I FELT VERY CONFIDENT IN THE DOCTOR AS SOON AS I MET HIM.
MY CONSULT WAS IN AUG 2002 AND I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE SURGERY ON 11-11-02. I MET WITH HIM AGAIN TODAY AND LIKE HIM EVEN MORE. HIS STAFF IS "WONDERFUL"
SO FAR I CAN NOT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HIM OR HIS STAFF.
HE IS NOT AN ALARMIST AND IS VERY COMFORTING AND UNDERSTANDING.
HE IS QUITE CONCERNED WITH AFTERCARE AND GETTING THE ADEQUATE NUTIENTS.
YES HE DOES HAVE A STRUCTURED AFTERCARE.
THE LAST QUESTION WILL BE ANSWERED AFTER THE SURGERY. AS FOR NOW I THINK THAT HE IS GREAT AND DOESN'T RUSH ME WITH ALL OF MY QUESTIONS. I STRONGLY FEEL HE UNDERSTANDS THE DIFFICULTIES OF BEING OVERWEIGHT--- WHICH IS UNUSUAL FOR A PERSON WHO IS NOT OVERWEIGHT.

I met with Dr. Nusbaum for my initial consultation and was very impressed with his sweet personality, his honesty and his intelligence. I had seen another doctor and was undecided about who would perform my procedure until I met Dr. Nusbaum. I chose him hands-down! His office staff was also very friendly and understanding.

Dr. Nusbaum and his staff are very professional and warm. I have made several phone calls, and was never made to feel anything other than important to them all. I felt that all my questions were answered completely, and in language that was completely understandable. Aftercare is important, as well as the family and friends support. A nutritionist is counciling befor and after. I understand the risks and they were all addressed carefully.

Dr. Nusbaum is possibly the best surgeon to have for this type of surgery. Upon first meeting him, I felt that he was truly a man of experience in the field of bariatric surgery. He answered every question I had even before I could ask it. He made sure that I understood the full procedure and what would be done, the recovery process and care and protocol for my care at home. When I left him, I was convinced that the surgery was definitely what I wanted and I was a little nervous because I think I was a little too informed. I knew exactly what to expect. But at least I was able to prepare for the unpleasantries.

I still believe that Dr. Nusbaum is the best and I have researched many. If I had to make this decision again, or had to recommend a doctor to someone who was thinking of having this surgery, I would recommend him over and over again.

His office staff are very friendly and polite and unlike some they do not look down on big people and snicker behind your back. They are truly professional.

There was nothing that I disliked about Dr. Nusbaum.

All prospective patients of Dr. Nusbaum should know that he cares for our well being. He is going to do exactly what needs to be done, and he is going to tell you exactly what is true. Not what you ant to hear. I was most impressed by the attention he paid to my family during this whole process. During the surgery, I had many people who were in the waiting room worried and concerned. But my family and friends stated that he made sure that they were kept informed so that they were not as nervous. He included them when explaining to me what will be allowed after surgery. Right before the surgery I was scared to the point of crying and he made sure that he talked to me and made me feel comfortable.

Dr. Nusbaum, who came to see me every day while I was in the hospital, and has a very good and pleasant bedside manner, has a group already in place and while you're in the hospital they visit you every day. There is already a nutritionist and dietician
( who are located right downstairs from his office and after each visit with him, you just go down and see them no appt. needed). There are also therapists that you can talk to if you feel that you need it. Everyone is already there and during your hospital stay, they will all come and introduce themselves to you and give you their information.

Yes, there is a structured aftercare, see above.

He made sure that I knew all the risks of surgery and sign and symptoms of each and also how to react to each.

I would rate Dr. Nusbaum and his colleagues as the best. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate hime a 9.5. Nobody's perfect, but he is the closest I've seen.

Surgical competence and Bed side manner are both important. While you are sick, you want to know that the doctor caring for you is capable of doing his job well and restoring your health. However, you want him to be friendly while doing so. So the two work hand in hand.
