Dr. Callery is truely a gem of a doctor. The entire staff is caring and thoughtful and take a genuine interest in each and every patient. Dr. Callery has several different levels of support groups so that those seeking the surgery as well as those who have had it can talk and help each other, as well as other groups for "just out" folks. I have never hesitated to call the office with any question or problem and know that the person who answers the phone really knows who i am and my history without having to even get my chart to remember who i am.
I felt that this doctor had an extremely informative Q & A session that is required to begin the journey. It was an elaborate explaination of of the prodecure and the after effects.... the good AND the bad.

Dr Callery is very straight up about the surgery. He'll tell you how it has worked for patients and how the surgery has in some cases not worked for patients. He didn't blow smoke about how easy life would be after surgery. His staff reflects the same attitude and mindset. That level of candor is not everybody's cup of tea, but it works for me. I'll meet with him soon after the insurance gives its approval and I'll add more.

Dr. Callery is wonderful...very committed to his patients. His office is extremely busy and his days are long and hard, but he always seems to have time to patiently answer questions and discuss wls. His face was the first I saw in the mornings waking up in the hospital at 7:00 a.m. and his support meetings go late into the evenings. His staff has to scramble to keep up with him. I have recommended Dr. Callery to many others, including my own brother, and will continue to do so.

excellent physician - very caring has a great NP (Kelly) that works with him - the office is getting busier so a small amount of the personal touch is beginning to disappear

expect lots of educational material

classes, support groups, dietician services available

surgical competence is always more important but I am fortunate to have found both

Pre-Op: 304 lbs
Post-Op: 197 lbs (lost 107 lbs in 6 months)

My first impression of Dr. Callery is that he is a kind and efficient surgeon.

His staff is very courteous and also very efficient.

They emphasize aftercare with meetings, but if you don't wish to attend their support meetings, I feel they should at least check on your progress. I felt "forgotten" after the procedure.

His bedside manner was upsetting. I was in a lot of pain and felt I needed one more day in the hospital. I cried. He said to me, "I will come back when the waterworks are done". That was devastating and hurtful and wrong. I do not think it was "wrong" of me to cry....I was frightened to go home feeling so terribly and was still on strong painkillers; I felt very scared. Again, he is a wonderful surgeon and efficient, but after the surgery, if you cry, he will treat you like a child and has NO sympathy for tears; so DON'T CRY. Dr. Callery is an excellent and efficient surgeon.

I would prefer surgical competence to bedside manner, so all in all, I am happy that I had this surgery. It was successful for me and the best decision I have ever made.

I attended the Orientation Class on 3/7/01. Dr. Callery was very informative and seems to be very "real". So far, I'm very impressed.

Attended Consultation on 4/24/01. Didn't see Dr. Callery himself. Met with Kelly the RN. She was very nice, but I would have liked to actually talk to the Doctor also. Luckily, my best friend used Dr. C and I have met a lot of people who have used him, or I'd be a little worried right now.

Dr. Callery is the most wonderful person, Doctor and surgeon I've ever had the privilage of meeting. He is caring, concerned and G-D gave him hands of skilled excellance. His staff is the best and they are as caring as he is. The hospital he uses is Pomerado, and the staff on his floor is well trained.
Dr. Callery is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. saved my life because of his skill and manner.

Dr. Callery's educational seminar is wonderful. It really helped to put my husband at ease & to answer all my questions. So far, his staff has been very supportive & friendly.

Dr. Callery has always from the first time I met him impressed me as being one of the most concerned, caring MD's I have ever had.Pre-op as well as Post-op. The staff are extremeely busy and working as hard as they can to bring this fantastic tool to as many patients as fast as possible. Most of us that make the decision to have the surgical proceedure are very impatient. Dr. Callery's program looks at all aspects of the surgery. the dietary, the psychological and physical effects and that knowledge is passed on to his patients by the support groups, message boards and office.
Dr. Callery gets a 10 in my book.

I like Dr Callery. He is personable, approachable, caring, pleasant, professional and very skilled. His staff is equally caring and professional.

He emphasizes aftercare and offers a program of monthly support group meetings, also offers a website and egroup for his patients to stay connected and network with each other for support. I would rate him an A+++ (or a 10 or whatever is the rating system!)

I feel that surgical competence is crucial, bedside manner is nice. Dr. Callery possesses both.

I really don't have anything negative to say, I am a completely satisfied customer (1 month post-op).
