Have not meet with him yet but I have a app. on Jan 9,2003. I have heard very good things about him and cant wait to meet him. Well, I have had my Appointment with Dr Alexander and he was great he was very nice and took as much time as we needed to ask our questions. His office staff has been so far wonderful.I belive that I have choosen the best Dr for me!The best Dr. I can not say enough about Dr A. He is the best!!!!
I really felt good about Dr. Alexander, he was able to answer the questions that I had, and was very positive! His staff has been wonderful, always pleasent to deal with. not much was talked about aftercare programs, but I will be doing some after with my PCP here in Terrell. Also, I have a mini support group and of course Obesityhelp.com
I would and have recommend Dr. Alexander to anyone that is considering WLS. Of course my biggest advise is to do all your research on your surgeon!
Dr. Alexander was wonderful! He told me that my surgery was flawless and I think that helped in the recovery period...at least mentally. Luckily, I had no complications before, during, or after the surgery. Every question I had, he had an answer. It's too bad that the staff @ RHD couldn't follow his lead. I would highly recommend him to anyone seriously thinking of having this operation.

I can't reccomend Dr. Alexander enough. I know 3 people who already had the surgery performed by him. My visit with him was very pleasant. I did have some miscommunications with his staff, but it was all worked out. I've been approved, but I don't have a surgery date yet. It should be within the next month! I did have to wait 2 hours for my appointment in the waiting room, but I knew that would probably happen going in. I didn't need much information because I researched the surgery for a couple of months before my consultation. You do have to pay $205 for the consultation, but after that, he deals with insurance.
Dr. Alexander impressed me with proven cases and evident knowledge. I was comfortable and at ease after my consultation. He was very positive and reinforces that on every visit. He will address the negative things and risks of the surgery, but will not be consumed with them or let them bring you, or him down. He tends to get the "Bad" things out of the way first thing, and then it's all about how good you are going to look and feel after the surgery. Not to mention all the health problems that will disappear. He will tell you upfront his office is not big on aftercare, save the removal of the tube and any obvious medical complications, like infection, pain, etc. He refered me to this website for aftercare guidance. I would go to D. Alexander without hesitation. He is by far a master at this. My primary physician of over 15 years says he is the best. I agree. He visited me every day in the hospital and kept my wife fully informed on everything. I have paged him several times after hours, even on Christmas eve and he called me right back. The only thing I would even possibly think about mentioning is the long time you may spend waiting to see him. I, personally enjoy the people and conversation, and I always learn something new, or pass on what I have learned and experienced. I only mention it because some people cannot stand waiting. It is worth it. Relax... and be confident in choosing Dr. Alexander. I am 4 months post-op and my wife is almost 2. We are both thrilled with our results, and our Dr.
I am an Anesthesiologist and consider myself a "scaredy cat" when it comes to being cut on. I have three small children depending on me and I have a great deal to live for. I made sure I researched Dr. Alexander to the best of my ability and I never found a mark on his record. I was impressed with his kindness towards me as a person and his ability to relate to me. He was relaxed and confident and took the time to answer all my inquiring questions. He explained to me that he has a very unique technique for his RNY and he has had incredible results. His attention to detail and his dedication to his work made an impression on me and I have spent most of my adult life with SURGEONS.
I would recommend him to anyone considering RNY. He is a skilled surgeon and his technique is far superior to all other techniques being performed. He is a Master at what he does.
On Thursday, January 10, 2003, my husband and I went to meet Dr. Alexander. We each came with a list of questions. My husband was running behind schedule, so when Dr. Alexander first came into the room, I was alone. I mentioned that my husband was on his way and the doctor suggested we wait for him. I was impressed. He didn't want to hurry through this important discussion and risk missing anything that was important to my spouse, my support system. He spent over 2 hours with us, explaining everything. Initially I thought we were getting quite a sales pitch, but by the end of our visit, we both felt that not only is he a qualified surgeon, he has a passion about this field of medicine. I have no doubts he's the surgeon for me.
We're waiting for insurance approval. I've spoken with my manager at work and she is so supportive as well. Several others have had the surgery over the last few years, so there's a support system built into my workplace. I'm hoping for surgery at the end of February.
UPDATE: I'm now 6 days post op and have a new appreciation for the skillful surgeon Dr. Alexander is. My gall bladder became very problematic during surgery, but he handled it and the rest of me with awesome care. My incision is longer than I would have liked, but I'd rather be sure there was nothing bad going on inside.
I also want to make a public post of how INCREDIBLE Dr. A's nurse, Denise Oakley is! She is actually on staff at HealthSouth so she visited me every day and was there for me to act as my advocate when I wasn't getting response from the hospital staff. She is a former patient of Dr. A's herself and is dedicated to the care of WLS patients. She is warm and friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Next to his surgical skill, Denise is Doctor Alexander's greatest asset! And you can quote me on that!
My first impression Of Dr.Alexander was great. He has a wonderful smile and is very charming. He never made us feel rushed. He sat with with my husband and I for over an hour answered all our questions most before we even asked them.He does focus on the positive and lightly on the negitive. However,I think if one would want to talk more on that he would do so.I found his staff to be helpful and very friendly. From the day of my first visit to the day of approval took less than 2 weeks so I think they were on the ball there. The wait in the office for your first visit is a long one.I waitted 2 hours but trust me this will be the best 2 hours you can spend.Meeting all the people in the office that had already had surgery or waitting to have it was a real education.I would not have changed the wait for anything and look forward to it again.I am waitting to have surgery on 4/22/03 then I will write more.
I have read every profile from Dr. Alexander's patients. All of the accounts and stories were very accurate. No surprises. The wait was 2.5 hours. Dr. Alexander would have spent as much time as I wanted for the consult. I really liked his comments regarding LAP surgery. He said that he does not like LAP surgery because it allows the surgeon a 2D view of the procedure instead of a 3D view. He said, and I agree, that the 3D allows a better view in locating potential problems.
He drew a diagram of the procedure and put in terms that instilled confidence and comfort in me. So far he gets high marks.
POST-OP UPDATE - I had my three week post-op visit on 4/3/03. I want to compliment the office staff on the great way they have taken care of me. I had developed an infection on my incision a couple of days prior to my post-op visit. My wife called the office and described the incision to Tina. Tina was very quick to respond and got a prescription called in. I was taking my first dose of antibiotics within two hours of my first call to the doctors office. Very impressive. It gets better. DeDe (the office manager) called me the next day to make sure that I was taking the medication and asked if I had any questions. I truly appreciate the concern and follow up. All of this merely confirms that I selected the correct team to perform my surgery.
