My surgery was on January 10th and it went smoothly. My impression of Dr. Bollman hasnt changed a bit. He was so kind and caring to me while I was in the hospital. He visited me every day to see how I was doing and was extremely reassuring to both me and my mom about my progress. He strongly emphasized what my aftercare would need to be and answered all of my questions. I would definitly choose him if I had to ever have surgery again.
I can't say enough about Dr. Bollman and his nurse Eileen. He was so patient and answered my question. He was very through as was Eileen in answering my questions. He is very soft spoken but that only enhanced my sense that he truely cares for his patients.
He discussed everything that I would need to know although I had already done so much research that my questions were mostly answered before I went in. Eileen his nurse was just the best. She was so helpful and kind getting me set up with things. The program is through LivLite and along with Dr. Bollman have a strong aftercare program with support groups, regular follow up appointments and even his home phone number. At the end of the consult he turned to me and smiled then said "We will take good care of you." I have absolutely no doubts that that is true.
Personable- Knowledgable- didn't talk "above" me- explained procedure in detail- answered my questions promptly.Though I was nervous at first meeting a physician not on staff where I am employed, he quickly put my fears to erst , the first support group meeting I went to in May 04.
Every staff person involved with the Liv- Lite program through Geary Community Hospital, has been of great help, relieving my fears and anxieties. His office nurse Eileen, very pleasant and likeable. She didn't have a condescending attitude like many nurses do when dealing with overweight people.
Aftercare is stressed during all support group meetings, and was discussed at length during my first office visit with Dr. Bollman & Eileen.Foolow-up appointments were emphasized as to the importance of keeping and maintaining these appts. to ensure correct weight loss & maintenance of lab values.
Surgical risks were explained with the first office visit, and post-op needs addressed and re-emphasized ( importance of exercise, diet, pouch rules, etc).
I would recommend Dr. Bollman, his staff, the staff of Liv- Lite & Geary Community Hospital highly.
One of the first questions I had for Dr. Bollman and his partner ( who happens to be his son-in-law) at a support group meeting, was what the success to death ratio had been, and of the over 400+ surgeries done at that time, there had only been one death, which came 3 weeks post-op and they felt that person had had a blood clot. Both Dr's are available, they don't take off at the same time, they assist each other with surgeries, and the infection rate is zero!!!
So all in all, they are a great combo, having both the surgical competency & the good bedside manner.
He was great. A very caring man. My impression has only grown and his office staff is wonderful, esp. his nurse, Eileen.
Very soft spoken and gentle man. I cant think of a single thing to dislike about him. Future pts should know that he is not at all judgemental, and genuinely cares about all of his pts. He attends all support group meetings and is ready and willing to answer all questions. He is so knowledgeable about what needs to be done and stresses the pouch rules and activities post-op. He sees his pts in the hosp. every day post-op while still in the hosp. and 2 wks after going home in his office then every 3 months for at least the first yr. He has support meetings once a month. He also gives you his home phone number and stresses that he REALLY wants you to call him with any problems. He very forthrightly gave all the risks of the surgery and answered any of my questions before the surgery. I would rate him overall as the greatest of the great. His surgical competence is the greatest, but his bedside manner is a little stiff, altho still caring. These are all my own personal views.
My first impression of Dr. Bollman was that he is a mature responsible doctor. This impression has lasted throughout our dr/patient time together! I honestly can't think of a thing I don't like about him. If you use Dr. Bollman you should know that he is a very thoughtful and caring Doctor. Aftercare is a big issue with this doctor. There is a structured after care program consisting of monthly group meetings. I would rate him as a 10! His surgical expertise and bedside manner are both excellent! I would recommend this surgeon to anyone thinking of having this surgery!
I was very impressd with him. I went in well prepared with very few questions (I had asked them earlier from Patti and other I knew that had the surgery)He did not talk down to me and seemed to understand that I knew what I was doing and was prepared and educated on the subject. I also like the fact that even with Dr Bollman his co-doctor and him preform as eachothers assistant so you are actually getting two surgeons at once. He mentioned the good, bad and the ugly during my appointment. He discussed the fact that support grounp in available and recommended (Which I will attend both pre and post)I would recommend him to everyone @ this point....
My surgery was on 12/22/03 by Dr. Bollman...nicest Dr. I have ever dealt with. This Dr. does not try and sugar coat anything...the first meeting I had with him he explained everything in a very easy going and calm matter, he even drew out a diagram of what he would do to me...something I can keep forever. This Guy never seems hurried unlike most surgeons.... Very impressed with everything about him. He really knows what he is doing when it comes to weight loss surgery. I would recommend him to everyone..for that matter if I ever required any other surgery I would drive 4 1/2 hours to have Dr. Bollman do the surgery. Dr. Bollmans nurse is sooooo very interested in the person...she really cares about the well-being and does not FORGET to do follow-ups with you, I know for a fact because she called and checked on me many times after my surgery. She never seemed rushed or to busy to answer any questions I had for her. Another thing that really impressed me was the fact that she always came to the phone when I called and had a question. Most nurses call back a couple weeks later..after the problem has been resolved. My overall surgery was completed without any PROBLEMS..and very well done, thanks to the Dr. and staff in Junction City. Everyone that worked with me during my surgery process gets rated a perfect score..serious!!!!!
I have just submitted all my paperwork this past week. I have not actually met the surgeons in person yet, but have not heard one bad thing about him. Dr. Bollman's office staff is so friendly and have spoken with me practically everday for the past week. They answer all the questions that I have! Very nice...
January 16, 2004 - I met my surgeons on Tuesday, January 13. They are simply amazing. I went to my first support group meeting and there were so many people that were very supportive there. I have been contemplating in between using doctors in Topeka and Junction City. I have come to decide to use the docs in JC. I have filed all my paperwork and I am still waiting to hear from the insurance company on their decision. I called the Insurance Company today and they said they have not received the claim forms from JC, hopefully they will get them soon! I look forward in getting the process rolling. I have my psych evaluation on Friday, January 16, 2004.
My first impression of him was that he was very detailed about the hole thing. His office staff was all very helpful and kind. They talk to you in length how this is a tool to help you loose weight but its still up to you. They explained the dietary changes very well. I was very comforted on how they take care of you before surgery and there planned after care surgery. I live five hours away and I half to make three trips before surgery and three trips after surgery I really dont like that. He is not very talkitive fellow though he seems very competent in explaining everything. I went in for my preop and the more I meet him the more he gives me confidence in him.
