My first impression of Dr. Jossart was that he was very proffessional. He was willing to do what it takes to meet his patients needs but would not cut any corners in the overall surgical/approval process.
Dr Jossart seemed a bit arrogent when discussing his abilities, however after comparing his results to the national average I chose (and would again and again)his amazing surgical skill over all else.
Prior to surgery I had only one communication problem which Dr. Jossart responded to from vacation. I feel that our pre-surgery communication was minimal but that was mostly because I did not have any unanswered questions after our initial consult.
The day of surgery was a bit confusing Friday I recieved a call from Natalie (Dr. Jossart's assistent) confirming my OR time for 1:30 and arrival time of 11:30 we arrived at 11:00 to find that surgery was not scheduled until 3:05. Other than that the Doctor was amazing; he kept things light going itno surgery, he checked in with me twice in my 24 hour stay and has followed up with me at home. I had amazing nurses and was well cared for.
Here I sit, 4 days post op. Still experienceing alot of gas pain, but mobile and keeping things down. I feel the procedure has been a success but only time will tell.

I went to Dr. Jossart on May 9 of 2008 after being referred by a friend who had VG surgery done by him in 2007. Our first meeting was pleasant and informative. I had already had extensive experience with WLS with my wife who had a stapling in 1981. He detailed out the pre and post care scenarios for me and I felt comfortable with his demeanor and capabilities. I believe he felt that I understood the care issues and did not force any specific aftercare regime on me. rnrnI have a PhD in digestive physiology and so understood the physiological and mechanical effects from the surgery. After an extended discussion of the procedures available, I decided that a VG was the most appropriate. We scheduled the surgery for June 4, 2008 and I began the pre-op workup. Throughout teat process, Dr. Jossart's staff was extremely available and ready to help. rnrnThe surgery was performed on June 4 and I went home the next day. I took the food package purchased from his office and began the next phase of my life. I have lost a total of 135 pounds as of October 2009. rnrnI feel that his care has been appropriate, measured and seamless. I have found his office staff caring and capable. I believe his experience with the VG and the post-surgical effects provides a positive outcome to the patient who really wants to change and heal themselves.

I had my initial consult with Dr. Jossart and found him to be quite pleasant. He seemed to be very honest and straight forward. He explained all the procedure options that would be best for me and warned me of all possible risks etc. He took into consideration the fact that I was self paying and we chose the Vertical Sleeve as the most effective option for the money and my needs. Had my surgery was 11/2/04, Dr. Jossart was amazing as well as his staff. I would definately recommend him.

09/04/09 VISIT TO Dr.: I think this quote from Dr. Jossart sums up my visit: "Marci, I would be proud to parade you in front of a group of weight loss surgeons as an absolute success story". I was so happy and relieved! My 5 year anniversary date is 11/2/09 and I managed to stay in my goal range. I'm still limited on the amount of food I can eat and overall I feel great. I did remind Dr. J. that I still haven't had my extra skin removed so therefore I actually weigh less! He smiled and agreed. lol

11/2/2011: Today marks my 7 year surgery anniversary & I am proud to say I am maintaining at my goal weight. Dr. J will forever be my hero!

My first imppression of Dr. Jossart was that he was a very intelligent and helpful doctor. I had lots of questions and he answered everyone of them. He was very up front about all of my risks. I was approved very fast....The doctor was even shocked about it. He didn't even think I would get approved. I had my procedure done open. Can't believe I was only on pain meds for a couple of days. Had to be in the hospital for 7 days. Dr. Jossart came to see me at least once everyday and sometimes twice. I totally recommend him for anyone interested in having the surgery. He has an execellent staff. I'm not from San Francisco so we talked by phone quite often. Nice that he comes to Chico once in awhile so I will see him when he comes here for a postop appointment. I'm sure I'll have to travel to the city sometimes but thats ok. I would rate Dr. Jossart and his team as a 20 out of 10 he is an awesome Doctor.

Postive first impression. We had a long first visit. He answered all of my questions re. VSG.I have a postive impression of him that hasn't changed over time. His office staff is pleasant (everyone there was skinny though). He or the other doctor he works with-Dr. Cirangle answer patients' calls on off hours within minutes! There are monthly support groups which he encourages all patients to attend. The groups start at different times for pre-op and post op patients. The consent I signed for surgery was 20+ pages long. I was well aware of possible postoperative problems.I rate him exellent-both in surgical competence and bedside manner. He has performed over 1,000 vertical gastrectomies so I knew I was in good hands!

UPDATE - 1 YEAR POST OP (VSG)rnI am now 197.5 pounds. I still email Dr. Jossart on various questions from time to time and despite the fact that he is incredibly busy, he still makes it a point to respond. His knowledgable staff is also there for questions as well. I think that both Dr. Jossart and Dr. Cirangle are very sincere in their desire to help obese patients succeed. I still utilize their post op packet. rnrnI have not regretted my choice of surgery or my surgeon. rnrnMy only regret is that I wish I lived closer to take full advantage of LAPSF's excellent follow up care and peer support groups. That being said, LAPSF's dieticians have offered telephone conferencing that has proved beneficial. rnrn*****rnOriginal PostrnDr. Jossart fulfilled my expectations as a highly skilled and knowledgeable surgeon. From the first time I met him, I could tell that he was an individual passionate about what he does. He is very generous in sharing his vast knowledge of the various procedures and wants his patients to make a decision which is best suited for them. He is patient and he is a very good listener. To him no question is dumb. I believe that he is earnest is wanting to see each of his patients succeed from day one.rnHis staff? They are amazing! From finance to front office, each and every staff member will extend every courtesy possible in educating you in all facets of the bariatric process. Many of the protein supplements needed immediately after post op are readily available through LAPSF. The dietician is available for consultation and the PA Christine is incredible too!rnThe follow up care is exceptional. Dr. Jossart expects you to read your information packet and read it well. I read my 20 times over and it is filled with so much great material I get most of my questions answered just by reading. However, should anything serious arise, they expect you to call them and will provide you with a number. They will call you back within an hour or two, no matter what time of the day it is.rnThe risks are laid out to you in the packet you receive after your initial consultation and he does go over the risks in detail during the actual consult. (Obesityhelp has a good list of the various risks as well!)rnDr. Jossart has an excellent bedside manner and as a surgeon I believe that he and Dr. Cirangle are pioneering the way to greater advances in Bariatric Surgery.

Very engaging and enthusiastic. You can tell he loves what he does. He is informative and is willing to answer any questions. My husband had a question and Dr Jossart called him within one hour to answer his question. I have gone to a number of surgeon's support groups and both my husband and I found Dr Jossart's group the most attened and his post op patients seemed to be in agreement they were very happy with their weight loss and with his surgical expertise. His office staff is supportive and encouraging. The nutritionist Amy is available any time I need her.rn Marilyn, & Lauren, to name a few were more than helpful to me prior to surgery and after surgery. Dr Jossart maybe a little more money but his surgical skills and aftercare is superior. Monthly support group, available by phone, and patients care seems very important to him and his staff. They want each and everyone to suceed and to be as sucessful as possible. They follow every step of the process. I have the utmost respect for Dr Jossart not only as the most skilled surgeon but his patient education and attention to details.rnI rate Dr Jossart a 12!!!!! rnrn

I couldn't get a prompt email response, and the office was fairly close by, so I dropped in to make an appointment. Luckily Jossart saw me right then and there. They have quite an inclusive program way beyond the surgery, stressing support group participation and consultation with the onsite nutritionist. You come away feeling that they know exactly what they're doing. But perhaps because of this, this is not your hand-holding type of practice; you're obese? these are the possible surgical solutions; this is the commitment it will take from you, and this is what we will do. This is what it costs. Very matter of fact, professional.

Caring, knowledgeable, superb surgical skills, and reassuring bedside manner. This describes Dr. Jossart. He performed my VG surgery about a year ago and I'm extremely pleased with both the process and the outcome. I was a lower BMI patient (<35) and I was so relieved to find a world-class surgeon who was addressing this population. He quickly directed me away from bypass surgeries since my BMI was not an appropriate match and explained the lap-band and VG benefits and risks in easy to understand language. His practice is a Center of Excellence so the support is excellent and there is extremely strong emphasis on follow-up care. If I could change one thing, it would be that follow up appointments after the 3 month mark are only scheduled at the beginning of each month so you need to \"schedule\" a time to call to get an appointment. If I was doing this all over again, I would choose Dr. Jossart in a heartbeat. rnrn
