The Pre-Op journey so far with Dr. Garth Davis and the staff at the Davis Clinic has all been great so far. No hiccups, no road blocks, just helpful and very informal. I think your view and opinion of the surgery itself with have a lot to do with the attitude you have, but The Davis Clinic, is very supportive and very knowledgable.
I had a DS with Dr. Garth Davis on 9/27/11. So far (5 weeks out) could not be happier.
My initial impression was positive, but I was worried he wouldn't support my desire for a DS. I was wrong. For my case (53 BMI, 42 years old, sleep apnea the only co-morbidity) he was very supportive. After completing the preop nutrition class and other requirements, his staff quickly obtained insurance approval and called to schedule a surgery date. We set the date and in just a few weeks I was switched. The surgery was textbook, and the experience in the hospital (Memorial Hermann Memorial City) was very positive. The RN who cared for me on day shift actually was a 2 year post op DS patient, which was just an amazing inspiration.
Relative to after care, the Davis Clinic has a strong emphasis both on nutrition as well as DS specific vitamin/supplement regimen. Although the Davises are relatively new (the last year or two) to performing the DS, their clinical director comes from a practice which had been doing DS's for years. Its reassuring to have such a solid team beyond just the surgeon looking out for you.
My surgeon is Garth Davis in Houston, TX and he was one of the best doctors that I have ever had! He was always so professional and whenever I saw him he always had a smile on his face...which is very important to me. When I saw him for the first time on the morning of my surgery I immediately felt a sense of calm and comfort because that is the vibe that he gives you when you talk to him. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon because I was well taken care of and informed pre-and post operatively.
I had quite a bit of scar tissue and Dr. Davis told me the day I had surgery that the surgery was very difficult but was a success. Dr. Davis is kind, informative, caring, capable, funny, interesting. I decided three years ago that he would be my doctor to "fix" me and he did. I had 'no' pain from day one. I am amazed at his skills....I would recommend him to anyone looking to take this journey.
Dr. Garth is the best, he and his dad. My husband just had our surgery the week preceeding christmas. We are now at home recovering. I have felt so at home with Dr. Garth, he has a wonderful yet professional relationship with his patients. We found out while we were in the hospital that "you don't mess with Dr. Garth or his Dad's patients". We had an issue on the floor where my husband was and we called our doctor, they called right back and straightened it out right away. After that we were treated like royalty!!! My first impression was that Dr. Garth was a kind and caring doctor, he asked how we felt with the way we were at the time, and from then on that first impression has stuck, the same doctor, the same professional, caring doctor. THe office staff is great also, they answer your questions immediately. I recommend the Davis Clinic to anyone who is looking in to having surgery for weight loss. After care is emphasized to the fullest. He addressed all of my risks and fears of surgery thoroughly. Overall, the image he and his father projected on their TV series "Big Medicine" is actually what you get in person. We Love You Dr. Garth!
