I attended a seminar in laurel county ,Dr.Nieghbert was the surgeon there .I have such good feelings about him and his program. He put me at ease right away.I have severe panic at times, but felt no fear as he in detail explained the pros and cons of the surgerys.I feel I can put my life in his and his programs hands.Since the seminar I have met with the internist ,exercise physiologist.dietictian, and took a psyche exam.tonight I attended the nutrition seminar. On the 21st I have a E.G.D,E.K.g.,AND meet with the psychiatrist.they have a complete plan. And the bonus is I lost 7.5 pounds on the pre-op diet, yay
I would suggest Dr. Nighbert to anyone that is willing to drive the the Lexington, KY area. It is about an 1 1/2 hr drive for me but every minute is worth it. I will never forget last October 2004 when we went for the first meeting. The whole staff made you feel very welcome and that the problem of my weight was something that could be taken care of with an effort from me. Any questions I had were always answered or if any immediate answer was not given they were quick to call back. After the first meeting and I decided I was going for it, I filled out my paperwork and they handled the rest. I was going all the time for all the pre-op testing that was needed and any other visits that they deemed nescessary. As a matter of fact when they called me and told me I was approved they wanted me to have surgery on March 30 and I had to postpone to April 26. I feel anyone in this group would be beneficial to anyone choosing to have this surgery, but I felt like Dr. Nighbert was right for me and my husband was more comfortable with him.
When I first met Dr. Nighbert, I knew that he would be the best surgeon for me. He was very patient and explained things completely. He treated me like a friend instead of a patient. His office staff is the best. Whenever I have a question, I just call and they are very kind. Dr. Nighbert's bedside manner was great. He was very attentive while I was in the hospital. He and his staff put lots of emphasis on aftercare and have a highly regarded program.
Compassionate, wonderful bedside manner, very caring. Office staff is great, always available to answer any questions I may have. I would highly recommend Dr. Neighbert to anyone considering WLS. The aftercare program is absolutely the best that anyone could hope for. Each month the support group is attended by Dr. Neighbert, Dr. Steiner, and Dr. Greenlee, along with their office staff, nutritionalist, and exercise physiologist. They answer any questions we may have and open the office after hours for B12 injections, supplements, etc. Prior to surgery the center several required seminars that address risks, benifits, etc. Dr. Neighbert was totally honest that there would be good days and dog days. Overall I would rate him and his office a 10 on a 1-10 scale. Great experience and it has totally changed my life for the better.
I haven't met him yet.I've seen him at the support meetings. My consult with him is on the 4th of Aug.I have heard alot of good things about him.

i met with Dr. Nighbert yesterday and hes is very nice!!Made me feel very comfortable right away. I feel very confident in his abilites as a Dr. and as a person. All of the staff are very friendly and concernedabout your well-being. I felt like I was with real good friends, instead of prfestionals.

My surgery went well!!!!!!!!! i finnally made it to the other side!!!!!' Dr. Nighbert was very nice during the surgery and after. I'm so glad I picked him. His whole staff is very nice and friendly.
Actually, not picked one yet is a bit of a misnomer. I have started seeing the St Joe's Center for Weight Loss Bariatric program. I do not know who my surgen will be as I am not that far yet. So far I have met with Amanda, the dietician and really liked her. I also saw the internist Dr. Staben and she was really nice and actually knew about PCOS. I liked her too. I attended the seminar and everyone seems wonderful. I just need to deal with the time between now and surgery (hopefully March).
Update 6/3/04
I ahve not yet met with Dr. Nighbert, but I have all the confidence in the group. I meet him on the 9th. I have neard nothing but good and expect the same experience.
Being a post-op I was very nervous about switching physicians. After 2 minutes with Dr. Nighbert all those concerns were gone. He was great and so was his staff. EVERYONE I came in contact with at their office was wonderful. They have a wonderful aftercare program. I got an appointment with their office very quickly. When I went for my appointment I met Dr. Nighbert, his P.A., the dietician, and the exercise physiologist. I think it is great that the dietician and the exercise physilolgist are in his office. You could tell that the staff enjoy working there, that they work as a team, and that they really care. (BIG difference from what I was used to)
I have talked to numerous post-ops and the ones that seem most successful are from his office. I firmly believe that this is because of the structured aftercare program.
First impression was that he cared and knew what he was talking about. He was older and had done many surgeries before he got into bariatrics. I still feel that he is a good surgeon but since my post op visits, I feel that he just doesn't have the time for me and feels that all my questions and concerns are old hat and really doesn't listen to me.
Him and his group stress post-op care very hard before surgery, but after surgery you are ushered in and out of the office and they never really check to see if you are doing what they suggested.
my first impression of dr nighbert was a man that was relaxed and confident in his work.he was great with all of my concerns and the followups have been great they always have time for me after the fact they explaine all of the ups and downs of the surgery and the after effects.the staff is very personable and knowledgeable and after care has been great.i would recomend them to anyone and would go back to them for the same surgery again if it was needed
