My first impression of Dr. Nusbaum was great. He actually took time to see me and explain everything in great detail and answered all my questions and concerns. The office staff is wonderful and very caring. He greatly cares about how you are doing and feeling after surgery. The aftercare program is structured and makes sure you follow thorough. Both surgical competence and bedside manner mean alot and he has both, overall he is an outstanding doctor, and would recommend him to anyone interested. I thank him and my other doctors for helping me change my life.

Oh my God! He is such a wonderful doctor. I don't like doctors and I try not to see any... ever. This became a problem when I needed insurance approval because I needed to be under a doctors supervised weight loss program. So, Dr. Nusbaum set up a 6 month program for me in his center at the ACC. I had the surger and it went GREAT! I couldn't believe that there was no pain. I disagree with the previous patient's statement that you don't see Dr. Nusbaum enough. I saw him the day of the initial consult, and at least three times before the day of the surgery. He does not charge for visits after the initial consult. If you don't want to see him until the day of the surgery, I guess that's up to you. I saw him every day in the hospital and he sent me home on day two. My first post op visit was one week after the surgery and I never had to take any pain meds. Dr. Nusbaum came up with a way to numb the incisions, so I never felt them at all! I was down 15 lbs on my first visit and now at my one month visit I'm down 32lbs. Dr. Nusbaum said that a 10% weight loss is typical for his patients in the first month. His staff is wonderfull, the support is the best and his new office is beautiful. I agree that he is not a 10/10. He's a 12/10! If you didn't ask or choose to see him after your first consult, that is your fault. He told me and my girlfriend that I sent to him that we can come back ANY time to talk without a charge for the visit. Don't blame him if you don't listen. As far as I'm concerned, he's the best- but you can't please everyone! I just want to say that OH should be ashamed of themselves. If they don't like a patient's comments, then they are guilty of what they accuse everyone else of doing. OH I'm not 100% positive about you. Let's see if you have the guts to post this. If not, I'm sure we can discuss it in court! P.S.- I'm an attorney.

Very capable and kind. relates well, but goes on automatic pilot when describing the details of the surgical procedure. I guess thats what happens when you've done so many.

I had found his name from other people on this site and Thank God I did, because he does not advertise, only word of mouth.rnHe was the fourth surgeon I had looked into and the third that I met. I absolutely loved him and I was completely at ease with him immediately. He looks like a little boy, if I hadnt checked out his reputation ahead of time I would have been scared to death!rnI cannot find anything negative to say about him or his staff. They are completely on the ball, eager to help you get the insurance on your side and will tell you what to do to get the insurance approval. rnHe has set up an entire unit at St. Barnabas to help weight loss patients: everything from Nuts to aromatherapy. He truly cares and wants it to work for everyone.rnI had already looked into the risks of the surgery and had heard from most of the other drs. that I had met with. He was the only one that stressed that Lap-Band was right for me, although I had only been told by the others that RNY was what was best. He asked me questions and listened - He didn't talk AT me like the others. rn I liked him and trust him completely I am eagerly moving forward with the insurance approval- something I didnt do when I met the other surgeons. I Absolutely loved him and cannot think of a bad thing to say - sorry!rnWell the day of surgery I was very nervous about the anestesia (always that fear of not waking up) and Dr. Nusbaum came to the holding area and sat with me and reassured me that he handpicks his team and that I was in good hands. He then talked about a few other things with me and my husband I think he just hung around a few minutes to make sure that I wasnt overly nervous and then left as I was wheeled away. He had an amazing team in the OR and his staff at this office is fantastic, always helpful and really fights the insurance company for what you need. I think that if you cannot find the right dr for you where you live, then walk, bike, jog, take a slow boat whatever you need to get to him, you will be in good hands. Again, nothing negative to say!

I first met dr. nasbaum when i attended a lecture at st. barnabas hospital for people interested in having WLS. He was knowledgable and patient at the end of what must have been a long day for him as I now know he had several surgeries that day. When I had my individual meeting with him, he inspired great confidence without being arrogant. He made me feel like he would take really good care of me while being on the cutting edge of the field. His office staff is phenominal. Wanda, in particular, has been a huge support to me answering all questions (inane and otherwise) with kindness and care. He and his staff emphasize the supports in place to help post op such as the nutritiionists, metabolic specialists, exercise physiologists, etc. I have felt fully supported and educated by Dr. Nusbaum and his staff. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Nusbaum was obviously expert in bariatric procedures. He was able to counsel me on the differences between a Lap Band and Bypass, and helped me choose the Lap Band. He patiently answered all of my questions without hesitation and gave me complete confidence both in my decision to have the surgery and in my choice of surgeon.rnrnIn addition, Dr. Nusbaum's office has been extremely helpful in dealing with my very difficult insurance company. I received repeated denials both for the surgery and for post op medications, but his office has tirelessly followed up on my behalf. I think my insurance company uses denials as a form of testing the persistence and perseverance of its insureds, because I had meticulously followed all of the criteria set forth in the company's bulletin for obtaining coverage and still received a denial. Dr. Nusbaum's staff kept following up until I finally received approval.rnrnI am very happy I chose Dr. Nusbaum. He and his staff did an excellent job and made me feel comfortable the entire time.

First of all I was recommended by my cousin Kim Williams for those who've had their surgery at St. Barnabas in Livingston, NJ know her very well. She too had the by-pass surgery. But getting back to Michael Nusbaum. My first impression of Dr. Nusbaum was WOW he looks like a lil boy. (LOL) he can't possibly have the experience that he has in this field. But indeed he did! There isn't anything bad to say say about him. He was very thorough in explaing all the details. I didn't know enough to ask a lot of questions. He'd answer them all. And I also found out alot from viewing his website as well as my cousin (kim) telling me. His record speaks for himself at the time I was inquiring about Dr. Nusbaum he'd already done the by-pass procedure over 5000 times. I've never heard of anyone losing their life nor of anyone having any complications. Truthfully if you follow what you're suppose to do there will be no fatalitites. For those who've asked me about my surgery or the surgery I tell them it's 90% mental 10% physical because the weight is going to come off. You do have to stay in the gym to try to prevent the \"saggy skin\". But....... you have a solid fat and a flabby fat. Those who are flabby will probably wind up having the skin surgery like me. I have wings I have to get rid of. As far as eating after the surgery, you can't possibly think you're going to eat a Big Mac afterwards no, no not at all. Til this day, being 4/4/2007 I still can't eat a whole white castle cheeseburger. That's how I trained myself. When you're full please don't try to finish your meal. Set it aside and come back to it later. I've learned to eat cold food. (LOL)

I researched doctors and hospitals for two years prior to my decision to have surgery. When I first met Dr. Nusbaum, he reminded me of Doogie Howser. I was surprised that he was so young, but knew the number of surgeries he had done and his stats, so I knew I had chosen the right surgeon for me. rnrnHe is soft spoken, professional, thorough and sincere. His staff is always pleasant and helpful. Any questions I ask, they always have an answer. My only complaint is that there is not enough parking available at their office location!rnrnAt 364 lbs., I arrived at St. Barnabas very early on a Thursday morning and left around noon that Saturday. Since I was very familiar with this hospital (my husband had a kidney/pancreas transplant here), I knew I had nothing to worry about. The hospital staff was great, as usual. I didn't use any pain meds after surgery...not in the hospital or at home. Dr. Nusbaum anestetized the inside of each incision...a great alternative to taking pain pills. I only felt some discomfort, absolutely no pain.rnrnI have 90 lbs. to go, but I've come a long way. I can now start doing things that my weight prohibited me from doing, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. I'm so thrilled that I made this life changing decision that I've told my primary physician that any of his patients who are thinking about having WLS can contact me and ask me anything they want about my experience. I am that pleased with my surgeon and this experience.

I had my surgery on January 20th 2004.I am a singer/entertainer .I am also in sales. I SELL GOURMET CHOCOLATE ALL DAY LONG! So... this surgery is The best thing i ever did for myself by the way! :) I have lost almost 100 lbs now. I did ALOT of research before i had this procedure and I am VERY VERY thankful that I did.I really did my homework for ther 1st time in my life!! If only my old teachers could grade me now! You would be surprised at just how many MDs will send you to Surgeons that have \"a name\" and \"a great rep\" .....to thier knowledge anyway. ? Its very sad. No offence to them ofcoarse.. how would they know? Well....I ALMOST had my surgery at another Hospital here in NJ. HOWEVER I DID NOT!!!! wheeeewhhhhhhhhhh! My angel was definitly with me the day i came to that decision.rnrnThank GOD........ Dont get me wrong i know there are Some quality surgeries in bariatrics there.. but SOME is NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!rnI feel very sad when i hear all the horror stories that go on and occur at \"other hospitals\". I pray that everyone who had this will make it off the table breathing and almost more mportantly....live without life altering complications.I also pray that you will be healthy in the days to come and happy forever. rnI REALLLLLYYY also secretly wish The cocky , rush job , \"speed surgeons\" that are totally in it for the $$$ would be cracked down on in NJ!!! I am not the \"sharpest tool in the shed\".....I CAN SING.... but damn..... If only I were a lawyer !!!!! ahhhhhhrnAnyway.. if you are researching this surgery,... PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! I am now convinced.. It is ALL about the SURGEON you use!!! Sure things can occur that may not exactly be doctor error.. however .. if you use a GOOD surgeon.. they will send you for the propper pre op testing to be thorough enough to avoid any unnecessary complications!!! I know sometimes insurance is a big issue.. it was for me too.. Who has thousands of dollars for Dr fees and hospital bills right?? BUT.. i would never ever settle for a DR just because they will pay. This is your life!!! This is the body you need to get you through the rest of your days..!! Think about it....rnPlease feel free to contact me if I can help.. i will do my best to assist in ANY way possible. God bless you .I wish you well and congrats to all my fellow \"GBSers\"....rnrnOh yeah.. and to my surgeon....Dr Nusbaum at St Barnabus in NJ... YOU are the difference in this field!! YOU are the concience of this surgery and im now convinced that You will go down in history. Congrats on your statistics and amazing QUALITY surgeries!!! You are a one of a kind surgeon,,,You are a one of a kind intelligence and you are a beautiful soul.I want to Thank you from the bottom of my heart. In the most professional way possible....I love you. :) (and your staff too!!!)If only i could tell the world about you.. everyone would see that 1 out of every 200 do not have to die.. and that open incision is NOT the safest way to go... but most importantly.. the world would see Gastric Bypass statistics in a VERY different light!!!rnrnrn

Dr. Nusbaum is amazing. So is his office staff - they are all the nicest, most patient medical professionals I have met. I liked knowing that I was going to someone dedicated and trained so thoroughly in doing lap band procedures. I am so glad I found him and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to undergo weight loss surgery.
