He seemed very nice and honest. My impression of him never changed. He is very caring and personable. Lauree and Marte are fabulous, whatever he pays them it's not enough. They are friendly and supportive. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have it any other way. They offer wonderfull support between group meetings and their web site. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are wonderfull. I give Dr. Callery and staff a standing ovation.

Dr. Callery is the GREATEST! Not only are his skills as a surgeon first rate, he has a fantastic bedside manner too. Though some might think it's cruel that he makes a patient with staples in their gut laugh! His office staff (Marte, Lori and Kelli) are very caring and knowledgable and the support group meetings are great.

I have not met Dr Rumsey yet, but I here wonderfull things about him my pre op visit is scheduled for 4-17-00. At pacific bariatric in san diego. Well update BIG CHANGE-I am now under the care of Dr Charles Callery-in Poway Calif I was referred to him by someone in this web site-THANK YOU. Pacific Baratric Just seems to "out of reach"you are part of "the System" not an individual, I have had quite the opposite feeling with Dr Callery and his wonderful staff. My surgery date with Pacific Bariatric would have been"sometime in June" I have had authorization and all pre op testing done since march and thought I would have plenty of time to have surgery and be totally recovered for the trip to Hawaii we have planned in July, so I was very upset when I found out that surgery was not until June, Pacific Bariatrics responce was for me to postpone surgery until after Hawaii, this was not an option for me. So I contacted Dr Callery and in a very short time I had a surgery date-4-19-00! Plenty of time for me to have surgery and be recovered for Hawaii, THANK YOU Dr Callery and Marte! I will update after surgery.
4-25-00 I have had my surgery, everything went very well, no complications my incision is healing very well, Dr Callery did a great job. The hospital stay was nice at pomerado hosp in poway calif, all of the rooms are private and your signifigant other is welcome (encouraged really) to stay with you. THe nurses were all very kind and did a good job. I met several of Dr Callery's patients their we all were in the same hosp wing and met doing "laps" around the nurses station, On scale of 1-10 I give Dr Callery and his program a 10+++.

Dr. Callery and his staff have been very nice, very supportive. His classes are great...he cares about what happens to you after surgery. I cant wait to be "on the other side"!

Dr. Callery and his staff are great. He has a pre-surgery information session as well as an excellent aftercare program. His aftercare program (in addition to follow-up visits)consists of a monthly support group for recent surgery patients and a monthly support group for all surgery patients and friends/significant others.

I first visited the doctors that did Carnie Wilson's sx to learn all about this procedure; then learned they were not contracted with any insurance groups. I investigated other doctors thru this web site and decided to give Dr. Callery a spin. He seems to be very comfortable with what he does which is a definite plus; he's been doing it for years. For every surgery, he requests several tests-blood, sleep study, gall bladder ultrasound and in my case a throat endoscopy (I have acid reflux). I was expecting that the request from insurance would be filed once these tests were completed, but the staff submitted them before the sleep study. To my surprise and delight, the procedure was approved. I am slighty below the standard for this test (5'4 and less than 200 pounds). The surgery has been scheduled for 3/29. My husband and I will meet w/Dr. Callery prior to that to discuss any questions. I feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon; I've never been in the hospital and he has treated me with "kid gloves". Go see him!! I have sent at least 10 faxes to his office and they have all been answered effeciently and w/o disdain.

Dr. Callery seems to be very knowledgeable of bariatric surgery. He has a great bedside manner (great sense of humor) and will answer ANY question you may have. The office staff is friendly and helpful and make you feel comfortable right away. They are on top of things at all times.

Dr. Callery and his staff are WONDERFUL! I especially appreciate the support groups they offer.

So far so good. Dr. Callery and his staff have been very courteous and helpful. They appear very detailed in the information provided about the surgery, risks, complications, benefits, etc. They have support groups available and for a $10 fee per class they have a nutrition support group with a registered dietitian. His web site is good: thinnertimes.com

These are my own personal comments at the
present time:

Well, I met with Dr. Callery along with my
husband and he is really nice and very easy
to talk to. He explains thing very well to
make sure that I knew what the WLS ( Rou n Y)
entails. what the post-op time will be like
at the beginning and as time progresses.

His office and staff, Marte & Laurie, are
really sweet and care what is going on for
each of his patients.

Well, I guess future patients should know
that he is very specialized in doing the
Open Rou-n-Y gastric bypass.

He addressed the risks of surgery in his
Information Lecture that he holds once a
month at his office.

I would rate him overall as one of the
kindest, caring doctor I have ever come
across so far.

I can not tell you yet which is better, his
surgical compentence, bedside manner, or both
as I haven't had my surgery yet. But I'll
get back to you on this once I am Post-Op.
