Since there were TV cameras on him during our initial meeting, I can't be absolutely positive he would be any different if there weren't. However, my guess would be, he might have only been less chatty. But my impression is he would be relatively the same. Matter of fact, professional, assertive that this was the last resort and if I didn't like the surgery after the fact, there was no turning back (unless if was for medical reasons.) He wanted, I'm sure, to reaffirm my intentions since this was a serious commitment to making a life-altering procedure. He certainly recommended his Tuesday night pre and post-surgurical groups and interestingly, I've met several in the normal course of my business who are already attending. It's like a family of supporters who embrace you and there's no doubt in my mind, this is crucial. He emphasized several times that obesity was a DISEASE which gave me the relief that I wasn't a bad girl or out-of-control as the general public believes. I suffer all kinds of additional problems as a result of my obesity, as anorexics, alcoholics, or diabetics suffer extraenous ailments as a result of their addiction. My cardiologist also gave me the go ahead since I suffer from congestive heart failure and told me as long as a cardiologist would be in attendance, I would come through will flying colors. The actual surgery scares me almost as much as the new lifestyle. Dr. Provost teaches other doctors the laproscopic method of gastric bypass surgery and has proformed over 500 surgeries, about half the old way and half the new way. He also told me he has another doctor/partner in the operating room, too.
The office structure is very organized and David first hounded the insurance company (as I did, too) since I wanted this so bad; secondly, Lois was great in scheduling the pre-opt appointment. I'll let you how that comes out next week which will give me a chance to really get to see his bedside manner. His offices are at the Zale Lipshy Medical Center which has valet parking, making the getting in and out of the center easy.
My first impression is that he is a no nonsence type of person and even in the most serious of circumstances, I need a little levity! I was a little put off by this at first, but it got better as we talked. I was impressed with his knowledge and his track record. As far as the office staff, they're great!
I like to feel close to someone and he does not lend himself to allow a person to feel that comfortable.
I'll need to update later. Right now I would be talking out of school if I went any further with my opinion about him and the after care provided. I know he does have a structured plan, I just have not seen it yet. We'll get more into that at my next visit to the clinic.
He was direct and forthcoming with the risks and the seriousness of the surgery.
I researched this doctor alot before I made my choice. His bedside manner may be laking, but in the operating room and afterwards is what really counts, so for me , he's the one.
Dr. David Provost will be my surgeon. He is a personal friend from my church. He has done over 400 surgeries and is very well liked and respected by those who have had this surgery. I trust him fully. I was nervous when I went for the consultation. That was the first time I'd seen him professionally. I had to give him all the dirt....my weight. I part with that information like Zsa Zsa Gabor parts with her age. LOL! There's nothing I don't like about Dr. Dave. He's a good guy. He didn't beat around the bush about anything and he didn't try to make the picture look rosy. That was the first time I can remember being scared of the stark reality of the complications. It's a difficult surgery to bounce back from. I'm still willing to do this aside from the risks, because the long term benefits of this have got to be better than what I'm facing if I remain morbidly obese. There is an aftercare program and he highly suggests that I attend a group meeting before the surgery as well as continuing to go afterwards. They meet once a month.
I had a really good feeling about Dr. Leverton at the time I met her. The only thing that I was a little discouraged about was that the hospital was not equiped to handle severe emergency during surgery so you would have to be transferred to another hospital in or around Dallas. Other than that I think she was very informative about the surgery. As of May I had to change doctors because my insurance would only pay 70% of the bill because Dr. Leverton would be out of network on my plan. I have an appointment to see Dr. Provost at Zale Lipshy. I am really excited because I have heard great things about him. I will update later. Please say a little prayer for me. My appointment date is coming up soon. 6/30/01 My surgery date has been scheduled for July 16. I am so excited and I anxiously await to start my new life! I cannot say enough about Lois and Dr. Provost. The entire office staff was very informative and held back nothing concerning the surgerical procedure and the aftercare. I feel truly blessed to have Dr. Provost as my surgeon.
My surgeon is Dr.Provost in Dallas Tx.
My first meeting with him and his
staff was on 5/17/01. After 7 months of
waiting it was well worth it. Dr. Provost
seeme very intrested with my questions and
my concerns. Lois is awesome!! David (ins Man) was also very informative. He was very direct and was very upfront about surgery
complictions and after care. I will fill you
in when i am on the otherside.
My first impression was he was very professional, with kind eyes.........very caring, soft spoken, very imformative.Explains everything in easy terms.Very concerned with all my other health problems. His staff was great,it was as though i had been there before, everyone very welcoming.I felt very calm in his office with him and his staff.
His office staff are terrific. David, the insurance coordinator, actually remembers
my name when I call him. He is really helpful. Dr. Provost was quick but informative and to the point. I never felt rushed. The only draw back has been the time its taken to get in to see him. Made the appt. in November had to wait until April 26 for my consult.
1/15/01 - Called to schedule my consultation and was told the first available date is 8/9/01. Now I have to decide if Dr. Provost is worth the wait.
1/22/01 - After much research, I've decided that I will wait for Dr. Provost. His office staff was very nice and I have already received the packet they promised. Hopefully, he will be able to perform the surgery laproscopically.
5/16/01 - I was very pleased with Dr. Provost and his office staff. They were prompt and attentive and I would recommend them to anyone seeking WLS. He covered all aspects of the surgery, including risks.
