My first impression of Dr. Wynn was a little weary. I have never had a woman surgeon perform surgery on me before. Once I talked to her, she let all that go. She was wonderful. She explained all the risks to my husband and I and answered all of my questions. It was hard to get an appointment with her, but once I did, I was happy I waited for her. She works with a center called Preventive Medician and Rehab Institute in Wilmington, Delaware for before and after care programs. I would rate her very well for this surgery. I have already recommended her to someone else for this surgery.
Dr. Wynn is a general surgeon. I had the impression that she could stay busy full-time performing gastric bypass surgery, but doesn't want to do that because she needs to retain her surgical skills for other procedures. She is calm and confident, and was able to explain the procedure and answer questions so that it could easily be understood by a layperson. She always operates with her partner, Dr. Irgau, and is now performing it exclusively laparoscopically. She doesn't publicize the fact that she is doing it, as she can stay busy enough by word of mouth. She also indicated that she finds people who come to her are better informed, and therefore more likely to be more successful post-op. Screening is done by Preventive Medicine & Rehabilitation, a division of Christiana Care. There I met with a nurse practitioner, dietician, psychologist, and physician. There is a monthly support group that meets there as well, but I have not yet been able to attend that. They will be following me for the rest of my life. They even have an exercise program, where I won't have to be intimidated by the "Spandex set." I was also referred to a pulmonologist, Dr. O'Brien, as part of the screening, to determine whether or not I had sleep apnea. This will determine whether I need special treatment as I recover from the anesthesia. Dr. Wynn has been very upfront about the risks: nicking the spleen and needing to remove it, among other things (it hasn't happened yet, but no guarantees), and the limitations afterward. Office staff has been friendly and helpful, and it turns out that Judy, the nurse who deals with the insurance companies, is an old friend; she is very approachable, and would be with anyone. The only negative was a long wait, the date of my first appointment, but this goes with the territory, and when my turn came, I wasn't rushed. My second time I had the first appointment after lunch and was actually seen early.
My first impression of Dr. Wynn was "Good heavens she's young!!" I was suprised at her soft spoken manner and her gentle approach. She explained everything in complete detail and answered ALL my questions. Her staff is very friendly. Dr. Wynn is very adamant about after care. You must understand prior to surgery what is expected of you. She insists on strict followup with PMRI and herself. I think she and her staff are FABULOUS!!
HAVE APPT TO SEE HER ON 9-20-01 DONT HAVE INFO ON HER ONLY THAT SHE TAKE FIRST STATE IN. I MEET HER AND SHE IS A GOOD PERSON THAT WANT TO HELP ALL OF US WITH THE WL. SHE ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS SHE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO KNOW. SHE ADDRESS THE RISK OF THE SURGERY AND HAS A AFTERCARE PROGRAM.THE OFFICE STAFF WAS NOT GREAT BUT I DID LIKE JUDY. OVER ALL DR WYNN IS A GREAT PERSON.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Wynn. My experience with her began when she did my daugher's surgery. She is confident and relaxed and conveys that to her patients. We have never felt rushed during our visits. When my daugher went through her surgery Dr. Wynn explained all we needed to know, answered all our inquiries; no question felt foolish. Now she is going to operate on me, hopefully.
dr. wynn is affiliated with PMRI. they provide prescreening, precare, aftercare, nutritional, and an entire host of programs for this surgey plus a monthly group meeting.
I rate Dr. Wynn. she is accessable; caring competent with a wonderful bedside manner.
Dr. Wynn was very friendly and down to earth. She did not try to sugar coat anything which I appreciate. I was very impressed with how thorough the evaluation is before they will submit the paperwork to the insurance company. I feel like consideration is being given to every aspect of my health. I was glad she does it lap. I would definitely recommend her to anyone thinking of having the surgery.

My first impression of Dr Wynn was good. She was very nice and easy to speak to. I did not feel rushed through any of my questions, and immediately felt support from her and confidence in her. Her office staff could not have been more helpful. I had multiple tests to schedule after leaving the office, and they were very patient with all my phone calls and questions. I havent had my surgery or even pre-op appointment yet (surgery date 3/4/02) so will probably have more information later. My initial impression was good and I would HIGHLY recommend her and her staff.
