Dr. Kane Jr. is so polite and really interested in the best intrests of the patient
After finding a problem in my UGI, he took the time to call me himself to inform me of what was going on. I was very impressed.
The entire staff was very pleasent.
There is nothing I dislike about him.
Future pateints should know that Dr. Kane really is a great doctor and he makes sure you are well treated.
He really makes sure you understand all that is involved with the surgery and that it is a total life style change.
It is mandatory that you go to a support group after.
He was honest about not only the mortality rate but also the failure rate.
I give him a 10 out of 10, if could give him more than that I would.
Both are very impressive.
My first impression of Dr. Kane was that this could be the man to save my life. I first saw him at the seminar. He really impressed me. When I met him at my consultation, He spent the first few minutes asking me about what I wanted out of this surgery. Then he LISTENED TO ME. Most Doctors speak to you as they're heading for the door. He was there every step of the way for me. Holding my hand before we went into surgery. I felt more sure and very relaxed about the surgery. He stopped to see me everyday in the hosptital or had one of his associates stop. And they aren't bad to look at either! I think the Weight for Life program worked fantastic with these doctors. It took me 6 months from my seminar date to surgery date and well worth the wait. I am about to go in for my 6 month checkup. I have gone down 4 sizes, 70 lbs, and 39 inches in these past 6 months. I owe it all to Dr. Kane Jr. I love you Dr. Kane!!! Thank you for giving me my life back.
My first impression of Dr. Kane was he was quite the professional and that impression has not changed. Not only is he competent and courteous; he surpasses his peers with his "bedside manner". His staff is equally as attentive.
What I liked least about him was that he is so cute, it was hard to concentrate on what he was saying.
The program I went through, Weight for Life are big advocates of aftercare. They are also looking to start a weekly support group meeting.
Be prepared--Dr. Kane doesn't pull any punches with the risks of surgery. He very directly stated, "you could die".
Overall, I would rate him EXCEPTIONAL.
Dr. Kane fromthe first meeting mad me feel like he knew me all my life. Such caring and compassion. I feel more like he is my frined tham my doctor. e is so easy to talk too, I never felt like "just another patient" i always felt like his only patient.Hi office staff is awesome, they are a great support group. After care to him is very important, after your surgery he doesn't make you fell like "ok, I am done with you". he treats you with even more caring. He did fill me in completely on the risks. I would rate him on a scale of 1-10 at least a "20". His seminar that he holds for incoming patients or people just thinking about it is fantastic, it answers every question you may have. The only issue I may have is that his office hours are very limited, soit is harf to get in without taking off work, but I can deal with that.
When I first met Dr. Kane Jr. he was very professional and actually sat down and listened to my concerns about this surgery. I have heard very good things about this group and that is why I decided to go with them. After my surgery Dr. Kane came to see me and he was very helpful when answering my questions etc... I will make it a point to tell whomever is interested in this surgery to go see Dr. Kane and his group.
I chose not to work with Dr.Vitello and finally decided to work with Dr.Kane Jr. at Weight For Life at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, IL. He is very easy to talk to and kind. He was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. His staff were friedly and efficient. I attended their seminar back in March and I knew then I should of worked with them, but they said it would take months for the surgery to be set and so I made a mistake and went with a doctor whom I was not comfortable just because it was quick approval..NOW I know that is not the right thing to do...I will do what is best for me..and I ended up taking my time and it took 3 1/2 months but I got my surgery date with Dr.Kane Jr. Friday November 15, 2002.
Met with Dr.Vitello at Michael Reese Hospital with the LIV-Lite Program on 7/18/2002. He looks exactly as his picture on the net. Dr.Vitello was very easy to talk to and a great listener and he didn't mind if you interrupted with your own questions regardless how long your list is. He was very personable and humble. Yes, he was very informative and NO, he did not scare the heck out of me with the surgery statistics. If others said that it was probably because they did not know what to expect. Since I studied all aspects of the surgery I was not otherwise scared from the consultation. Ask him anything and he will answer your questions. My pre-ops were scheduled for the very next day. Surgery in three (3) weeks.
I've only met with Dr. Kane Jr. once, and he was nice - not overwhelmingly friendly or super-personable, but nice. He eased my mind because everything seemed so "routine" for him and came across as very confident, in a good way. He definitely did explain all the risks thoroughly and wanted to be 100% sure I was making the right decision in doing this, which I appreciated. I love how they have their program set up - dealing with Weight For Life for insurance, classes, support groups, dr. apts., etc, was a blessing and a breeze, and the pre and post op care are very structured, providing much info. I'm sure he will be more personable when I have the surgery - I couldn't get much from 1 visit and going to his seminar. I actually will be dealing with my endocrinologist mostly, being a Type 1 diabetic for 17 years.
Ok, now a post-op, Dr. Kane couldn't be more sweet or supportive! He's great! He was the last one I remember seeing before going under, and I remember him completely easing all my fears and taking away all my anxiety -definitely a huge comfort. Thanks Dr. Kane!
6/10/02 - (Surgical Consult) Dr. Kane Jr. was fairly devoid of a personality at our first session. He was not so much clinical as he seemed distant. He was good at covering all the stuff about the surgery - I felt I am making a well-informed decision. I think he was just tired. He did get more animated when he was discussing how WLS changes the lives of his patients and it is a lifesaver for some. That convinced me that he really was a good doctor.
His office staff is very efficient and seem to know their stuff.
