Schumacher MD FACS. I wont lie I was VERY nervous about seeing him today. But his office was very nice. They made me feel as though I have known them for years. They also have a large board with before and after pictures that you can see. Which was really nice. I liked that part alot!rnrnWhen I 1st walked in there I was looking at his nurses and most of them weighed maybe 120 all of them very pretty (nothing against skinny people don't take offence) so I was a lil taken back and I was worried as to what they was thinking? Would they understand the things I go through? But they was the nicest people I have ever met. All of his staff was great A+rnrn
<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">
rnrnI got to talk to Dr. Schumacher PA 1st Jerrod He was very nice he sat me down and we talked about things he spent about one hour with me (Dr. Schumacher was called out due to an emergency) But his PA stayed with me until Dr. Schumacher got back and as soon as he got there he came in and said how sorry he was that I had to wait. He spent about another hour with me and went over everything with me also he answered all my questions and told me that if I had any question to call him at any point and he would be glad to sit down with again and talk about it. I really liked him he was straight forward about things. He told you like it was but in a very nice way he didn't make me feel bad, he didn't make me feel ashamed of being over weight. He asked a lot of questions and I liked that most he seemed to be interested in me. He didn't look at me like I was just a pile of money that he was gonna get. I went in with my mind set knowing that I was gonna get the lap band. I think that health risk wise its a better choice. Dr. Schumacher stated that he does not think that the lap band will give me the out come I am looking for he is wanting me to have the Gastric Bypass Sleeve done. He gave me a lot of information about it.rnrn
<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">
rnrnrnONE BIG PLUS TO DR. SCHUMACHER is that he is going all over the states teaching other doctors about this surgery and is writing a medical book about it through the medical board. They have asked him to. As of right now there is about 20 doctors WORLD WIDE that is doing this operation. So this makes me feel more comfortable with him doing this kind of operation since he has all this knowledge.rnrn
<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">
rnrnAbout his after care. He stated that if I have this operation. He will see me 1 week after the surgery (but he will see me the 2 days I'm in the hospital so really its 5 days). Then after that he will see me 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year for follow up care. He stated that if I feel like I need to be seen before then, Then all I need to do is call his office and they can get me in. The hospital that he does the surgery in is right next door to his office so he can be there in a moments notice.rnrn<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">rnrn<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">rnrn<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">rnrn<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">rnrn
<ahref=\"\" target=\"_blank\">

Dr Schumacher is a wonderful surgeon. He is very upbeat and really seems to care about your success and how things are going. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon and his entire staff were just fabulous.rnrnThe other doctors in the office are also just wonderful people. I felt so cared for and it gave me a lot of confidence in a successful outcome.
My frist impression was great and it did not change over time. The office staff was the best. I can't think of a thing I didn't like.The aftercare is awesome. And yes he has an awesome aftercare program. The risk and anything that could happen with surgery was explained to me in full detail. From 1-10 I rate him and his office a 10. And for the last question the were both great. He is very busy and I don't know how anyone else feels about him but to me I could't have been in better hands. And my husband also agrees.
When I first met Dr. Schumacher, I thought that he was nice. He took the time to talk to me and my husband and ask any questions that we had. Then I fell in love with him, Cause after examining me, he told me that I could have a waist (and probably would) Then he asked me what weight I wanted to get down to...when i told him that i would be happy with 150, he said \"oh no you shouldn't have a problem getting down to 130\". So naturally He is my new best friend. At the same time made sure to tell me about all of the risks and possible complications involved with WLS. rnrnThen when I saw him for my pre-op visit, He was great, He was running behind,(had an emergency) But still took the time to sit there with me and answering my last min questions. rnrnI also have to say that his office staff is great, I have called them a thousand times and they don't lose their patients with me and always answer my questions.rnrnSo far I would have to give Dr. Schumacher and his staff a ~9~ they have been great, but noone is \"perfect\"rnrnUPDATE: Well it's been almost 5 years! I am still doing great! NO REGRETS!!!!!! I wish everyone out there the best and I Thank Dr. Schumacher again for saving my life and making me feel good about myself.
I had heard nothing but great things about him and my first appointment with him didn't disappoint me. Dr. Schumacher is AWESOME!!!!!!!! During my first appointment I had a list of questions a mile long and he acted as if I was the only one in his office. He totally took his time with me and really cared about me. rnrnHe visited me in the hospital at least 3 times a day. I was very impressed with the follow-up he did with me. rnrnDr. Schumacher and his staff are the best around.
My first impression of Dr. Schumacher was that he was very caring. He was patient, listened to and answered all my questions. Another thing that impressed me was he actually took time to examine me on my first visit. (I had been to another consult and the doctor just talked, no examination, nothing.)rnrnWhile he personally recommended the RNY for me, he did leave the final decision up to me as to the type of surgery I wanted. He explained each of surgeries and told me to think about it. rnrnHe emphasized aftercare in his discussion and he does have a structured program. rnrnHis office staff is very helpful and always takes the time to answer my questions.rnrnI can't tell you much more about him at this time as I've only met with him once, one on one and attended one of his seminars.rnrnSo far, though, so good.
I had the Lap Roux en Y with Dr. Schumacher on 3/22/06 at Sycamore Hospital. Dr. Schumacher is fantastic! I would recommend them in a heartbeat. The process was very prompt and thorough. The staff at Kettering Bariatrics has been extremely responsive to my special needs. They were also patient and helpful answering all of my questions and I truly appreciate that.
You should be prepared to attend several classes and evaluations sessions as Dr. Schumacher stresses pre-education and aftercare. He is very understanding, compassionate, and knowledgeable. The surgical PA Jarrod is also extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and respectful.
You will be thoroughly educated regarding what to expect going through the entire process which is great. The variety of risks involved with surgery are explained, and part of this is knowing how to recognize if there might be a really significant problem after surgery and when to call the doctor and what to do. This aspect of the education is very helpful. I felt very well prepared going into surgery and going home.
I have been researching WLS surgery for a very long time. After much review, I decided on a surgeon. Unfortunately Dr. Schumacher was not one that I had originally met. After many let downs from my first choice surgeons office staff, I luckily stumbled across Dr. Schumacher and staff because one of my post op appointments was scheduled at his office. WOW, what a difference. I instantly knew I had made the wrong desision. I did switch my paperwork to Dr. Schumacher. I feel so comfortable with him and his staff. They are very organized and they treat me so good. I don't know when my surgery will be, I am still awaiting the approval. It's getting a little discouraging waiting, I feel my whole life is on hold and going know where. I just know when I finally recieve the call from Dr. Schumacher or probably Susie my whole new life will begin. What a better group of people to deliver the news to me. I look forward to working with them all. I pray every day I will be recieving the news.
