My first impression of Dr. Foote was that he is a very caring man. He made sure that I knew exactly what I was in for. He took the time and answered all of mine and my husbands questions about the surgery. He never made me feel rushed. The atomosphere at the visits was casual and relaxing. I have never had reason to change my impression of him. His staff is very caring and attentitive to my concerns and needs. I liked him a lot but a lot of exams are deferred to his office internists or PAs so you don't get to see him very much. I had to ask to see him at least once for post-op follow-up because I kept getting scheduled for the PAs and I wanted to see him at least once. (For the record the PAs are awesome, very friendly and very helpful.) His aftercare program is the best! It is very structured. You return for follow-up appointments at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, one year and then yearly thereafter. You meet with the dieticians, PA or surgeon, the behaviorist, and an exercise physiologist. The dieticians help with what to add to your diet and when and address concerns regarding tolerance of foods. The behaviorist addresses any concerns you have with the behavior portion. The exercise physiologist sets you up with an exercise program that is fun and easy to stick with and it does get results. They also have surgical support groups every first and third Thursdays. They are there to help you all the way so that you can be successful. It is a very comprehensive program. I would rate Dr. Foote as excellent. Bedside manner and surgical competence was excellent as well. Dr. Foote also works with Dr. Kemmeter and Dr. Baker, who also are very skilled surgeons with great bedside manners.
My first impression was that he seemed like a regular guy, didn't try to overwhem you with big words or medical terms. He was down to earth, explained the entire process in detail, both the positives and negatives of the surgery. They have a very structured pre-op and post-op program. At the end of the 1+ hour interview he said I would be an outstanding candidate and said lets "git er done!" I'm looking forward to the next step
I was very impressed with Dr Foote. He did say I had to have a sleep apena test and an endoscopy. I got scheduled right away for the sleep study, the endoscopy, and the routine physical with a Dr Dawn White. I'm very greatful regarding the sleep study. It seems I stopped breathing 101 times per hour. Wow. I am now sleeping quietly through the night. I don't even wake up to go the bathroom.
I would have like to have my surgery before Thanksgiving, for my job gets very busy in December. I am on the cancellation list.
He gave me back my life. His skill and knowledge changed my world. My first impression of him was he seemed very young, but he has done this surgery so many times. I only saw him a couple of times since -- once before surgery, and once after. He was very caring and nice, and very professional. After-care is very important at MMPC -- there are dietitians, pyschologists, support groups, exercise specialists.
I don't know much about his bedside manner, although he was very nice. But as far as surgical competence goes, I think that's extremely important for an operation such as this.
Wow the first time we sat down with him he spent over an hour with us explaining and re-explining if we needed him too. He answered every question we had and he continues to keep up with this reputation thru my post-op time.
Besides his wonderful bedside manner he is also a great surgeon..while he was doing mine he noticed a tumor, removed it and spent the time "looking around in there" to make sure he couldn't find any other abnormalities. It did take me a few days and a few phone calls to finally get the results of my pathology report (all is OK!) but that has been the only setback I have had.
The staff and entire program at MMPC has been fantastic and one of the reasons I liked this program was the tremendous amount of both Pre and Post op care. You are not going to just have the surgery and be on your way. Dieticians, behavioralists, PA's nurses...they have all been wonderful!
I WAS IMPRESSESD FROM THE BEGINNING. HE AND HIS STAFF TREATED ME WITH RESPECT. MY OPINION HAS NOT CHANGED A BIT AND HIS STAFF GREETS ME WITH A SMILE EVERY TIME I GO THERE.
I WENT TO GRAND RAPIDS BECAUSE PATIENTS FROM MY PRIMARY DOCTORS OFFICE HAD GONE THERE AND WERE VERY PLEASED. DR FOOTE AND HIS STAFF INSIST ON A LOT OF BEFORE CARE AND AFTERCARE AND THEY ARE ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY. YES THE AFETRCARE IS STRUCTURED. YOU HAVE APPOINTMENTS AT 2-4-6 WEEKS 3-6 MONTHS AFTER AND A COUPLE MORE. YOU MEET WITH A PHSYCOLOGIST AND DIETIANS. I WOULD RECOMMEND DR FOOTE AND THE DOCTORS HE WORKS WITH TO ANYONE. HE REALLY CARES ABOUT YOU. MY ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO GRAND RAPIDS BUT THEY DID EVERTHING THEY COULD DO TO SHEDULE ME TWO APPOINTMENTS AT EACH VISIT TO CUT DOWN ON MY TRIPS.
professional talks straight with straight answers if asked
didn't
some of the most efficent professional people I have ever dealt with - totally supportive
lack of direct contact with him but understandable
ask the questions and he will answer you
tell him truthfully how you feel and you won't regret it
nothing to compare him with - never had an operation before - staff stresses that any questions or problems should be brought up and they don't seem to think anything isn't important
absolutely to the extent of almost mechanical
strongly - stated it was a very serious operation with many possible complications
right now very well - just had the operation 2 days ago
surgical competence - see me in 2 years
bedside manner - pleasant and concerned
Dr. Foote is a very educated & compassionate surgeon. The entire staff at MMPC pleasantly surprised me. Everyone was so kind and extremely helpful. It made my three-hour drives worth every penny. It's not often to find experience & education mixed with wholehearted encouragement. I felt as though I had been visiting their office for years. Dr. Foote explained in detail all risks and advantages of surgery. He is adamant on aftercare, which I'm grateful for as I feel it's an important asset towards success. I would highly recommend Dr. Foote and the entire staff at MMPC to anyone considering this surgery. Although the process may take longer than anticipated for some, it is totally worth the wait. I'd rather go through a longer process than be treated like cattle. Patience really is a virtue.
