Jeffrey Lord Bariatric Surgeon MD

I have to say that so far Dr. Lord is a really great guy. He has been so nice. He made me feel at ease with him. I have never had a uncomfortable moment with him. He always makes sure I am aware of all the risks. Also, Jan is a wonderful lady. She really cares all about all the patients. I couldn't of asked for a better group of people on my life. They have done everything in their power for me. If I had to rate this group it would get 10!

My first impression of him was that he is great. The office staff so far has been great. And I finally have my date..

Dr. Lord, and also Dr. Fontana both do bariatric surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth are very knowledgeable and competent surgeons. They both have a great bedside manner, as well as a great follow-up plan. They are the best of the best in my opinion.

Jan Carlo is the surgery co-ordinator, among other things. I don't think the title describes her job well enough. She is the "go to" person whenever we have questions, and she always responds in a timely manner, and with a wonderful attitude that most people with her caseload would not be able to muster. She is truly an asset to the Portsmouth Bariatric surgery team.

The bottom line is that I went into this surgery well informed, and I know that with thier team, I will continue to be well informed should I need any guidance post op.

Well after hearing all the horror stories of Gastric By-pass, It was refreshing to listen to the whole team on what to expect and in a group setting, it made makes the decision alot easier and that I'm not the only one having this. Dr Lord is awesome, I wasnt quite sure what to expect at my consult, but after a few moments I was perfectly at ease. Im fortunate to have a doctor who cares about my health 100% and was honest enough to talk to me about my weight. Just after the consult and the orientation, I feel I could write my own book - the wealth of information that is given out is overwelming. Jan is just great, the whole transition is going so smoothly, having been through the process herself makes it easy to talk to her. I have so much confidence in Dr. Lord and Jan, I don't even need to worry. Im anxiously waiting to meet the rest of his team.


I just want to thank Dr Lord and Dr Fontana for everything that they have done for me and the care and special attention on the day of my surgery. I am very thankful that I had a great team and very highly respected throughout the entire hospital. I heard nothing but positive things about the both of you during my stay. Jan a special thank you to you - you ensured that I was 100% knowledgeable for when I would return home. It was hard trying to remember everything that I read in the book, but having the one page quick info sheet helped tremendously when I arrived at home.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but my empression of Dr lord and the staff, especially Janet have been wonderful. I'm excited for my furture. I have met many several people who have had surgery with Dcotor Lord and are very happy. Many of my questions are be answered by these women . I do look forward in working with the rest of the staff on getting ready for my new life.

My first impression of my surgeon was that he was extremely "cocky". My impression changed over time because I would prefer someone who is confident and knows what he is doing. The office staff is excellent, she is a one woman show!No dislikes! Dr. Lord emphasizes the importance of education and knowledge about the procedure. He really wants his patients to be aware of the risk and benefits of the surgery. He does have a structured aftercare program in place which includes monthly support group meetings. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great!

I saw Dr. Fontana. I wasn't too sure about him, I would have rather had Dr. Lord, I know he is more experienced. As time drew closer, I became more and more relaxed with him. I knew I was in good hands. Jan and Dr. Lord were great too, I don't think I could have found a better surgical team. Thank you Dr. Fontana, Dr. Lord and Jan Carlo!

Dr. Lord is very confident and I felt very comfortable with him. He is the best!

My impression of Dr Lord at first in my head was like Dr. Lord? How can I go wrong with a name like that...
Dr. Lord takes time to know his patients and their concerns to a complicated surgery. He is very thorough with his testing and very knowledgeable to answering any questions you may have.
I would rate him on scale of 1-10 and 10 being highest he gets way beyond a 100. He is very careing and very concerned with yourself and those around you. He will make sure you are comfortable and will make sure your stay at the hospital is relaxing. If you arent relaxed and feeling well he will take care of the issues.
Dr' Lord's liasion between himself and his patiends is Jan Carlos- she is very head strong and knowledgeable to the surgery as she also had surgery done herself. She is very cheerful and makes sure you are comfortable with the testing and questions that you may have. We have support meetings every month which makes it easier for those who have had surgery, getting ready to have surgery adn those who are interested in becoming more knowledged on something that is a lifelong commitment. If I could recommend him to any one I would....Like I said how can you go wrong with a name like DR. LORD?

Dr. Lord made me feel like I was his patient from birth. He has a way of making you feel that you are the most important patient on his list. He makes wonderful eye contact while describing and detailing the surgery. I will never forget how he looked at, reviewed and initialed every single page of my medical record. It was very important to me to feel that my surgeon knew me and my medical history. The office staff from the case manager, Jan, to the nutrition consultants, Chris and Nancy are fabulous. The whole department is attentive and caring before and after surgery. They all stress the importance of following the doctor's orders, eating right, exercising and calling them with any questions or concerns. They encourage the patients to attend the support group meetings each month whether awaiting surgery or post-op. I have no doubt that Dr. Lord is a master in this field and would highly recommend him and his staff to anyone considering this procedure.
