I feel Dr. Stewart is a very fine surgeon. His front desk person, Leah, is very UNhelpful. At times I even felt she was trying to sabatage my efforts. However, the rest of his staff was very kind and helpful.

Dr. Stewart has been a wonderful surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone wanting weight loss surgery but especially the DS. He is such a skilled surgeon. I was in and out of surgery in just over 2 hours, off pain medications before leaving the hospital and recovering easily! Thus far I have had no complications whatsoever and have been very pain-free throughout the whole process. I was in pain initially after surgery but the facility I was at was very good at pain & nausea management. Being on this site you get to hear the experiences of lots of other DS'ers and I can honestly say that I'm thankful to have found Dr. Stewart and his staff. They have been very accomodating and I have learned a lot through both OH and through his office.

Dr. Stewart is a wonderfully smart surgeon. He's very much into performing the DS and is an advocate for those who've had the surgery or would like to have revisions.

The office staff was very friendly and helpful. They are very hard to get in touch with and that's been my only complaint thus far.

Dr. Stewart seems very pro-education. You have classes to attend both before and after surgery. He's also very good about listening to his patients' opinions. He's very upfront and honest when it comes to talking about risks and complications and will let you know his percentages in those areas. Most other surgeons would skirt that topic!

I can't yet speak for his bedside manner but I'd rather have smart and skilled and just plain ole upfront than someone who sugar-coats things!

I'm glad I found him and have this website to thank for that!

First surgery was a RNY done in December 2001. I lost 160 lbs and then regained 60 over the next 8 years, but did keep off 100 which was good. I never reached my goal which deep down always bothered me.

Last year I started to research revision surgeries and then when I found out I was going to have to have an open hernia repair, I seriously pursued a revision. I had my first appt. with Dr. Stewart in January and loved him from the start. Very straight forward but I could tell had a kind heart. I was approved right after I completed the 3 month program with him and my RNY to DS surgery was on May 3, 2010.

I am not out 8 months and down 98 lbs. I feel great! I had some real minor issues about the third month or so but they went away. My 6 month blood work showed all my levels where they were supposed to be but a little low in iron. I was thrilled! Will post again soon!

I was a self pay patient, and with costs for a DS in NYC being in the $50,000+ range I had to look outside of the city to find a surgeon and medical facility. I did a lot of homework picking Dr. Stewart as my surgeon and I have no regrets. While I'm only a week out from my surgery upon writing this, I have had no complications whatsoever, and the recovery process is flying by very quickly. He was patient and answered every question I had as we discussed risks, the different types of surgery and other concerns. Under Dr. Stewart's direction his staff teaches proper nutrition for the DS and dispels any myths about what you should and shouldn't eat. Dr. Stewart's practice is also very well structured for aftercare and nutrition, and encourages follow ups and support group meetings to help his patients post-op. His staff is extremely nice and helpful. Five stars, A++.

#1: I had to pay for consultation. This was before I could get even the most basic of answers--like total cost. Additionally, the other surgeon I saw did not charge for a consult.

#2: I came from out of state for my consultation and we waited 1 1/2 hours. Not happy with that.

#3: Dr. Stewart was warm and knowledgeable.

#4: Had to pay for ugi and bloodwork.

#5: When it came time to schedule, I was going to have to wait a while and have it separately from my sister. Leah talked to Dr. Stewart and he agreed to add another surgery on the same date as my sister's--a whole month earlier!

#6: Surgery went very well.

#7: I had made it very clear from the beginning that I was out of state and may be unable to schedule follow-up visits. So when I called to get more information about what I should be doing, the response was "well you need to come to your post-op." I explained that was impossible and still got very little information. So I guess I'm on my own from here on out.

#8: 2 weeks after surgery I receive a bill for about $500 from the day of surgery. We have paid everything--they did nothing "weird" in surgery. We paid Dr. Stewart and the hospital in full which was supposed to cover every normal event. Come to find out it's for pathology and something else--which is required. So why wasn't this tallied with the bill?

BOTTOM LINE: 10 months out I can tell you that Dr. Stewart is a tremendous surgeon. However, do be aware of the hoops you need to jump through and be your own advocate because the office staff doesn't help much. Also, know that there are some "hidden" costs so be prepared for that. I believe Dr. Stewart did a great job, I had a very easy recovery, and at 10 months out I'm very happy.

I had my VSG with Doctor stewart on 4/28 He is a very skilled surgeon and does a wonderful job. The office has a great follow-up and education program making sure you are ready before and after surgery. When choosing a surgeon I wanted a very skilled one--Since Dr. Stewart is one who performs the most difficult bariatric surgery on a regular basis (laproscopic Duodenal Switch) I knew the VSG would be no issue for him. His self pay option was very competitive in the DFW area so it was a no-brainer to pick the most skilled at the same rate.

Dr Stewart was a great doctor and surgeron he took the time to inform me of the risks and what to expect in and out of the hospital, i enjoy the classes we have attended and would recomend him and his staff to most all. Sue is a great NP of his too she taught the 3wk post op class and was very informative on what to eat and how to eat it and to keep your mind in a good place. i thank yall very much for the guidence and life long tool you have provided for me!

Dr. Stewart is a very quiet man. He is kind and helpful. Willing to take time to talk if you have any questions. I love the office staff. They are all so friendly and always have a smile on their face when you visit. They are all very professional. rnrnDr. Stewart and his staff have an excellent program. Their after care program is terrific. There are many opportunities to get any information you may need. Either through their classes or using their support class they have every month.rnrnI would definitely recommend Dr. Stewart and his staff.

I decided to use Dr. Stewart as my surgeon to have the Duodenal Switch after I was already scheduled to have an RNY with another local surgeon. I am so glad that I switched instead of settled. Dr. Stewart had test run that the previous surgeon had not and found some additional issues that were taken care of at the time of my DS. Dr.Stewart is direct and honest and I really appreciate that in a doctor. I dont need hand holding but I need skill and knowledge of which he has plenty and he does answer any questions you may have. I liked how he was unbiased about every surgery and gave the straight facts about risk and rewards of each and lets the patients choose what is right for them. I am THRILLED with my DS and my results so far. I would have never been able to do this without Dr. Stewart and my DS and I am very thankful! I would rate Dr.Stewart as an excellent surgeon! I believe that surgical competence is vastly more important than a rainbow bedside manner. After all at the end of the day I dont need an imaginary pot of gold but what I need is success. Dr. Stewart has that... an excellent record of success.
