I had my LapBand Surgery with Dr. Nusbaum just over 10 months ago. It went so smoothly that I couldn't believe it. Denise was great. She held my hand the whole way and answered all my 20 million questions without a complaint. The day of the surgery I was so so nervous. Dr. Nusbaum saw me in the same day area and was so calm and reassuring that I knew I was in good hands. Afterward, I couln't believe that I had no pain at all. I didn't feel the incisions and I didn't even have the gas pain that many people complain about. I went home the next morning and never filled the pain medicine persription.rnNow that I'm just over 10 months out, I'm down 121 lbs. If I could just lose another 20 lbs I'll be at my ideal body weight.rnI did make some mistakes along the way. A couple of times I forgot that I had the band and forgot to chew... big mistake. Other than that, the last 10 months was a breeze. I'm off my BP meds and off my glucophage.rnThank you so much Dr. Nusbaum, you have changed my life. Now I can keep up with my kids. I rate Dr. Nusbaum a 12/10. The two extra points are for caring and compashion.
Well,,,,,Its been 4 and a half years already,,,and i cant believe it...I had MY surgery on February 27,2003.But,before i tell you about My surgery......Here's alittle about before the surgery.I was always alittle heavier than most of my friends growning up.I was introduced to Dr.Nusbaum,by my mom's Doctor(Dr.Fletcher)...I had seen other doctors in the past on this surgery,,,but thought of Dr.Nusbaum,,,cause he showed great bedside manner....It was the first time I had any major surgery.A friend of mine,,,had the surgery by Dr.Nusbaum,,,only 6 months before,,and she did well,,so i figured,,,with his knowledge of this surgery,,,he would be MY doctor. So,,,my folks & myself went to St.Barnabas on that faithful day(Feb-27-2003),,,and I went with the hope of finally losing all my weight & having a normal lifestyle again.Well,,,unfortunately for myself,,,I didn't prepare myself for the surgery like i should have.I did the fasting & all,,,but for some crazy reason,,,i couldnt flush my body out enough.I just thought that if i wasnt eating for 2 days,,,that i would be pretty cleaned out for the surgery.Well,,,what a mistake.....I went through with the surgery,,,and i guess it was 2 days later,,,i really cant remember from the(morphine-hi),,,,i woke up,,,and was told by a nurse to walk,,,cause they did not want me to get blood clots in my body.I remember walking in the hall,,,when all of a sudden,,,,i got this really bad burning feeling in my chest.I told my dad & the nurse that i couldnt walk anymore,,,and was getting nautious.I must of either passed out or don't recall what happened next.I did wake up,,,as I thought it was the same night,,,but it was a week later,,,as being told by my mom & dad,,,later on,,,that I almost died,,,cause there was a leak in my stomach,,,probably from not preparing myself for the surgery good enough..I was in coma for a week,,,and after being in ICU for 2 weeks....And,,,2 more surgeries after,,,a total of 14 weeks in the hospital,,,,,I am now post -op for 4...and a half years......Thank god Dr.Nusbaum & Dr.Fletcher were there,,,to save me.....Thank You,,,,Dr.Nusbaum.........Even though I was one of the UNLUCKY-or-LUCKY one's....I would do it all over again,,,with you at my side.......
Thanks to Dr. Nusbaum I am happily on the losing side of life and loving every minute of it. I am about 20lbs from anticipated goal and less than a year post op...could not have asked for a better result...I feel wonderful best I have ever felt!rnrnThanks again to Dr. Nusbaum for giving me my life back!
I had my Roux and Y surgery with Dr. Nusbaum back in March of 2007. At that time, I weighed in at over 500lbs. I couldn't believe it at the time. I hadn't weighed myself in more than a year. I was very nervous about the surgery. You hear all the time about guys my size having problems. So, I did my homework and searched out a surgeon with experience. I went for a consult at Morristown and they told me that I was too heavy and too high a risk for the surgery. I was so distrought after that encounter that I soured to the whole idea. Then I ran into a co-worker who had the surgery. She looked soo good and was doing so well that I had to find out who did her surgery. She told me about Dr. Nusbaum. She told me that he does super-super's like myself all the time. In fact, his largest laparoscopic gastric bypass was over 900 lbs!rnSo, I went for the consult. He was great! After the first few minutes I knew that I found the surgeon for me. He didn't rush... at all. He sat and spoke with me like a person. He understood all my problems and emotions completely. After completing all my test, I had the surgey at the end of March without a hitch. I didn't even feel a thing and didn't use any pain meds. It is now nearing the end of October. I am down over 215 lbs and I feel great! I'm off the CPAP torture machine, off my Avandia, off my cardizem. In fact I'm not on any meds any more.rnI can't tell anyone enough how much this surgery and Dr. Nusbaum have done for me. Dr. Nusbaum is a world class surgeon with a warm and compasionate bedside manner. Now my wife is scheduled to have her surgery. We think that Dr. Nusbaum is the best. No rating scale goes high enough. I've been blessed to have found him.
Dr. Nusbaum had made every step of my weight-loss journey a pleasant one. He has a way of putting me at ease about all aspects of teh surgery and post-surgery support. In addition, his staff, especially Wanda, excels at giving top-rate patient services.rnrnDr. Nusbaum's rates can be a little high, from research I've done, but overall I couldn't be happier.
What can I say about Dr. Nusbaum, I dont know where to begin. My first impression of him was a hugh feeling of relief, I knew as soon as I spent just a few minutes with him, that I was in the right place with the right Doctor. Dr. Nusbaum answered all of my questions and concerns, as well as my husbands. We left our first visit with 100% confidence and a true feeling of well being, not to mention I knew that this was the Doctor that was going to help make MY dream come true. I felt safe and secure about the decision I was making. Dr. Nusbaum's entire staff was wonderful, they showed a unique blend of professionalism, kindness & concern. I must also say that Wanda & Jessica were angel's, I had lots of emotions going through the pre approval process, they both always handled my phone calls and endless questions with grace & warmth. Dr. Nusbaum fully informed me about the risks of the surgery as well as what aftercare I would need. The morning of my surgery I spoke with Dr. Nusbaum prior to going into the Operating room, he has the kindness and most reassuring bedside manner I have ever experienced. I think that Dr. Nusbaum is truly one in a million, he is an outstanding surgeon, as well as an exceptional human being. I feel lucky to have had him as my Doctor and would have to say, he's tops!!! I give Dr. Nusbaum my 110% approval, and he gives his patients 110% excellent care. He helped make my dream come true. At my 1 week post op visit, I was down 21 lbs!!!rnrnDenise Parrinellornbanded 9/21/06
My first impression of Dr. Nusbaum was that he was YOUNG! With that said his record is flawless, with over 2000 WLS to date! I truly feel like I will be in gifted hands. His extra precautions of silk sutures and the GI test while you are “under” to make SURE there are no leaks made me feel like this Surgeon is meticulous, serious and very cautious. His bedside manner was also so wonderful, I did not expect that with a surgeon. He was patient and answered my 20 plus written questions! He explained all of the risks thoroughly and stressed the aftercare. His office has access to everything, from nutritionist to psychologist to support groups. His staff, was great, very caring and \"real\"...there is nothing phony about anyone there. I would rate Dr. Nusbaum an 11++ out of 10!
