My first impression of Dr. Lord was that he had a lot of confidence in his abilities and a huge ego. He was very sure of himself and this made it easy to convince me that I was going to be o.k. under his care. My impression changed over time by softening the 'ego' perspective - I think he truly likes his work, he's good at it, and he is an excellent doctor. He is very kind and concerned about his patients. It's a very scarey prospect and he and his staff put you at ease. The aftercare program so far has just been the scheduled check-ups. The risks of surgery were reviewed and acknowledge and understanding of those risks was required in writing. Overall, he was awesome. It was a long process and Jan Carlow was there along the entire journey. She is great at what she does. They make fairy tales come true. My only complaint was that I didn't like all the 'trainee interns' coming in post op - some of them did things to me that they shouldn't have and it caused a lot of pain. But, Dr. Lord corrected things immediately. I believe that surgical competence is best, but both that and a good bedside manner are a necessity. Dr. Lord has both. You won't regret having him as your surgeon.

I WAS VERY VER IMPRESSED WITH DR LORD. HE KNOWS HIS BUSINESS AND ISN'T AFRAID TO LET YOU KNOW THAT. HE IS VERY VERY THOROUGH, COMES TO THE MEETINGS TO SPEAK TO YOU PERSONALLY, HAS THE NURSES AND PSYCHOLOGISTS THERE ALSO TO SPEAK. IT IS A VERY THOROUGH PROGRAM AND PUT ME ALOT MORE AT EASE THAN I WAS TO BEGIN WITH. THEY TAKE CARE OF YOU BEFORE SURGERY GETTING YOU READY FOR IT AND TAKING NO CHANCES OF ANYTHING GOING WRONG. THEY ARE WITH YOU DURING AND AFTER SURGERY TO HELP YOU THROUGH IT.

I WILL ADD MORE AS I KNOW MORE

My first impression of Dr.Lord was that he was an angel sent from up above. He has a great staff that works with him and a wonderful RN coordinator. I can't say anything bad about DR.Lord or his staff because they have been GREAT!!!! He knows what he is doing and he makes sure you fully understand what you are about to do.. The support group is great and he stress that you visit the class. He really made me feel very good about the entire program. He went into great detail about risk factors and what could happen. I really feel he is the greatest.

My first impression of Dr. Lord was that he was either arrogant or just very good at what he does. Now I know it's not that he is arrogant at all, but that he really is very good at what he does. He knows exactly what he is doing. He has an incredible program going on at the hospital for his patients. From the beginning all the way through aftercare. I feel very blessed to have him doing the surgery. I know it says.. No person can be the best in all aspects... but the truth is, Dr. Lord comes darn close!

I just want to add that Dr. Lord is extremely understanding. He doesn't mix words.. but he does it with compassion. Thank you Dr. Lord!

My first impression of Dr Lord was what a confident man. He was friendly, knowledgable and best of all personal. He listened, looked me in the eye, and never dismissed any of my concerns.

His office staff which is mainly one women Janet Carlos was wondeful and spoke to me on the level of a friend. Can't get any better.

Dr Lord's after care has been outstanding, I have had a few complications since the surgery. He and Jan didn't waste a moment when things were not so great for me they reacted with care and skill ASAP.

I would rate Dr Lord and his staff A+++++++.

Great people.

I had my first (consultation) on 17 April 2003. At that point my doctor was supposed to be Dr. Spencer, but due to his being a navy doctor, and retiring/transfering he is not going to be able to do my surgery.

I am now having Dr. Jeffrey Lord, who took over for Dr. Spencer. Dr. Lord seems to be a very well intentioned man who is very estatic about being able to help a person to have a very healthy body and mind before the surgery to make sure that the operation and healing time go as smoothly as possible.

I had a number of tests ran and many appointments scheduled for this operation. I've had to quit smoking since Dr. Lord and/or the navy have it as a policy that they won't do the surgery for someone who is smoking.

Dr. Lords assistant is a very nice woman who has had the surgery herself. So, she understnads the fear and questions that we all seem to have from time to time.

My first impression of Dr. Lord was a very good one. He is a very nice personable person. He is very easy to talk to. He is a wonderful surgeon!! My impression of him only got better! Everyone at Portsmouth Naval Hospital are wonderful!! I could not ask for better health care providers!! Anyone who is fortunate enough to be able to have this surgery at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth should consider themselves extremely lucky!! Dr. Lord and his staff express that the aftercare is extremely important! They have an excellent aftercare program set up at the hospital and that is a very comforting feeling to have. Dr. Lord is very upfront and honest about all of the risks and makes sure that you understand them. I would rate Dr. Lord and his staff and program as a 10!! They are the best!!!
I feel surgical competence and bed side manner are both extremely important!! You need both to have a good experience!!

Dr. Lord was a God sent. He rode in like a hero on a white horse. That's how I felt when I first saw him after being delayed for surgery because of no surgeon for around 6 months. Dr. Lord has been a great surgeon to talk, and ask questions of. He was always willing to answer any questions. He is very knowledgable on the surgery I had as well as other procedures for WLS.

Of course, no surgeon can do everything. He has great people around him helping everything move smoothly. Janet is our vigilant and overwhelmly busy contact and scheduler and liason between us and the doctors. She works so hard to keep everything on schedule and organized. And with all that she is usually able to remember all of our names. Dr. Lord also has a great doctor working with him. Dr. Fontana assisted Dr. Lord with my surgery. I found him extremely nice and always concerned on how I was really doing. The time I spent in the hospital I saw him several times. He has also done one of my follow up visits. There are many people in the WLS program there at Portsmouth NMC that are great and caring people.

One thing that I could tell anyone that is going to have Dr. Lord as their surgeon would be - Do not expect to sit on your butt after surgery. He is a big believer in making sure you are up and walking around the day after surgery. I luckly have two good friends who came to see me the day after surgery and made sure I got up and started walking. The first time is always the hardest.

Overall Dr. Lord impressed me. I have been through the process for WLS with 4 different surgeons and he is the fist to make me feel extremely confident about not only his ability but his personal care. Most doctors that I have met may be well qualified but don't have the best of personalities. Dr. Lord has both. He is a true delight.

I have met Dr. Lord twice, once at orientation and then for my consult. Dr. Lord is very nice. He made me feel very comfortable about the entire surgery. He made sure that he answered any questions that I had. He took his time to explain the entire surgery to me and I have a much better understand of what is going to happen during surgery.

*I am VERY impressed with Dr Lord. He is very friendly, and very caring.
*I only grew to like him moreover time,he really cares about his patients.
*The office staff, including Jan, are out of this world friendly, no one has ever made me feel more comfortable!
*Dr Lord is a straight shooter, and will tell you what you need to know. He answered ever question I had honestly and with no hesitation.
*Dr Lord gives very good aftercare,I saw him yesterday for my 1 week checkup and I was thrilled with how much attention he gave me. *I go back in 3 weeks, for my 1 month checkup, very on the ball with keeping up with aftercare.
*Dr Lord told me all of the things that could go wrong, and let me ask any questions that I had,no matter how weird they may have been!
* I would rate Dr Lord a 10, I go to a military hospital and I don't know how to get a different Dr once they decide who will see you, but I was lucky enough to get Dr Lord, all things happen for a reason, and I must have done something good to get Dr Lord as my surgeon.
* Dr Lords surgical competence and bedside manner, I would have to say are both great, not that I got to see him operate, but I feel good 1 week out and I guess that means something, his bedside manner however,is wonderful,as if an old friend is there with you.
