be. His complication rate is FAR below the national average and he is an expert in his field. He took whatever time I wanted to answer any questions or concerns and made sure I was comfortable with the WLS process. I highly recommend him and his staff is second to none - friendly, professional, knowledgeable, helpful and a GREAT asset!! I was honored to work with these people!!
I tried to think of any negative comment, but Dr. Jawad has all his bases covered. He's got a great staff, he knows his stuff, he's kind and caring, he's got a wonderful aftercare program and support group. I just couldn't ask for more.
I have not yet Dr. Jawad. I met his nurse practitioner. Silvia was very nice and helpfull. She gave me great encourgement. From what I understand I will be meeting Dr. Jawad when I go for my pre-op appointment the Thursday before my surgery. The staff in the office is unbelievably nice. I will admit I went to my orientation a little "on guard" because im very embarrassed about my weight and I just knew all the staff would be "skinny". But I found that allot of the women that work there have also had the surgery. Prior to my orientation I called and got the list of things I had to have taken care of in order to have the surgery(gall bladder sono, phsycological exam, blood work, etc.)They were very helpfull with my list. One thing that they pushed that was the most important for approval was the 6 month diet plan from your PCP. Im not real sure about how he fels about after care, but I do know that they have a structured program. During orientaion she expressed the risk of the surgery. There was 8 of us together for orientaion and she individually addressed us on which surgery we were interested in and the risk to them. Surgical competence and bedside manner were both excellent!
I met Dr. Jawad for the first time at my Pre-Op visit and liked him immediately. He is very knowledgable about the Roux-en-y and he gave a short history lesson on how gastric bypass surgery came into being. He also discussed the national statistics of each complication that could occur as well as the statistics at his center. The visit was very informative and I learned why his statistics are so great. His regimen is much more strict than some of the regimens I have read about and those individuals who have had complications were following a much more liberal regimen. Some individuals advanced their diets to pureed foods 1 day post-op and were eating regular foods after only a week. YIKES ! Seems a little fast to me.
Anyway, I liked Dr. Jawad very much! I am glad we selected him to perform this surgery.
