I had a different type of first impression than most new patients. I met him when he came out of the O.R. to let us know about another family member. From the perspective of a family member waiting, he was wonderful. He answered all questions, and relieved my mind about a potential complication. He was very professional, but still knew when to throw in a little humor - a combo I really like. I have my initial consult with him in May 03. Today is 2/18/03 - still a looooong way to go!

6/2/03 When I went in for my initial visit, I didn't see Dr. Juarez, I saw a new surgeon in his office - Dr. Fang. He was great. I was having lots of problems with my gallbladder and we were planning on getting both surgeries taken care of at once. Things don't always work out the way you think they should. The gallbladder got so bad, I had that surgery right away. Dr. Fang did this as well. Very nice, great bedside manner, and answered all mine and my husband's questions. Once my wls is approved I have no problems with Dr. Fang doing that one as well.

Actually I have an appointment with the good Doctor on Oct. 9th, 2001. I was impressed by his seminar and look forward to meeting with him in about 2 weeks... Well today was the day, didn't see the Doc, but I did see Emil and he is great. I enjoyed his manner. Pretty cute too. update....
May 29,2003 ...While Dr. Juarez is not terribly talkative, I found him to be easy to talk to and a very talented surgeon. I was in surgery with open rny for 1 hour and 10 min. I have had 4 major surgeries in my life and this was the easiest yet. Recovery time for me was about 3 weeks. I just had my 1 year check-up, am officially down 87# and feel great. My 1 year appointment was with Dr. Fang, the new associate Dr in Dr. J's office. He was great, explained lots and answered all of my questions whitout being rushed. I would recommend Dr. J to anyone.

5-13-03: I have not met him in person yet, just went to his siminar. I was very impressed with his understanding of the problems both physical & emotional MO people face. The office staff seam very friendly if a little overworked. So far that is my only complaint, he is so popular it takes forever to get an appt & he is booking out 4-6 months for surgery. Aftercare is very important to him & he works closely with the weight loss center at St. Lukes hospital. They have a structured program for post op care, nutrition & recovery. I just got my surgery date yesterday, it is 9-29-03 so I'll let you know more after I have had more contact with him & his staff.

Dr. Juarez seemed to be very knowledgeable, capable and approachable coupled with a bedside manner that included a dry wit.

My impression has not yet changed.

The office staff is ok, but the office manager Jennifer, is absolutely fantastic. She is very helpful and a real pleasure to work with.

I had a problem with my assigned insurance person so I contacted the manager and it was smooth sailing after that.

Future patients should be pro-active when working with the physician office staff. Ask the physician office staff to keep you informed every stage of the approval process.
Don't be timid when following up with the insurance company's medical management team either directly or through the doctor’s office staff.

Aftercare was emphasized by giving me names and dates of post surgical meetings that should be attended monthly. I don't quite know how structured the aftercare program.

Dr. Juarez spoke with me during our office visit and explained the potential risk.

I will be able to rate Dr. Juarez better after the surgery. So far so good!

Well surgical competence is absolutely the most important and bedside manner is important however, a distant second.

I FIRST MET DR. JUAREZ AT HIS SEMINAR. I WAS IMPRESSED BY HIM. HE CAME RIGHT OUT AND TOLD US THE GOOD AND ALSO THE RISKS INVOLVED. HE EXPLAINED HOW THESE SURGICAL PROCEDURES ARE TOOLS TO HELP YOU WITH A LIFE TIME COMMITMENT,THAT ONLY ME, MYSELF CAN MAKE. I THEN MET HIM IN HIS OFFICE FOR MY CONSULT. I WAS NOT TO IMPRESSED WITH THE FIRST PERSON WHO WENT IN TO TALK TO ME, COULD NOT MAKE HIM UNDERSTAND MY INSURANCE WOULD NOT APPROVE RNY BUT LOOKS LIKE THEY MIGHT APPROVE LAP BAND. BUT DR. JUAREZ WAS GREAT (GAVE ME HOPE)GOOD VIBS. HIS OFFICE IS VERY BUSY BUT OVER ALL VERY NICE OFFICE STAFF. I WILL BE DEALING WITH JACKIE. I HAVE ONLY TALKED TO HER ONCE OR MAYBE TWICE AND SO FAR SHE SEEMS VERY PLEASANT.

My first encounter with Dr. Juarez was at his information seminar that all his patients have to attend prior to the initial consultation. The program at St. Luke Hospital in Phoenix is a well rounded program with emphasis on the psychological and nutritial needs of the patient. There is also a support group that you can attend. I have not meet with the surgeon personally yet. My consultation was with Emile, the surgeons PA. He was very knowlegable and was able to answer all my questions. I've heard nothing but praise about Dr. Juarez he is the best in the business, an excellent surgeon. His staff is great.

I was very impressed with Dr. Juarez. Have only met him once. Will complete after the surgery which is May 8th.

I had my surgery 10/4/02. I never saw Dr Juarez until I was in the pre-op holding room. My initial consult was with Emile, his P.A., who is great. Dr Juarez has the typical surgeon's personality. His practice is too busy and patients get minimal attention. He is a skilled surgeon, however. His office staff is the most inept I have ever dealt with, and they make no effort to improve. You have to be knowledgable about the surgery and proactive if you are to survive the experience. At my 3rd post-op visit I made it clear I would never be back. I waited an hour for a 3 minute visit. My time can be better spent elsewhere. I will continue follow up with my Internist, who will give me individualized care.

he was polite and very busy but took a little time to let me know about the proceedure, i am researching alot on my own which is a good thing.

i have only saw him one time so my impression has not changed due to that fact

office staff was polite and helpful at all times

he seemed to be a very nice man

he is very busy dont expect alot of time with him

never got around to the aftercare, the office staff sent me a diet program and surgery instruction, like i said i am doing alot of the research on my own and aftercare will fall into it

he told me that there were risks that could land me back into the hospital but that the percentages were quite low

i would rate him as good so far

i will take surgical competence over bedside manner anytime bedside manner is a great plus

Didn't see him until day of surgery, only saw his PA.
Dr. Juarez is a very competent doctor, his bedside manner is a little lacking but he more than makes up for it in skill.
