Charles A. Svendsen Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
He is very plesant, and the staff is wonderful. I didn't have too many questions for him, because I have studied this surgery for so long. You do not get to see the surgeon as much as you would think, especially if you don't have any questions. Barb is wonderful nurse and easy to get a hold of for any questions, they give you a ton of written information for before and after the surgery, and the risk are thouroughly explained. The only thing I wish is that you could see the Dr. a little more often, but I do understand that he is probably very busy with several pts.
I loved my surgeon. He was super nice and very thorough. I didn't feel intimidated by him and felt he was really there to help me. My nurse, Barb, was awesome! That is who you really get to know is your nurse. She was witty and had had weight loss surgery herself, so she knew what I was going through. I never felt judged - just supported. What a great experience- life changing!!
I really like Dr. Svendsen. He is very straight forward which is what I need. My only negative comment is that you really do not work with Dr. S but with his Nurse Clinican, Barb. The focus on this PNMC program is total care from beginning to end. They walk you through the process and make very sure you are aware this is not a magic bullet. You are told up front that you will need follow up care for AT LEAST 1 year. They are very straight forward on the risks and try to get you to tap into the support groups. I have been really pleased with my results.
My first meeting with Dr. Svendsen was great. At my surgeon's appointment he made me feel comfortable and took the time to answer all of my questions. He went over all the risks and made sure that I was well-informed. The day of surgery he stopped by to see if I had any questions. He really does have a calming presence about him.
Dr. Svendsen walked into the exam room today with his hand extended and said \"Hi, I'm Chuck\" with the warmest smile on his face. I found him to be very straight forward and full of information. He answered all my questions completely. His nurse Barb is wonderful. Not a typical no nonsense type medical professional. You can tell she loves what she does and is fun to be around. He put a lot of emphasis on the after care program and the help it provides his patients.
I was very impressed with Dr Svendsen. My first impression was what a nice, down to earth guy he is. He is so easy to talk to, he made me feel very comfortable and confident. And his staff really went above and beyond for me. The entire team is very professional and thorough but at the same time they are very friendly and make you feel relaxed. They walked me through everything and answered all of my questions, most of my questions they answered before I even asked them. Barb is terrific and Jennifer is so helpful and efficient as is Georgeanne and the whole staff. I would highly recommend Dr Svendsen to anyone considering bariatric surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Svendsen was that he was going to be a great guy. His nurse Barb Johnson is just a hoot and very supportive for the journey towards surgery. She tells you like it is, without any sugar coating. Aftercare at Park Nicollet/Methodist Hospital is always pushed. I think it is really important, I'm always coming up with new questions. Barb will supply her personal office phone number to you, in case any questions or problems arise. Dr. Svendsen was very clear on the risks of the surgery. He was just as clear with the risks as the benefits. Both Dr. Svendsen and Barb were very supportive and informative with my husband who was still not sold on the surgery idea. They understood his take on the surgery and supported his ideas. Once my husband better supported the surgery, they were very good in answering any questions he had. I think the team is what really sold him. Dr. Svendsen's bedside manner and surgical competence were both excellent. He notified my husband right after surgery that I was doing well and it was a text book surgery. He kept my normally nervous husband at ease and informed, which was very much appreciated.
I visited (4) programs in the twin cities before I chose the PNC/Methodist program, and I am so glad that I did! I don't think I would have been comfortable with anyone other than Dr. Svendsen performing my surgery. I was completely at ease with him, and his whole staff. I believe him to be extremely skilled at laparoscopic surgery, and he has a kind and gentle manner about him that alleviated my fears. On the day of my surgery, my family was also very impressed with him and the time he spent with them explaining my surgery and my post-op lifestyle...and that meant so much to me! It has been said before, but his nurse Barb is the best! The PNC program is very comprehensive and has great pre and post op care...I just cant say enough about how happy I am with the choice of program/surgeon I made!
