I have always been heacy and always struggled with my weight. As a 16 yr old, I hit 165 pounds and knew I had to lose weight. I did, but gained once again after marriage and a baby. Before I knew it 15 years had passed and I was \"topped out\" at 268 pounds. I had faithfuly tried traditional weight loss programs with no success. I had joint pain, sleep apnea, insulin resistance issues, and rising blood pressure. With a strong family history of heart disease, I feared I would not be around to watch my children grow up to start their own families. My only choice, and my best decision, was gastric bypass. I prayed through the 6-month trial period required by my insurance company and was mentally, physically, and spiritually ready for surgery. Although it was the hardest surgery ( of several I've had), I had NEVER experienced a moment of regret. I am in the best shape I've been in since my teen years. I no longer suffer from sleep apnea, insulin issues, or joint pain. I am enjoying life and loving the experience of watching my children grow!! Dr. Schmitt knows his stuff. He has always been supportive and thorough. He was great while I was in the hospital and wonderful on each additional visit. Thanks
I have struggled with my weight since my last child. He is eleven now. I was about to turn 40, overweight with sleep apnea and border line diabetes. I needed to do something drastic. So I came to a seminar and decided to have gastric bypass surgery. I followed the seven month program and had surgery in January 2009 and I have lost 90 pounds in eight and a half months. Dr. Schmitt was very nice and informative. I would reccommend him to everyone.
After getting a divorce in 1981, I started steadily gaining weight. I realized in 2000, I really need to do somethingto change my life. In 2002, after my children have finished college I decided it was time to take care of me instead of my kids. I finally in 2006 got the courage to really get serious. I had tried many diets over the years but never stuck with it. I found Dr. Schmitt over the internet and started the process. It was the best and the easiet thing I've ever done for myself and my children. I feel great and have so much energy now.
I have struggled with weight my whole life which eventuallylead to type II diabetes, PCOS and other health problems. I had lap band to help me with weight and to control my sugar levels. Dr. Schmitt will tell you like it is which is something I like. He has been very nice throughout the process of lap banding. My surgery went very well and I had the procedure done on Wednesday and I went back to work on Monday. Dr. Schmitt's team including the office, coordinator and dietician have been extremly caring and very easy to work with.
I was 257 pounds and I was sick three-fourths of the time and took many meds. I couldnt travel and get out of town because of the weight and my I.B.S.. Now I have lost 22 pounds and have cut down on my meds and I can travel. Dr. Schmitt is wonderful. I have a great respect for him as a doctor and has a friend.
As long as I can remember I have had a weight problem. My family has a history of obesity. All of the women on my Dad's side have been overweight and several have had weight loss surgery. Dr. Schmitt is a very smart man. He did my daughter's gastric bypass and my lap band. I have all the confidence in his ability and competence as a surgeon. I live two hours away from support group. I would love to see support groups meetings in other areas of the state such as the Muscle Shoals area.
