Gus Slotman Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Very organized in presenting what the surgery is all about and what is entailed. Very concerned that all medical issues are addressed before a date is even scheduled to make sure there are no complications at surgery. He's very up-front about whether you're a viable candidate for the surgery and would not carry through if he felt you are in any danger. I felt very comfortable in choosing him as my surgeon.
My impression has only gotten better. I have several doctors dealing with other medical issues. Each of them gave him glowing recommendations.
The office staff has been great. They make sure that everything is covered and walk you through the process.
For future patients, I'd say that you be very up front about other medical issues so that he's on top of anything that could affect your surgery and recovery.
Actually, Dr. Slotman emphasizes both PRE-care via support groups and researching the process, AND post care...staying with support groups, understanding the food regimen, etc. He provides very detailed information about aftercare; plus Lourdes staff that cares for his bariatric patients have an "education" session with you ahead of time to go over each day of your post-surgical care and what you need to do to succeed at healing well.
With me, I had previous surgery about 18 years ago for an intestinal blockage...which there are no records for after all this time. So, Dr. Slotman was VERY up-front about what the risks are.
I'd say he's an excellent surgeon; his reputation with other doctors is very high.
Right now I'd have to say his surgical competence is better. He was very factual and efficient in my office visit which I appreciate since I deal with so many doctors. I won't be able to rate his actual bedside manner until my surgical stay and beyond.
Dr. Slotman was very friendly I felt like I was talking to a family member. I asked a lot of questions and he was very honest and to the point. He didn't pull no punches didn't try to sugar coat anything. I respect him very much for that even though it scared me a little I'd rather him be honest. On a scale of 1-10 so far he gets a 10!
He was very friendly but to the point. Je tells the facts and what you will not be able to do after surgery. He doesn't sugar coat it. His office staff is very friendly and has made every step of the process easy. He is very funny. He does have a strict after-care plan and makes sure he reminds you of it every chance he gets. He wants you to be healthy and happy and that definatly comes out when you talk to him. He is also really great at making you feel comfortable prior to surgery and after.
The only thing that I did not feel comfortable with at first was the way I was sat in a room my first visit with a few other "maybe's" and watched a movie about the surgery. I realize now that it is to push out those who really don't want it from those who do, But it was a little uncomfortable at first.
GREAT DOCTOR- FIRST SEEMED NOT TO BE VERY PERSONAL, BUT ONCE I BECAME HIS PT, HE WARMED UP QUITE NICELY.
HIS OFFICE STAFF IS FANTASTIC. EVERYBODY IS SOO SWEAT AND UNDERSTANDING.
DR. SLOTMAN IS A GREAT SURGEON- VERY FINE-TUNED.
HE HAS A GREAT AFTERCARE SYSTEM AND A FREE SUPPORT GROUP.
I LOVED DR. SLOTMAN AND WOULD'T GO WITH ANYBODY ELSE- AND I DID MY HOMEWORK PRIOR TO CHOOSING HIM.
I enjoyed visiting with Dr. Slotman and his staff. Shirley has been especially helpful. Although the wait was long for the initial consultation, it is well worth it. I went there wanting the surgery, and was advised to seek clearance from different specialty doctors before I could have a date scheduled. Dr. Slotman answered all my questions and completely explained the risks and benefits of the surgery. I have not really gotten much talk about aftercare, but I was advised I would have more details closer to the surgery date. Only a month to go......please hurry lol.
