' I feel my surgeon one of the most qualified in the field. He has done bariatric surgery on over 900 patients. His staff is supportive and caring. They offer free support groups meetings every two weeks. Follow-up care continues for an entire year. He has great way of relating to patients and putting them at ease. I felt completely safe in his hands. The only negative thing
Dr Genaw is a very caring and compasionate man. I am totally happy with my care under him and his staff thus far. He likes to tease and joke a bit which is the kind of personalty that I can relate to completely.
he empjasises after care alot.. The baratric program that he and his partner Dr Carlin run at Henry Ford Hospital is a full program. He feels and his staff does as well that sucess is not in the surgery but in the proper use of this tool afterwards.
My first impression of Dr. Genaw was that he is a no nonsense person. I liked him immediately. I was impressed that he did not rush the visit, he was willing to answer my three pages of questions and he even has a dry sense of humor. His staff are awesome, very kind and friendly. If you are not serious about losing weight, don't waste their time, because they are serious about what they can do for you.
Aftercare is very important and you should attend all appointments, they are structured, and it is nice when they can see the changes taking place. Dr. Genaw addressed all the risks of surgery and they do not feel bad if you have second thoughts and back out, they make that very clear. You must go into this venture 100%. I found Dr. Genaw to be completely competent, he ended up doing my surgery open instead
of lap because he tried lap and did not like how things were coming out. My incision is beautiful, no external stitches or staples, and really nice incision. He came to my room the day of my discharge, pulled up a chair, had we had a heart to heart talk, no rushing, and did not think any of my questions were stupid. He even was encouraging when I was putting myself down about the way I looked that day.(bloated, tired, my hair a mess)
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would give him a 10 ! I have nothing negative to say about him or Henry Ford Hospital, I had a great experience. This was my experience and in no way guarantees that you will have the same experience.
Dr Genaw is a great guy. A "9". You always have to leave a little bit of a margin for any kind of error or dislikes. No one is perfect. He makes sure you understand that this is for life. Once your committed to the surgery and willing to change your life; he will go ahead and book you for surgery. After surgery, your to return to see him as well as other supporting staff for follow-up care. Wanda and the staff are great as well. Any questions you have, they will find out the answer if they don't know. Dr Genaw can joke like the best of them but when it comes to surgery, he takes his job to the max. He gives you a tool, and it is up to you to use it after he gives it to you. There are hard times from the time you have your surgery to understanding how to use it. So, really research it and when your sure, really sure, go for it. It is a real change of life. Follow your new diet to a tea. There are real reasons that they say eat this way and this way only. Don't think that this surgery is an easy way to loose weight and look great thin. Overall, there is a lot of work for each person who goes though this surgery. Once you understand how it works, and work with it, your on the right side to a new life. If your going for it, enjoy your new life.
I have to say that Dr. Genaw is one kick ass of a doctor. The whole time I was in the hospital he visited me at least twice a day to see how I was doing. He has an excellent attitude about wanting to see his patients succeed in this adventure. On Sunday (Nov.21) he came in and looked me over and told me I could either go home then or on the Monday, most of the doctors that I have dealt with would have be strict about what they wanted. My parents were also impressed with Dr. Genaw and his staff. The whole Bariatric Program at Henry Ford Hospital is way above anything I had expected. I had heard good things about it, but until you actually experience it, that is when you know you have made the best choice in where to have this surgery done at.
My first impression of Dr. Genaw is he is a no nonsense, tell you like it is kind of guy. He wont sugar coat things and tell you things you want to hear. He is direct and to the point. However he will take time to talk to you and make sure you understand the procedure and what you are in for. I like the fact that he will take time and talk you, not doctor to patient but person to person. His office staff have all been very kind and more than helpful in setting up other appointments, etc. I have been seen on time at all my appointments by all doctors, no waiting in the lobby forever. This helps when scheduling around work schedules and othe things. He will make sure you are well informed about the surgery and the risks of the surgery. My trust level of Dr. Genaw is high, as he is confident and has left no questions unanswered. I have had no unpleasant experiences while doing the things required of me to have the surgery. I have been pleased with my experience, and can only hope my good experience will continue.
Dr. Genaw is wonderful, he also has an associate: Dr. Carlin is great as well. Dr. Carlin was my initial surgeon through my entire initial process, then on the actual day of surgery he became ill and Dr. Genaw offered to do the surgery. I agreed and was not disappointed at all.
The office staff is professional, caring and very efficient.
These Dr.s are very nice and friendly but very strict and no-nonscense when it come to this program.
The aftercare program is very structured and all patients are expected to follow it to the letter.
They addressed the risks by asking that I lose 30 pounds before surgery and explained the reasons why. On the last visit they go over the total risks of the surgery with you giving you a chance to back out. They are very honest and even talk about the chance of death.
I rate both of these doctors GREAT in all areas.
