Garth Davis Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS, FASMBS

I haven't met him yet, but I have an appt on July 26th!

I am still in the approval process, but I went to four separate seminars for lapband doctors and Dr. Davis was without a doubt the one I felt most comfortable with. He is the head of the bariatrics program at Methodist Hospital, and that is impressive in itself. rnrnThus far his staff has been unbelievably responsive and knowledgeable. My calls are returned the same day and everyone is pleasant and makes no attempt to rush the conversation.rnrnSo far they get an A+!

I had the greatest experience with Dr. Garth Davis. He has a great bedside manor and I had no problems with his office staff. Dr. Davis even lets you email him and he can answer simple questions that way.

My first impression of Dr. Davis was that he had personality and was not stuffy. He seemed to have a sense of humor, yet remained very professional. I got the distinct impression that when it comes to being a surgeon, he is a perfectionist. He has a \"zero\" mortality rate and plans to keep it that way. This is certainly something to be proud of and one of the reasons I considered Dr. Davis, as well as the fact that he practices at The Methodist Hospital. His educational and professional accomplishments are profound. He comes highly recommended. His office staff is great. He dictated my letter to insurance before I left, Tricia had my file submitted to insurance within 4 days, and I received approval 4 days later.

Dr.'s Davis practice is absolutely dedicated to excellence in all fields of surgery that they practice and they have had a long standing reputation for providing the latest and the best surgical care to their patients. Not only do they have an extremely professional practice they take a very special interest in tackling the disease of obesity and in their patients. They have created a comprehensive weight loss center at The Methodist Hospital and have been doing gastric bypass and expanded to include, more recently, lap band. They have designed a comprehensive aftercare program so that their patients can learn how to use their \"tool\" more effectively. They provide compassionate care and are always available for their patients in times of need. My only negative deals with the response time for telephone calls during the approval process. Most answers took a minimum of two days to be received through office staff. rnrnI have felt that Dr. Davis shows his professionalism at all times but additionally is both compassionate and caring to all his patients. Dr. Garth Davis participates in the monthly support group meetings and is always available to answer questions that may come up as each patient goes through the learning curve of this new lifestyle. He was very thorough during the process leading to surgery in explaining the surgery, any complications that may arise and what to expect following surgery.rnrn

First he quite good looking and young, learned he is age 37. He sounded knowledgeable about obesity and gastric bypass and also sounded genuinely concerned and compassionate about the plight of the obest. He truly believes the emotional health of the surgical candidate is extremely important and specifically understands emotional eating and food as a best friend. He seems to have a busy practice, lots of activity both times I went to his office. His staff strikes me as disorganized and the faces have changed from my visit in May versus my visit per op in November. The office manager trys to keep everything moving I can tell and she is very knowledgeable about insurance issueslrnMy impression of Dr. Garth has only gotten better now that I am post op. He obviously is good at what he does, even used a pain free material for the drain and I did not feel a thing when he pulled it. He emphasizes aftercare from the beginning information seminar. He even attends the support groups at Methodist on the last Wednesday of each month. I will learn more about aftercare when I seem him this coming Thursday but sometime soon I meet with he, the nutritionist, the psych, for an hour. These folks always go to support meetings. Their statistics show those who participate in support groups and take their vitamins and follow pouch rules lose and maintain the best.rnHe discussed the risks at our first meeting and at his seminar and they are covered in detail in the preop consent form. His and his father's stats show low complication rates, and no deaths.rnI think he is excellent overall, both in surgical competence and bedside manner. I tend to be critical of surgeons in particular from my nursing background but he is truly unique.

We heard only good things about him and his father. We felt very at ease meeting with him at the consult and feel like he really understands and is really trying to help you. We are very pleased. rnrn10 months later...rnMom and I have nothing but GREAT things to say about our surgeon...we recommend him to any one that is looking into surgery. He really does care about the success of his patients!! He's usually even at every single support group meeting.... Dr Garth Davis was extremely knowledgable and informative. He provided an extensive overview of the history and methods of wls . He detailed risks, advantages, and the importance of aftercare. I don't believe he omitted anything and he certainly didn't sugar coat either. He stressed the importance of follow-up, the life long changes this requires and how dedicated you must be in order to be successful with this surgery.rnrnHis staff is exceptional as well. They can't do enough to help with this experience! I had an appointment two days after attending the information session. At that office visit, Dr Garth had sufficient time for questions from my husband and me. I know Dr. Garth is an answer to prayers and I look forward to the months ahead in earnest. He is definitely one of the angels put in my path to help me reach my goal!
