Dr Lord rocks on so many levels! I am so comfortable with him and all of his staff. This is one doc who will tell you like it is but is so sweet. The aftercare is very emphasized and you will be HIS patient for the rest of your life-he has laid claim to you! He went over all of the risks of the surgery and the risks of not getting it. I would rate him an 11 of 10 stars!
I met Drs. Lord & Fontana in early January 2004. They both have a great sense of humor and certainly have abundant credentials and experience! I'd only heard good things before meeting them and those comments were supported by my first appointment. They absolutely put your safety and well-being first. If they say they need more tests, you can be sure it's to your benefit to follow-through. They are meticulous in their screening of new patients and consequently they have excellent outcomes. Follow-up is required and comprehensive, including physical, emotional and nutritional aftercare.
I loved Dr. Lord from the get go! My impression over time became more and more confident in him as a surgeon! Janet is GREAT and soooo helpful. There was nothing that I did not like about Dr. Lord. As a future patient you should know he does not like smoking and will not do surgery if you smoke! He emphasizes aftercare and encourages you to stay active in the support groups at the hospital. Dr. Lord was very up front about the risks of surgery and informs you of all the complications. I would rate Dr. Lord a 10!! Dr. Lord not only is highly competent in his surgical ability his bedside manner is superb and he is very kind and supportive! WALK WALK WALK after surgery!
2/14/04 I have had my orientation a few days ago and am very impressed with the wealth of information given to us. I don't think there was one unanswered question for me. Dr. Lord's credentials are outstanding - I'm so excited to have surgery done by one of the best of the best.
One can tell Dr. Lord and all the other people on his staff (Jan, the nutrition specialist and the psychologist) are very well versed, easy to talk with, VERY KNOWLEDGABLE and totally understanding of our condition without judging. They are totally excited about helping us get a new start in life!!!!
Dr. Lord seemed really great at the first initial appointment. The man knows his stuff. He is very serious though about making sure you follow all the "rules and regulations" after surgery. But that is great. It shows he is concerned about the final outcome beyond the end of the surgery experience. His nurse coordinator, Jan Carlo,is great as well. She has been through this so she knows exactly what we are experiencing. The nutrionist and psychologist are all really good too. They are very concerned in making sure this is the right step for each of us individually. As it stands right now, I dont think I could ask for a better surgical team for this experience.
Will update more as I progress farther into the process.
I was very nervous at my pre-op appointment. He was able to make me feel very comfortable, very fast. I met him at the orientation group and he did an amazing job helping us understand the surgery more. I was impressed with his knowledge to this surgery. I continue to think him, and Dr. Fontana are an incredible team. His staff is extremely helpful. I found that the nutrionist was amazing in terms of helping me understand how my life will change after surgery. I haven't yet met a person in his staff I wasn't comfortable with. They are all an incredible staff!! Dr. Lord knows what he is talking about and will work with anyone that steps into his office. I have always been self conscience, but I was calm, relaxed, and comfortable around him. He understood all my questions and sometimes answered them before I could even ask. I would recommend Dr. Lord to anyone, anyday. He makes sure that you are knowledgable about the surgery before he sits you on the table. The only thing I didn't like is the waiting list.. But it was well worth it, and had nothing to do with him, it was out of his hands.
Dr lord is a great surgeon, he is very caring of his patients and can make you laugh while at the same time letting you know how serious things can be if you dont follow directions. The office staff may seem unreachable when you are in the pre op waiting period however when it comes time for enitial appointment you will be happy with the results and they take very good care of you post op. I only wish there was a way to get more help for the bariatric team they work very hard.
After my sugery dr lord himself came to check on my everyday untill i came home and that was comforting that he did not just pass me off to a resident. I also cannot forget dr fontana I do not know him as well but he was there with dr lord at all times.
The after care you will recieve is great and if you are doing something wrong the will let you know. Dr lord and his staff will tell you the way it is, weither or not you like it. there were no suprises and i am thank full for that.
Let me close by saying that this is a military hospital and i had a c-section at the same hospital and i had a horrible experience but this time i felt like i mattered and i was pleased by my care for the most part and if i had it to do all over again i would choose Dr lord.
Dr. Lord is very compassionate & to the point & has a wonderful bedside manner. He was very informative on all aspects (positive & negative) of the surgery. I have never had a doc that exhibited so much time & interest in my well-being. For those of you who are waiting for your surgery, it is definitely well worth the wait. I would also like to add that Dr. Fontana & Jan are also an integral part of this entire system. Throughout the waiting, surgery & now post-op periods, I consider them my extended family. Please feel as ease as you have "the best of the best" taking care of you! :-)
Overall rating:10+ (how can I rate when I had the best & couldn't compare). Take care all & enjoy the journey!
My first impression of Dr. Lord was the exhuberence and confidence he exuded. He was knowledgeable, painfully honest, straightforward, and basically just plain cocky, but in a very positive way. The way he explained my upcoming surgery and the empathy he showed for my health and welfare made me feel safe and my belief in him was one of total confidence. My confidence in Dr. Lord has never wavered throughout the entire time I have been his patient. Jan was excellent. She is very empathetic because she has been through the process herself. There is nothing I don't like about Dr. Lord, his assistant Dr. Fantana and Jan are just wonderful. Anyone that is lucky enough to be a patient of Dr. Lord's should feel like they've got the best surgeon possible. His professionalism is beyond reproach. He advised me that he would always be available but much of the responsibility now rests with me. He has himself written a " Blue Book." The book contains very thorough imformation on aftercare with guidance for diet and vitamins. It has served as a daily reference for me. I was advised of the risks that the surgery entailed. He was very candid about the potential downside of the surgery. I feel like I was totally blessed to have Dr. Lord as my surgeon. To me he was what I was looking for in a surgeon. His surgical competence, and bedside manner were excellent.
