my aunt found dr. spivak through a great recomendations of doctors and surgeons she works with. so right after she told me i called up the office and found out about a seminar that i had to attend. i signed up for the seminar and found out more information on the surgery. a couple of months went by and a friend of mine wanted to know about the surgery so we went to another seminar.
when i met dr. spivak i felt that he was a caring, soft spoken individual who knew a lot and was very interested in answering all the questions that a person may have.
i spoke to his staff a lot on the phone through out the approval and pre-op testing stages. they were very helpful and very nice. (i am glad cause i bugggggggeeeeddddd them a lot!)
when you meet dr. spivak do not be afraid to ask him or his staff any and all questions that you may have about anything.. they will answer and they will ask you if you have any questions.
overall i would rate dr. spivak a 9.5
I saw the Dr in an office in Park Plaza in the Med Center. The reception area was rather spartan and my guess was that it was a newly added location. The actual examining office appeared well equipped. The Dr and staff were friendly and patient in explaining options and procedures. I was denied after the first letter. The denial letter took 30 days to arrive from the insurance. I thought there was no hope because they told me they don't approve Adjustable lap band surgery and suggest I try the alternatives. After care was strongly emphasized during the initial consultation. The surgical risks were clearly spelled out in the usual manner, up to and including death.
I went to the seminar and it was very informative. My first impression is that he is very knowledgable about the procedures and I like the fact he is very involved in the medical community by writing articles and attending many scientific meetings. He is very friendly and personable. My consult is next week and I will tell you more.
Dr. Spivak is personable, professional, and knowledgeable. What more could a patient ask for?
I believe he was up-front about all aspects of the lap band and the surgery.
The office has gotten quite busy in the past several months and you might have trouble getting past the voice mail, but be patient. My dealings with everyone there have been very good. I suppose the only negative thing I have to comment on is the fact that they are very busy, but that can also be looked at as a positive. Who would want to see a doctor that has no patients? :)
I give my full recommendation for Dr. Spivak!
I attended his mandatory pre-consult seminar. It was very informative and he was very nice. He was not judgemental and he also knows that obesity IS a disease. He appeared to be genuinely care about our well being.
He also described the aftercare and said that if we could not stick to the schedule of visits or the recommended diet then we should not have the surgery.
He explained all of the risks in a way that we could all understand. He answered all of our questions and was very honest about the complications that could arise.
I believe he will be a wonderful surgeon. He is very personable and cares about his patients and what he can do for them.
I Look Forward to my surgery and will keep everyone updated on the progress.
To me Dr. Spivak, is the very best he took time on the initial visit answered all 50 of my questions. Gave me the good the bad and everything in between. He was ok with answering my husbands questions and concerns. Never rushed or pushed just educated me.
I have an even higher opion for Dr, Spivak today thanever before.
The office staff is A+ they work really hard and get results.
The thing I guess I like least is location I wish he was next door ;)
He no longer does the RNY ;(
He is proactive for follow up care and rightly so.
They implemented one the lady that started came to see me in the hospital. I jsut live to far to be active.
The risks were covered extremely well.
I rate Dr. Spivak and staff A++++++++
He is fantastic in all areas.
2/14 I attended the required seminar given by Dr. Spivak yesterday. It was informative, but mostly covered general questions that I have already done research on. It was a long 3 hour drive to Baytown, but I feel it was worth it. Dr. Spivak was very soft spoken, but his confidence in the LAGB has convinced me that this is the right wls for me.
